Have you ever heard of aging? There’s about a 90% chance you’re doing it right now and a 10% chance you’re going to be even more confused after this watching video. Doesn’t it seem like teenagers are growing up extremely fast, and people who are close to being middle-aged are still looking like 20-30 years olds? Well, that’s because aging is a social construct and we can be whatever age we want with the power of skincare, plastic surgery, beauty filters, and knowledge. We're wondering Why does no one look their age nowadays? Back in the day, people used to look a lot older compared to what high schoolers look like now. Let’s dive deeper into why social media is changing the way we perceive ourselves and how new technology is creating a new standard of looking young forever. The Way People Are Aging is Messed Up #edvasian

Ikr, she for sure had cosmetic treatments (i do too), and without filters she does look older. But she still looks beautiful, which is contrary to how women are supposedly allowed to be when we are over 30. We’re supposed to be the golden girls once we hit 30. Unfortunately women are shamed when we age. I’m glad more older people look younger, so we don’t have to feel like we have to be old (in personality and looks, like we have to give up and stay home away from the judging public). 40 is around half of the average lifespan but we’re made to feel like 30 is when we expire and are old.

@@akabeni_mjmaybe because there are so many things said about it, that just don't apply to everyone. One example... ppl always say aging starts at 25, right? In my early 20s I was living in a marriage that was very bad and traumatic to me and when I turned 25, I already had deep wrinkles between my eyebrows from choking so much sadness and anger. Instantly when I noticed how my life path had aged me so much too early, I started feeling bad and regretful about that aging. I just want to be kind to myself and get back at least a part of the joy and youth that I lost to my bad decisions. I already suffered enough and felt ugly enough, and though I chose the husband myself I don't think that I deserved the poor treatment and the fact that it shortened my life. I don't mind aging generally, but I wanna try to live healthy and happy enough to get a bit of the lifespan back that it would cost me to age on that rapidly.

You're only as old as you feel 😊 plus society is always geared towards young people so it's best not to get caught up since we all have to get old & die someday so delaying the inevitable is just kinda silly

For me, the problem is not looking older because that is something that's gonna happen no matter what. The bigger problem is ageism: the fact that society is telling a lot of people that they cannot pursue their dreams and explore other career fields because of their age. That's one of the worst types of discrimination in my opinion. Let's stop putting age restrictions!

It’s objectively true that older people are worse and literally cannot complete certain jobs. If you are 70 years old you will NEVER be a professional athlete. If you are 70 you will never be hired as a soldier or policemen. There are only a few careers old people can be successful in. This isn’t “ageism” this is reality and biology. Not only are older people weaker, slower, and have more health problems, your brain begins to slow down and not fire as quickly, your memory also worsens. Age matters
@bambina5604
@bambina5604 Жыл бұрын
@@YungPhilosopher wrong. Only a small percentage of professions CAN'T be done by older people. Athlete isn't even a real profession, it's not something anyone can do their entire life and it's one of the first things that could be eliminated from society because the only value in it is entertainment. As for the real jobs it's only the ones requiring physical strength that have real age limitations and there're not so many of them anymore. Soldier can be one but at the other hand most soldiers do contracts and then switch careers so the age discrimination in other professions hurts them later on.

The obsession with looking young was always weird to me. My girlfriend is 9 years older than me (39) and is aging like a regular human. Crow’s feet when she smiles, smile lines, and her nose does a cute pinch thing when she laughs, etc. I think she’s absolutely gorgeous. I have the biggest crush on her, and yet she hates the way she looks. It breaks my heart that she can’t see herself the way I see her. Lines and wrinkles are absolutely beautiful.

honestly one reason why people used to "look older" back then because the fashion and styling looks old and dated to us now, which immediately subconsciously makes us realise they have to be older than us. it's true that kids want to age wayy too quickly these days but that doesn't mean that the trends of today aren't going to look dated in 10+ years and thus also aging. Exactly! I even watched a video on it and that's one of the main reasons why it looks like that. The second thing is people would be like yeah they were "this age old here" but in reality that's not their true age. Like the guy in the thumbnail must be older, no way he's 21 for example. I look at my mom's pictures when younger and she literally looks her age except for the clothes and make up as you said.

