Some years ago I picked up one with the lazermark stock. Was used with some imperfections but the wood is fantastic. Is from the 80s with the 9 lug action but in 30-06. Don't hunt a lot with it so I don't put a lot more dings in it. Been considering a synthetic stock although I really don't like them all that much. They are a great rifle in action as well as looks.

Just got a vanguard in 300 wby with a syn stock. Going to order a Boyd’s walnut stock to try make it look like a pretty mark v

Never shot a Weatherby. As far as a gun I've owned and shot I can say the slickest action I have had is the Bergara premier series.

Bergara's are nice rifles even the less expensive ones like the basic B14 are very good.

I have a lazermark v 300 wbymag and have leveled several deer and wild boar with it. It is accurate and it is a keeper. Bought ammo during covid for 33$ a box weatherby select. So, i bought 5 boxes. And reload for it. My only gripe is the safety is not my favorite design.
@vanguns96644 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree on the safety. It's not terrible but it is definitely not ideal.

Sorry if I'm being a pest, I see some guns listed with an S at the end "Weatherby, Mark V, 300 Weatherby Mag, S" Do you know what the S means?
@vanguns96643 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert on Weatherby rifles, but I heave heard that some of the early Mark V rifles before Roy Weatherby contracted with Joseph Saur in Germany were marked with an "S" to indicate it was made at the Southgate California factory. These are generally more collectible.

Great gun, what makes it a deluxe?
@vanguns96643 ай бұрын
These days the Deluxe uses the classic high polish AA walnut stock with custom inlays of rosewood and maple. The Deluxe also uses Weatherby's famous and classic highly polished blued finish. Some of the more "modern" Mark Vs are using modern stocks from composites including carbon fiber and also offer cerakote finish. The Deluxe is a high quality throwback paying homage to Roy's custom guns from the 50's and 60s.

@@vanguns9664 I've been doing some reading so I can make a somewhat educated decision on a W. German made 7mm magnum. I learned that the rifling in the guns made in W. Germany at that time may have 1:10 or 1:12 twist, and the 1:12 twist can't stabilize heavier bullets, the 1:10 and can shoot any weight bullet. Thank you.
@vanguns96643 ай бұрын
@@bigredc222 When Weatherby was no longer able to keep up with production demands they hired Joseph Sauer & Sons to manufacture the Mark V actions and barrels in West Germany. There were some variances in the twist rates so making sure you get a 1:10 is important. In the every late 60s or very early 70s manufacturing was moved to Howard of Japan. Weatherby continued to do the final assembly in California. In the mid-1990s Weatherby started making the rifles in the USA again at Paso Robles and then later about 10-15 years ago in Wyoming.

The rifle in this video has average wood. I never understood the appeal of a wby in a non wby caliber. Not collectible and defeats the entire point of shooting a wby. I have 3 nib Mk V Deluxe models... 300, 6.5 300 and 257 with stunning wood. Handle with care. Gloss sealcoat totally unfixable if dinged, but beautiful.
@vanguns96647 ай бұрын
It may very well be average for a Weatherby, but average for a Weatherby is well above average for the industry. FYI: This rifle is chambered in .300 Weatherby which is in fact a Weatherby cartridge, perhaps you were referring to another commenter's rifle. I tend to agree that a Weatherby ought to have a Weatherby cartridge, certain the Mark V at least. As for collector value some people including me tend to buy rifles to shoot rather than collect.
@bigredc2223 ай бұрын
I'm looking at a German made 7mm mag, the wood has beautiful figuring, but the wood has several dings, it looks like an old gun would look that was hunted with. Are you saying it's not possible to fix the wood? I know I couldn't fix it, but I was hoping if I bought it I could find someone that could make it look new.
