The Web is one of the last episodes of Gumball, and boy was it not good. I would consider it to be one of, if not the worst episode of season six. I'm not sure, because there are still a few more to go, but boy was it not a good episode. Find out why.

For some reason, this is my favorite Gumball episode. I just love their portrayal of the internet and how they interpreted meme culture, from the Minions to Photoshop to the Harlem Shake (Being a Gen Z, I laughed so many times during this episode). I also don’t think it’s that big of a deal that there was no real plot here, it’s good to just goof around every once in a while. Plus, the song is a killer. I know, I know, unpopular opinion. *I am not perfect, but at least I’m not fake.*

I think it was a fun take on the classical "old people are bad with the internet" which is kind of true. Just recently I had to explain to my mother that you can record your screen...she didn't believe me at first. And Nicole was the right character to focus on since the episode needed her overbearing nature to start everything in the first place. Yeah she was dumbed down quite drastically but it's a common thing for most people coming from a different "era" that are new to computers. Stuff like the Minion Meme's which so many mother's post...my own including, is really relatable. Having her put the money in the computer was admittedly a bit much but exploring the different mistakes people make online other than that was accurate and greatly done. Just the ending was too sudden and unsatisfying :/ But I guess its purpose was only to show how old people tend to be rather awkward with media that is so familiar to a younger generation and make a funny episode out of it. The lack of a real conclusion other than "let the young people handle it and stay in your old times" was poorly done tho.

Honestly, I think they could've done this plot just by having Nicole a LITTLE more experience, but not by a whole lot. Perhaps the concept could still be used, just a little better, like perhaps while she understands how it works, she's the one who isn't secure, so they help her fortify her computer. However, because Nicole is competitive and aggressive sometimes, she gets all the antivirus to have the "strongest" computer, and then the computer becomes an unstoppable force, and she thinks it's fine initially - until it destroys the Rainbow Factory. They then have to use her power of how she used the computer before to get past the fire wall, etc, until destroying the hard drive, destroying the computer. The resolution is that while being secure is good, you can go overboard. She learns that she needs to be careful as well as use antivirus, but not to go overboard or else the computer will be too strong and you just can't use a computer with 600 different antivirus programs. The end of the episode shows Nicole with a new computer, installing one (1) antivirus to be safe, apologizing to the kids for going overboard, before using her new knowledge of the computer to set her desktop to a picture of the family, or something wholesome like that. She vows to not install 600 malware programs, while also vowing to not install 599 extra anitvirus. Everything works out, how it usually does. The end.

When I saw that clip of Nicole failed to use the computer, even my brother, who is quite a fan of Gumball, admitted he didn't like it all that much. To be honest, I'm kind of tired of Gumball atm because I'm kind of sick with the meta jokes being all that is talked about. As much as I liked Sonic Boom and meta humour as a whole, I'm not that interested in meta humour if it is done too much and halfheartedly. I feel that Sonic Boom was more for fans of the franchise as well as not having as much content as Gumball and I think even the actors did the joke better IMO. Gumball, while at first was actually quite funny, became a bit more forced to where they become somewhat frustrating. And that's sad since the show has a lot of good banter between the characters that is more on the situation of the episode, which is pretty entertaining. Maybe I need a long break from it to appreciate this show more though. Huge apologies for being this harsh, because I know a lot of people do enjoy this show. I still think it is a good show, just that I'm kind of overexposed to it already than I'd like. However, if you still enjoy Gumball, GREAT! Don't let me ruin the fun for you and please continue to do so. I'm clearly a minority but I hope I become more open to this show over the passage of time.

I had a couple ideas that could have made this episode better 1. A flashback showing how gumball and Darwin learned to use the internet 2. Anais has to take an online test but doesn’t get some of the things it asks / tells her so she gets gumball and Darwin’s help 3. The school bans all technology but the teachers all still use computers so gumball, Darwin, penny, Carrie, banana joe and Tobias (and bobert) spy on them over the internet and maybe blackmail them into getting the internet back 4. A game convention is occurring in Elmore (it’s run by a spider person) so gumball, darwin and Lesley Tobias Rocky or banana joe either of those want to go to it but their parents insist on going with them I think there are some spelling mistakes in this

Despite nicole being out of character, I think otherwise her role in this ep is kind of perfect. The whole overarching theme of this episode is that the adults/people in charge are inept internet users. Nicole is the breadwinner of the family that they all rely on. She's smart, capable, and makes the rules. Her being dumb about technology further strengthens and solidifies the theme. It's alarming, and extremely relatable, when your otherwise capable parents are bad at tech. It makes sense to me, being gen z, cuz my own parents who i rely on are idiots with tech. Everything about this episode was familiar to me, though some jokes were pretty outdated