My gosh I am SUPER GLAD, you brought this up, because at 23 and with my Grandma moving in because of her dementia, I realized I was starting to brush her off. It struck me that I was doing exactly what I fear would happen to me. We all age, we have to accept it, so why do we hate people for “looking old”? Probably because we fear it happening to us. We fear the Inability to be perceived as pretty, and that takes away our power. But if we just listen to the young generation then we are missing the understanding and wisdom of the elders who GAVE US everything. Just because you age, doesn’t mean your life is suddenly meaningless or that you can’t accomplish what others have. I love my Grandma, I am trying to be more patient and there for her so she doesn’t feel brushed under the rug. And maybe that’s selfishly because I myself don’t want that to happen to me…

Being catcalled can have nothing to do with “hotness” and more to do with wanting to feel some type of power. Wow. That's bad... I feel you. I look a lot younger than I am and have always been mistaken for much younger, even as a child. When I was in my early 20s I was constantly mistaken for 14 or 16 (even on the rare occasions that I was wearing heavy make-up) and had to show my ID everywhere. It's quite a bit irritating to show ones ID when one just hit their mid-20s and has been to that exact place a few times. I'm 29 now and still have security guards scrutinise me and overhear my conversations with my boyfriend, probably in the hopes of catching someone underage and throwing them out. I'm even getting mistaken for my own child's sister and he's 3 years old now! 😩

I did not so healthy things to stay thin. I never considered my insides. Always the surface, and how I looked. 50 hit me like a truck and I went through a little depression about the whole menopause thing. Somewhere along the line I realized how fortunate I am to have lived this long, and everything I do now is about taking care of my body and mind, and just being healthy. Most of them look young and don't have a lot of very prominent wrinkles or anything! For me the age crisis is always about whether or not I'm hitting certain life milestones at the "right time" (which doesn't exist, I know) and I can just imagine how kids feel cause they're also being told that they need to achieve certain things at a certain age AND they're made to worry about aging as well.

When people obsess over youth they will speed up the ageing process - if you take an interest in ageing you will slow it down. Bottom line young people only interested in young people and their views of health , skin care products, anti ageing etc, are blind people being led by blind people. The Tik Tok generation is going to age the worse of all as they can only consult other young people about ageing - when they should just follow older people who are ageing or have least been through some of the ageing process and try to glean some of their advice, tips etc. Instead they are obssesed withing being young while ageing every day and get surpised when they hit 30 years old. I take care of my skin a normal amount but swore I would never buy an 'anti aging' product. Older women are so powerful and beautiful, why are we so afraid of looking like them?! The perfectly smooth faces of anti-aging addicts give me serious uncanny valley effects, I know they are humans and I will always treat them as such but they don't look fully human to me. I'm surprised by how many comments here echo the sentiment that scrolling through tiktok makes them feel ugly. At 53, I'm fortunate and happy to say that aging is not as hard as I thought it would be. Chronic health problems will pop up and require management, so definitely do your best with exercise, sunscreen, eating healthy, etc. And lots of surprises come with menopause, so educate yourself about it while you are young. But I would encourage everyone to worry about aging less, and enjoy being good to yourself more.

I'll be honest... 25 hit me like a bag of bricks. I've had a few major age flips in my life. I was mistaken for an adult starting at age 9 (adults would hit on me, and in middle school my school shared a name with a local college so when I mentioned the name of my school, people would ask what my major was) and it sucked because I would be treated like an adult or get told that I was "an old soul"/"so mature for my age" by people who knew how young I was when in reality I /really/ was no more mentally mature than anyone else my age. At age 18, people treated me like I was 30, there was no room for childish mistakes and everyone expected me to be the adult in the room. I even tried to dress as young/immaturely as I could in order to look my age but people just saw it as me having a well developed personal style. And on my 21st birthday... I didn't get carded. Then around age 23, I started to actually look my age (maybe even baby faced) and I started to actually get asked for ID when getting drinks. But then, when I turned 25, I practically woke up the next day with a full beard, a whole different face shape, worse skin, broader shoulders, a slightly receded hairline and a few grey hairs. 25 year old me practically looks like a different person than 24 year old me. The shift hit so fast that I get caught off guard by my own appearance in the mirror. I went from a twink top to an otter (verging on bear) in like 2.5 seconds. Plus, there wasn't any shift in my weight at the time so it's not like my appearance changed from that People who haven't seen me since before the pandemic have a hard time recognizing me now and even my family keeps saying I really changed overnight. I suddenly look just like my uncle and it's weird as heck.

