The way you USED to change wiper blades

Long ago, you simply had your wiper blades refilled, usually by an attendant at a service station, instead of standing in front of 12ft of wiper blades in a store.

It's been quite a while, but I did the blade insert refills for many years. You're right, they used to be real cheap.

Right on. My Dad bought a whole bunch of those cut to length refills at a swap meet. We was glad to get them.

Love the old style wipers, I hate when some plastic POS or black wiper is on an old car. Love these people spending top dollar on a restoration and having cheap Kmart wipers. Great channel Tyler 👍

I used to do it that way up until all the refills disappeared from stores. Now the type of wipers my car needs aren't refillable and each wiper costs $15-20!

Seems like Trico blades are a little more tricky to refill. I have original Anco blades on my 69, these have the bridge type blades with a button. Press it and it comes apart easily and it is installed back in seconds, like it was advertised on the old refill boxes. 68 and 69 cars came with either these Trico or Anco blades. 67 cars were different, and only had Anco "anti wind lift" blades I think

That's the method I prefer! Much cheaper for just the refills. Where did you source your refills? I can always use some 16" for the '81 Silverado. With the Anco refills, I usually start feeding in the refill from the second clip, onto the third, run it out past the last clip, and then back it up into the first clip. It'll snap right in, with a bit of persuasion, to lock in place. I tried the cut to fit universals from O'Reilly, but it was a huge fail.

Wiper blades are now a margin booster item for parts store. A pair can be as much as $60+ these days, totally ridiculous… I buy mine from Rock Auto, most are under $5 (the same exact models in stores are 3-5x the price).

I am 76 did it old school like this, got lazy and bought the assembly, now it is even worse. I have arthritis in my hands I pull into the parts store, give the wife the debit card an the part # she goes in comes out with the parts guy and he puts them on. For me. I hate being an old gimp....LOL

Where are you getting the blade refills from? Been trying forever to get them for my 1971 Chevy Cheyenne
