Yeah that climbing with the bare hands was quite something. Yesss! Absolutely, the dialogue interface is very reminiscent to what we saw in Daggerfall, and especially Morrowind, a very good thing. I might be selfish in saying this, BUT if I had a choice, I would like BOTH the reading AND voice over hahah. But if I could pick only one, then of course, the text based dialogue. A friend told me that a playable BETA Early Access might be coming December of NEXT year, 2025. Right, is it possibly to be truly evil or good in The Wayward Realms, I wonder this myself. I feel with the world being mostly procedural generated, it would make for a perfect game for let's players to...Let's Play the game. Many different type of adventures & experiences people can have. This is some great stuff & great topic to discuss. I may do something similar myself, friend. Thank you again for this information.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Action RPGs are just more popular than classic RPGs these days. Also, some might consider the game too ambitious to be good. Procedural generation gets a lot of bad rep these days and a game that uses this technology to generate even the story might be off-putting to some people. I really hope the game turns out fantastic but it's no surprise that the kickstarter isn't nearly as succesful as KCD's.
@WOOHOJEHA2 ай бұрын
Back in 2014 Kickstarter was still a new thing and there was a lot of hype around developers bringing back old school types of games that AAA publishers weren't interested in funding. Some of those led to great success; games like Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Divinity: Original Sin, etc. But there were a also a lot of Kickstarters that ended with very disappointing games or just never released at all so people are a lot more weary about funding projects like this.
@donwald343620 күн бұрын
Kickstarter is like mini angel VC, you can put your money in on something you support and maybe you get something or maybe you get nothing. As long as it's not an outright scam well you put your money in and you got nothing, that was one of the possible outcomes lol.
@nolanmcintosh47124 ай бұрын
I mostly paid into kickstarter hearing stories from some of the developer's who recently graduated college struggled to get their foot in the game industry, I can sympathize with them and I can relate with their difficulties starting their career because I'm in same boat with my own career path. I never played Daggerfall, the only Bethesda games that I have touched was Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Obilivion, Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls Online and Starfield. I have played procedural generated games outside of Starfield like No Man's Sky, Minecraft and the original Diablo.

I'm gonna be cautiously interested in this game. I think when open world games are set on a series of islands it feels like the creations wanted to get away with not blending the biomes together seamlessly, and to cheapen out on the map size since a lot of it will be water. lots of RPGs seemed to do that in late 2000s/early 2010s

Ty for the vid...great coverage about how wayward realms has been recieved. I think there is a lot of potential there...and maybe the doubts are right...and that potential is not even possible. But imo if we can get a result that is similar to daggerfall with modern technology then that is already doing more than most game devs are even aiming for.
@lobban24 ай бұрын
I have high hopes for this one. Even if it's a bit of a gamble (as everything you pay for in advance) I believe this can help developers understand what players want to play going forward.

The reason western games have changes is because gaming has become so much more common that the majority of gamers now are really young, like 10-14 years olds basically. Back in the era of Daggerfall and those games the average gamer was likely in their 20's. As a result games have had to become more juvenile in order to appease the younger audience basically. That's why a game like this isn't as popular, but a game having people dressing silly and twerking and filled with childish humour would be popular etc. It appears western games escaped their origins, and copied Japanese RPG's that have always been more childish, Japanese RPG's lean on good vs evil and plot driven, with often juvenile characters, it really appeals to young kids, because in Japan their main gamer base was always young kids anyway. With the success of Japanese games, I feel like western games started adopting the same kind of direction and became similar to Japanese games. Games like Wayward Realms is attempting to revive the true western RPG, but they will have a hard time doing it, when the average gamer in the west is a 13 year old kid.

The term gameplay loop is always a bitt worrysome to me, very hopeful though 🙏
@OnceLostGames4 ай бұрын
A gameplay loop is what every game has, even ones like crafting and survival. Games do not consist of one time action experiences, but rather a set of actions that you repeat with some variety to keep them feeling fresh. We would never make the gameplay as simple as what the gameplay loop we described was, but when you break down all the elements, those are the set of actions that players will be preforming in the game.

Longevity is much more important than having all kinds of bells and whistles that take away from the experience. If i'm playing RPG video game, i want to have more choices in dialogue, not someone spelling out only a few choices for me, or having to watch another cutscene because of an "event" happening. Why then not watch a movie instead? I've also seen some people complaining over the years, about how every game needs a very deep story and every character an almost as deep back story, otherwise there's no "emotional" connection and it's not worth the investment of one's time because of this. It's mostly nonsense to me though, because any game throws you in it's world and you need to survive, emotional connection and deep story or not. There's lot's of games out there, that have (almost) no story and are mighty replayable. I'm not saying story isn't important, because it is for certain genres of games. Adventure games are the first that come to mind, with RPG's coming second. The Wayward Realms seems to aim for a balance between having story and having the freedom to create your own.