I'm sorry you had to deal with such a shock, i can't imagine waking up and not recognizing yourself, being treated differently etc. But ngl for the first half of this I was convinced you were a girl, i even pictured pigtails and a pink crop top when you mentioned "dressing your age", and then the full beard comment came literally out of nowhere xD had to go back and reread while picturing a boy lol

At 19 I started losing my hair. I'm 23 now and have been completely bald for a year. I'm able to grow a full beard no problem and have a TON of body hair. I have an abnormally wrinkly face for my age and, in general, consistently get mistaken for a man in his early 30's. My brother, who is only 16 months younger, has the exact opposite experience. Full head of hair, no facial hair, barely any body hair, little to no wrinkles, and very much looks his age. The funniest part of this all, is that we have shockingly similar builds, general bone structure, have been told we look like twins many different times, and have lived almost identical life experiences (both have spent a lot of time in the sun, have similar diet, etc.) Genetics are a weird, luck of the draw sort of thing I will never understand...

I'm 35. When I was a teen, the most I remembered about anyone seeming older was a girl in my class that had a boyfriend years older than her and had a beeper at freakin' 14. She did also looked older than me even though we were about the same age. It was bad enough that I had to deal with the toxic beauty standards of the 2000's like being skinny (which never really died off entirely and is just as bad if not worse today). Despite movements like the body positivity trying to challenge and change that, it didn't seem like it did much to make real overall change. For ages they're have been some sort of beauty standards that are harmful in some way. Today isn't any different except that it's gotten more extream and easier to compare ourselves in so many ways. People throughout the years have talked about how bad it is when you take things too far, and most of us know in our minds that this is bad enough, yet we never really learn. Not entirely. Perhaps some do and they're the lucky ones to overcome it no matter what's thrown at them. Unless it's some sort of facade, but I guess I wouldn't know. I don't know what's really going on in the minds of those that have it all when it comes to their feelings of their physical looks.

I just turned 30 on Sunday. Back when I was a teenager I was commonly mistaken for being older than I was (probably at least partly due to my being pretty tall) but I got really into skincare in my early 20s and now most people say I look younger (not drastically but generally in my mind 20s). I do like it tbh and had a sort of mild freakout about turning 30 but now that it's happened, I'm already over it haha. Literally nothing has changed, I just don't get to say I'm in my twenties anymore. It is weird the fascination we have with aging and in definitely not immune. I try to take care of my skin and hate when I see a line or white hair but whatever it's part of life.

I think finding much older people that you can look up to for their beauty helps. Not actresses because they usually have looking good as an important aspect of their career so it's not really realistic either. Look at other people like famous scientists etc... Yes, she uses lots and lots of beauty products, lotions, masks, etc, and being petite and slim doesn't hurt her looks either. I'm 31 and have never been scared of aging on the outside - possibly because my mom got me quite late in her life and I've always found her absolutely gorgeous, even though she was older than the other kids' moms. I find wrinkles, especially the ones around the eyes, really beautiful, telling a story. And don't get me started about grey and white hair (I LOVE it). No, what scares me is the aging inside the body. I've had my load of pain early on let's say and being in pain constantly is terrifying. And I know basically no person over 60 who's not having some kind of chronic pain. Body not functioning to its fullest, that's what makes aging scary to me, not wrinkles or loosing tone in the muscles.