Richard is a PC gamer, he set up Mr. Robinson's wifi and set up the lock on the kids computer . There's enough of Richard using computers and the internet for them not to use him in this episode. That being said I thought the casting was pretty on point. Nicole would definitely be the out of touch mom struggling with computers and the internet, what didn't work was involving the rest of the office characters... Theres been scenes in earlier episodes where they used computers competently and even episodes where characters as old as Hectors Mom, Louie and Granny Jojo have used the internet semi competently but not to the degree shown in this episode. There was also the episode where everyone younger than the old folks that sit on the front lawn was lost without the internet after it got a virus. If they made Nicole the outlier and prayed upon her competitive nature to get better at using the internet and saved the overprotective parenting for the end of the episode to give Gumball and Darwin something to fight against, it would have been a better episode. With all the use of characters being dependent on their phones and the internet in the past they definitely burned their bridge to use the 'All adults suck at computers' theme

Season 6 is better than Season 5 though it can go through mediocre episodes at times. Season 1-2. Awesome 😃 Season 3-4 Decent/Good 😀 Seasons 5-6 Average 😐👌

Since people seem to hate this episode it's not bad it's alright. ( I think Nicole is perfectly in character.) Gumball and Darwin are lazy and keep using the computer all day and they mock Nicole for not being computer savy and Mom forces them to unplug. Then she teaches them how to use older technology. They have to because they are bored but they are too stupid to use it. Then Anias keeps mocking Gumball and Darwin because she isn't in trouble. They can't sneak and use the technology because Mom is like a Ninja. They try various ways to sneak and use it but Mom keeps out withing them. Then Mom tells them please just try. Then Gumball and Darwin Actually follow the rules. One if the things ancient people did is use their imagination. And they play in a cardboard box. Then they realize they don't need technology every second of every day. Then they see anais on the computer.Gumball: Who needs computers They smash Anais's with a hammer. We have cardboard boxes. They put Angry Anais in the box. She then gets chib eyes and imagines sledding down a mountain. Anais: Wow this is amazing come closer. Then she beats the snot out of both of them. Then The go in to their Room Gumball and Darwin: Sorry Mom for mocking you and not listening maybe we should turn off the technology every now and then. Then Nicole is an addict her self. They then smash her computer. And put her in a box. Nicole gets Chibi eyes. She then Imagines in the ocean at the beach. They realize they have 5 minutes to live then try to flee to Cannada. When they are in the middle of packing their bags Mom grounds them for breaking the computer. And they are locked in their room. Darwin: But with this box we can be anywhere in the world. They both sit in the box and are suddenly dressed like Prisoners and the room is a jail sell. Then they attempt to imagine other places and it's all dank. Dungeon, Hell, Tied up and roasted on a stick buy hunters. Hunters: Yum a cat and a fish.

Yeah.... This episode was... Meh... It was focused only on the same joke of, and I quote: "Hahahahahahahaha, adult people not knowing how to use internet are funny!!" Ignoring how weird it is to think that.... The people who made this episode... ARE ADULTS. You can't make me believe that in all these years, Nicole never learned how to use Internet.. You are telling me that Nicole did not, but RICHARD did it?? The guy that tried to fix his tv with an hammer??? Yeah... Sure... This episode was a little too lazy, and late with the times for my taste... Maybe they could have used someone else instead of Nicole, like, I dunno... Miss. Simian, or Nigel. They are old as fuck, it would have made more sense.

I don't think that Gumball is on it's last legs, though I do agree with you on everything else. I feel like the producers are trying to hard to show off certain messages and because they're trying so hard it takes away the authenticity and comedy the show is known for. I think if they took a break to reevaluate their show, then these forced episodes would probably go away. Anyway, nice review man! And I loved that second pitch you gave, they've been showing a lot of Mr. Robinson and I think it would've been a much better narrative than what the show did.

I think instead of Nicole, they should have used Nicole's parents instead. Or even Granny Jojo. I think it was quite odd to have one of the smartest characters in the show be portrayed as dumb with computers. Especially since on many occasions in past episodes, Nicole knew how to use computers, like when she could access Darwin's search history. Or you know, how she's literally working on a computer every day at work. Yeah, someone who uses a computer on a daily basis definitely knows how to use one. So this episode had the potential of being a good one imo, but they wasted that by using the wrong character to play the role as the "dumb adult who can't use technology."

Sometimes I feel that you can be hyper critical of things you dislike. However, this episode does seem lazy. I like the idea of Nicole having areas in life in which she is generally inexperienced. They handled it poorly

Nicole's only supposed to be 38, yet she acts like she's a time traveler from the turn of the century here. There are some funny jokes in this episode, but it tries way too hard to shove the whole "adults suck at technology" message that modern TV, movies and music can't seem to get enough of.
