Don't know if you know this yet, but the song of time blocks are quite interesting. All of these maps exist in both the child and adult versions (though many are unreachable as a child). When you play the song of time to a song of time block, you aren't actually getting rid of it, you are actually moving it to the other timeline, from adult to child, or child to adult. This isn't actually important to the main game, besides being cool in game lore, but in some modded versions of the game, that mechanic is quite useful.

I watched the stream and here I am, so you can see my answer to your question about comparing this temple to the N64 version. 1. The places where you raise the water were not colour coded, you just had to remember where to go. 2. The boots were part of your equipment screen so you would have to pause to unequip/equip them every time you wanted to sink/surface. 3. The camera does not pan to that hidden room inside the center pillar. 4. The crystal you hit to gain the skulltula on the floor level was hidden behind the gate, where you would have to use a bomb/power sword attack to hit it. PS that Dark Link edit was fantastic. That intense music brought me such joy.

@@geschnitztekiste4111 It doesn't have those glowing lines on the wall, which lead you to each of the water level "switches". They also added this little cutscene at 25:32 to show that hole (it's easily missable and leads to a key, so it's also necessary). There's also a quality of life change that just makes the temple far less annoying. That being, the iron boots are an item now. Originally it was equipment that you had to _pause the game_ _every time_ you wanted to equip and un-equip them. The game itself also had a lower framerate, so, as if moving through water wasn't already a slow process, the low fps made things take that much longer. So y'know, exploring it was really tedious and slightly harder to navigate.

@thajocoth3 жыл бұрын
In the original version of the game, the Water Temple had a lot more tedium to it because you had to open your inventory every time you wanted to change your boots. If the water level changing spots were replaced with switches instead, then all the tedium would be removed. This tedium is why people have so much trouble with what is otherwise, in my opinion, one of the best designed dungeons of this game.

Just the fact that this version puts focus on the hole/path when you raise the water level to 2, makes it soooooo much more playable. Absolute respect for doing the water temple twice! As someone who played it on the N64 first time round and who’s aware that it’s easier on the 3DS, it’s still a pita to complete. The constant back and forth requirements just make it a chore - when you know where you’re going! Kudos for the Dark Link replay. I loved that aspect, even though I certainly did not beat him on my “first try” all those years ago

Yeah, they streamlined the 3DS remaster with a bunch of useful stuff to make the Water temple less confusing and tedious. Not to say it completely alleviated it, but it is much better. For instance, they color coded the water levels. Before you just had to remember which symbol raised to which height. Another big difference, and probably the biggest improvement to not just the temple but the game as a whole, was the itemification of the Iron Boots. Previously, the Iron Boots worked like equipment, similar to the different colored tunics. So, in order to swap the boots on and off, you had to pause the game, go to the equipment tab, and change which boots you where wearing. It got really old, really fast. It also made locations in the temple where you breezed through a living nightmare.

I never ended up beating OoT on the N64 as a kid because of the Water Temple. If I recall correctly, they don't mark the rooms where the water levels are, the iron boots must be equipped like normal boots, and they also don't have the camera angle to show you where that hidden room/key is when you raise the water level - you just had to discover it on your own. So I ended up missing the key, raising the water level, & couldn't figure out how to go back & get it. Eventually I started over as a teen & finally beat it. XD

fun fact: dark link doesn't just copy your moves. he will always have the same health as you regardless of your run. for example if you fight him with 6 hearts, he will have 6 hearts. if you have 10 hearts he will have 10 hearts. and the longer you fight him the more solid he becomes and more powerful. in the most real way "Dark Link" is Link! he is you! Physically and emotionally!

The iron boots in the N64 were not an item. We had to pause everytime we wanted to put on the boots. Also there were no markings on the walls to help find where to change the water level.
@DarkNog3 жыл бұрын
Not sure why people hated this temple. Yes, the mechanic with putting the boots on and taking them off in the pause menu was irritating. But the design and concept of the temple is, in retrospect, extremely well thought out. It's unrivalled in OoT because it's so non-linear. It's hard to get proper stuck in the other temples.

If you thought the Water Temple was cryptic and confusing, believe or not, it was even WORSE in the original N64 version. 1) The pathways that lead to the water level switches were not color-coded in the original game. This can make it hard to know where they were at times, and it is harder to make clear on changing the water level. 2) The cutscene at 19:34, showing you the way downwards, did not exist in the original game. The end result is that many would miss out on that small key and be stuck at that point for a long while. 3) The biggest of all, the Iron Boots couldn't be assigned to a button. You had to go into the menu every time you want to equip and unequip it.

I'm probably one of the few people in the world that actually knows the water temple in OOT, and I'm able to backtrack where I messed up, if I did. Pretty awesome first attempt at the water temple. Specially beating dark link with the master sword, it's way easier using the big goron sword which you already had. Most of the time I end up missing one key when I have to go get the boss key. That one is way more frustrating than missing the boss key. On the other hand you did struggle quite a bit with some of the easiest rooms in the temple