I am now 58 years old and I look like it 😊. First, fear is a bad counselor. The most important thing is your inner world. The pain or some illness you have is warning you, that something is wrong. When I was younger, I heard that 99% of diseases are created on a psychological basis. I would add that after all these years, in my opinion, it is more emotional. I hope you don't have any illness. You need to find your inner peace, that's the most important thing. The internet is full of everything, spiritualism, positive thinking, etc. You need to find what is best for you. Trust your feelings, intuition.... And of course, a couple of good friends and some exercise is important. 😊

I don't want to change.
@theaqua1517
@theaqua1517 6 ай бұрын
Change is necessarily to have in life and it's not always a bad thing. It's tied to experiencing life . Aging sooner or later happens to everyone, it's nobody's fault . The alternative is to stop being alive - that way you won't age a day . I am pretty sure you don't want that for yourself. I don't know if plastic surgery is a good idea because there are possibilities such as your features deforming . But if you decided otherwise - no one can stop you. 34 is by no means old - you are still pretty young . One day you will be 70 and look backwards and you will realise that you were quite young at the time

I just went through a revelation related to this. I'm 27 and my hairline has been receding slightly more each year since I was 22. I used to get haircuts that would cover it up and I was very self conscious about it. I found some people liked my hair and some didn't. Recently, I got it cut in a way that is still nice but more natural and doesn't cover up the hairline. It was a little bold, but afterwards I was surprised that I felt more confident, like I was myself and I actually liked my hair. Most interestingly, people's opinions about my hair have seemed to flip. Those that didn't like my cut now do, and vice versa. It really showed me how people have different values. I want to be around people that like the more confident, natural me.

Same im 19 and ppl think Im 14/15 bc im kinda short & have a baby face & am slim (makes me look small.) So strangers treat me as a child, asks me for my ID to buy redbull (u gotta be 15 to buy it in my country.), and laughing & looking shocked when I say im an adult with a fkn drivers license and all. Idc if people think im ugly or whatever, but it bothers me to be treated as a kid. Im from a country where ppl look older & are generally tall, so yeah, its exhausting

i’m 26, almost 27 and i’m still a student with a lot of 18-20 year old people in my class. definitely made me more self conscious about my appearance. i feel like i’m not really ready to age even though it’s happening.. haven’t had a good childhood either so aging is even more difficult because i can never regain those years

I feel that. To others, I had an okay childhood. To me, I wish it was better. I do have parents that love me but their strict parenting made me lose my outgoingness and become more quiet and shy. I didn't go out much and was pretty sheltered that I don't get much pop culture references at all. I try to make comments when in a conversation but it is so hard for me since half of the time, I get scared of accidentally offending someone if I said something dumb cause of my lack of experience. Entering college, my sense of self became to change but it is a bit of a slow process so I choose to stay in college a bit longer cause I wanted to take my time. I am also in a class of 18-20 years old. I look young though for my age (27 years old; I get mistaken as a high schooler often by strangers) - kind of a relief for me but I feel conscious that if people knew my age, they think I would be mature and I have more life experience. I'm not. I am still trying to find myself as a person.

I'm also 43, but childfree. I feel alright with how I'm aging but tbh I never thought I ever looked that extrordinary to begin with. Styling, clothes, hairstyles and make up go a long long way. Also, can't forget how there used to be a plethora of really dated and unflattering trends that were way more prevelent before we all got unlimited access to knowledge on what will make regular folks look more attractive.

We also can't forget the effects of smoking on aging. If you live in an area where people used to start smoking as teens and now most people don't smoke, they probably do look younger on average.

I'm 43. I hit puberty early and was mistaken as an older teen / in my twenties when I was as young as 12. That was almost entirely because people would see my chest and not bother to look at anything else. By the time I was 30, I had people telling me I looked 19-20. I'm only now starting to look 'old enough' that I've stopped being assumed as super young. I'm just someone who burns easily, so I've always used sunscreen and stay out of the sun as much as possible. I guess if I put in effort/money I could stay looking younger longer, but I honestly prefer not being mistaken for a child.

I have a friend who is exactly as you described. When she was 12, she looked like a young woman - tall and curvy. But she almost looked the same for 15 following years lol. Her facial features only changed a bit. And now she still looks younger than her actual age. I think this is some interesting genetic trick, but it's overall quite cool.

Everyone under 35 tries to look 25. Everyone over 35, tries to look 35 forever. I'm mid-50s and look about 35. Funny that for me it is exactly what that mother-daughter pair said: don't drink much alcohol, don't smoke, glycolic acid, retinol, and Vit-C (plus sunblock), eating healthy, and also getting enough sleep, which she didn't mention. Turns out feeling good is the most effective path to looking good. So live a healthy life, and no matter how you look you'll be winning.

