I love TWC from about 1991 to 1997, but I think the years 1993, 1994, and 1996 were my favorite. What made 1996 so good for me was Trammell Starks's music during the local forecasts. But, once WeatherStar 4000 changed to the XL, I lost my obsession with this channel.

This was a pillar of my early days, because of the weather channel, my interest in science was born and they helped me learn how to read weather radars and read the clouds

I used to crack up my college roommate by imitating the pitch and tone of the local weather channel narrator: “The current radar showing any precipitation in your area. Intensity is indicated by the color code at the top of the screen.” 😉

The tune right before the local forecast has to be the most iconic. Back in the 80's I remember the "for everything you do" tune before the local forecasts. I couldn't go through one night without hearing TWC. I would actually not sleep without it on. I suppose it was my mom that got me hooked on it. She'd have it on all night and sleep to it. Lol. One forecast I remember back in the mid to late 80's was a risk of severe storms from Washington state all the way to Maine. I don't remember which year it was exactly, but seeing so much red on the map stuck with me.

I think he was there and doing his local " out in the storm" schtick, but he was still more of a sideshow. I'm a weather guy too, and I understand his enthusiam, but the weather channel began to be a personality driven network. We used to have the Weather Channel on all the time, but when characters like Stephanie Abrams came on board we only turned it on to try to catch the forecast.

Wow, so this was the first time people actually saw graphics and something other than a blue screen for their local forecast? Or at least the first day? Did some cable markets get the WS4000 earlier than others? I found footage from 1992 that already had it. I was watching The weather channels 40th anniversary last month and they did like a trivia thing where they said the local on the 8s didn't happen until 1996 and that felt wrong to me because I remember watching the weather star forecast thing earlier on in the '90s. And I guess they did kind of do the local on the 8s. They just didn't call it that yet. It was the local forecast. I really miss the weather star 4000 big old chunky weather graphics. I always found them super exciting when I achieved new ones based on what my weather would be.

It's amazing how sensationalized things are now.......even radar. Back then, dark greens and yellows were nasty storms. Now their radar.....I've had reds and purples move through my area, yet I've seen garden variety storms worse than that. Everything's lies now. I remember back then I begged my dad to buy me The Enemy Wind and Dangers Edge on VHS. I got em for Christmas one year 😊. VHS? Whats that? Lmao. I know. 😂

How I loathe today’s technology. It is a choice to not make graphics look like this awesome stuff. The kids in the cube farm made their choice to put VR headsets on and be offended by all that moves, and here we are. And in 30 years, when the forecast is all-burn and they’re retiring, they’re gonna regret it. But I won’t. I’ll have Trammel Starks’ CDs in my casket. Time to wipe!