At 7:00 You are comparing Kingdome come deliverance to this game and Your argumet is that if Kingdome come deliverance a game by an uknown developer can generate 1 milion punds in 36 hours , surley this game can raise more. In my opinion this statement is wrong, Kingdome come deliverance had Daniel Vavra who was the writter for Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 , both of which are great games i would even say they were genre defining. Another thing is that KCD had great / realistic fighting mechanics , great grafics when it came out. Currently im waiting for Skywing , and Skyblivion but still i would loe to play this game and i hope it will get realesed

Its Huge (thats what she said..) but is it only single player ? Are you alone in all in this game, is it purely single player ? Ive played more single player RPGs than I can count, and I just cant go around a huge map alone anymore, killing hordes of npcs, I need a coop buddy in games I play now
@magickaddictАй бұрын
You are a social gamer!? I'm a loner gamer! Co-op is not a bad thing to have. But they need to design the quests, reputation systems and other systems for co-op mode. Extra work. But then BG3 did it. But that is a narrative RPG. This is a sandbox RPG like Bethesda games, so maybe the focus is on Single player with lots of factions and game systems and co-op is not a priority?
@LudydobryАй бұрын
@@magickaddict I agree with that, Im not playing single games anymore since Ive played all of the old good ones in the past 30 years, new ones just dont pull me in with anything new its all seen, done and killed before. The only way to experiance it differently is when there is a human interaction so its not just you and the npc, there is an extra, unpredictable non AI player and thats when it becomes fun for me. I played BG3 solo, its the best CRPG ive ever played in my life, I also played it in 4 player coop and thats something you never forget, trully amazing experiance, filled with interaction and unpredictability.

I truly don't understand the criticism of procgen that says "it will be lots of the same assets reused" You take a game like skyrim and it reuses the same assets many times across many use cases and people don't seem to realize that is a must in gaming. You can't make a unique visual asset for everything in a game. The question is not if procgen will reuse assets...the question is will it do reuse assets in a way that creates scale but not in a way that is so intrusive that the reuse stands out more than with regular games that don't uses procgen Sure you can look at the dated visuals of daggerfall and say "I am bored nothing interesting has been done here" But that is only true in the context of modern gaming....at the time daggerfall was one of the most ambitious games to ever hit the market. Now some of the same team are trying to do that again with modern technology. Call me crazy but I think that has lots of potential as an area to explore in the gaming industry and as far as I can tell there are not many in the space trying to explore that potential.
@magickaddict4 ай бұрын
Good points. I think Daggerfall quests were also very interesting. I think the mages guild questline had way more variety and more interesting decisions to make than the Mages Guild quests in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. The Merchants and InnKeeper quests were charming, even though they were simpler quests. Also, the number of factions and quests from each faction were incredible. If they ensure every faction is well developed, like Daggerfall then, this will be a wonderful game. On top of that we have modern visuals, sailing, spell maker and lots of interesting mechanics. Lets hope we get an alpha build by the end of 2025
@eam12194 ай бұрын
such an ambition, but as usual, I'm afraid, reality will make a hard check later on. E.g. take wind simulation, why on Earth you need it in a fantasy RPG? And at the same time, dialogs are voiceless an dump a lot of text on players, as if it is 1999

personally, I need a more solid foundation and something before giving money I believe that they will deliver what is promised for the backers, but I think what they have as a goal is maybe unlikely to be achievable. not impossible just that it would require somebody like Microsoft or Sony backing them with a huge amount of money to achieve the end goal they have set. I think if they can take the money they have been gifted by people and bring out something that wows me I'm all for it, and I have faith that the world building and stuff will be great. I mean everything they have shown is good so far from seasonal weather to the boats the npc the overall is looking good. I would like a real handwritten aspect and some handcrafter aspects to be shown off as well because using procedural generation for everything isn't great. in my view it's not that it doesn't work but it needs to be done in moderation along with hand built and crafter aspects to be great. this was more longwinded than I intended but I guess I think they can handle it, but I just personally need a little more proof and convincing. I hope they can deliver because if they do the game is basically everything I want in a game.

Sony would keep it a Playstation exclusive. Not sure how the team would feel about that. Microsoft is interesting, given they have acquired studios making similar games (sort of), but again this discussion will happen once the alpha build comes out. Thats when they talk to publishers. As you said the Alpha build quality will be the key. Let's hope we get that build by the end of 2025.