Sleep is really important for aging because it's when your body does alot of it's regenerating. And most people, especially younger ones tend to ruin that by pulling all nighters and partying and the grind and hustle mindset which you can pull off when you're younger but catches up with you eventually.

Love this video. Thanks for making it. I'm 31, and am much happier with my appearance now than my early 20s. I think I look pretty decent for 31, but I'm noticing my skin changing... little wrinkles appearing.. scars healing slower... it is what it is! I'm fascinated by ageing but we can only make do with what we've got. Just keep healthy to some degree, enjoy life, and just get on with it :)

Just turned 25 and got ID checked a day later for buying beer (Germany, legal drinking age is 16) so I'm definitely team babyface. I am less self-concious about it nowadays since I don't mind looking younger myself, but some people treat me like a teenager when they don't know my age. It's mostly when I smoke or drink that I will get asked my age and sometimes people will just straight up refuse to believe me until they see my ID. I'm also a short guy so that doesn't help, but it's not like I can change anything so I'm working towards just accepting it.

It's really weird, for the longest time I looked younger than my actual age but, somewhere along the line it kinda all caught up at once 😂🤣. The only bad thing about aging is while you look older on the outside you still feel young on the inside. The thing is at some point you're going to look older or extremely strange no matter how much surgery you get. It's better to spend your time and money on getting and staying healthy. I'm 67 BTW 😸

I sunbathed like crazy but I think genes are mostly what kept me looking younger. But, after 2 kids, surgery, husband with major illness, and well, the hormonal upheaval, aging is coming like a freight train. It's hard. Better then the alternative!

TW but i didn't think i would live past 20 bc of my depression so it really didn't matter to me. the lowest age ive gotten mistaken for this year is 11, & ppl REALLY squint at my ID whenever i buy alcohol bc they think its a fake. it used to get on my nerves bc nobody took me seriously but tbh the ppl who love u will still love u no matter ur appearance. also, my aunt is 38 with kids & still gets hit on by 16 y/os. she absolutely hates it & would rather look her age, esp since she wants to grow old with her husband. it's all abt perspective.

The world is so over the top with anti-aging now. I’m 34 and feel like I’m aging…. Appropriately? I think we need to shift to “good self care” instead of “anti-aging.” Aging is normal people. Well, until science says otherwise.

I’m in my mid 30s but look mid 20s as I’m routinely told so when people discover my age. That’s always been the case so now that I am “old”/“getting old” by societal standards I’m old but “lucky” I don’t look it. Tbh even though I’m on the “lucky” side of aging it is still unpleasant to have people comment or freak out or linger on my age excessively. It gets uncomfortable and embarrassing especially when the highlight is “how OLD I actually am” and have even had other women (usually younger even if only by 3yrs) weaponize in an attempt to embarrass me in front of people on some but she’s old/older. SMH. I hate it here🥴🙄

In regards to Zac Efron, his was reconstructive plastic surgery after he slipped on the floor and split his jaw open 😬 Also I don’t really have anything against people using Botox because I get it for medical reasons (chronic migraine). Which has made me keep looking good at 30 lol. I do hate that we all feel the pressure to look a different age (or just younger in general) due to unrealistic beauty standards.

I'm also aware that looking younger, having ✨nice skin✨ and such are "amazing" things, besides the minor inconveniences of being treated like a damn child I don't really take much time to appreciate all this "youth" and the good aspects of my situation cus somehow I'm aaalways trying not to panic about the fact that this is just a fase and eventually my collagen will fade and finally being treated like an adult might actually be bad 😮 feels like we can never win

47. I’ve been told I look younger than my age, and honestly, outside body aches, I don’t feel like I’m old. Until I watch a video of a nine year old having surgery. I probably looked older when I was in high school, we had terrible hair and makeup. But genetically speaking, I guess I was lucky compared to some of my classmates. I do not get the plastic surgery culture. The pressure in the 90s was tough, but it really doesn’t seem as today. I feel for kids today, the standards just aren’t reachable without filters and a fat wallet. It takes high maintenance these days to have a natural look when it used to be we wanted to look forty (to get into clubs, a little dark lipstick and smudged liner went a long way).
