I know that the Thirty Years War song had more votes and this one wasn't even in the poll, but a recent batch of mail-in votes for another Jacobite song was found in the outskirts of my house, so out of democratic zeal I had to count them. Joking aside, there was a very clear separation of tasks among social castes from the second half of the middle ages until the industrial revolution. Much like peasants weren't allowed to own a keep or raise steeds and arms, high nobility wasn't allowed to farm or engage in merchant activity. The king tending his farm in fitting clothes, ad innocuous as it seems today, was a big breach of ettiquette at the time. Though the funny thing is... England dose not... nor... has ever had... the divine right of Kings. England's line of succession is rather complexes... as on the face of it its just a case of hereditary... which is what the Jacobite's calm... but when you look at the development of the English line of succession... you discover... like with so many things in England... its NOT just a case of hereditary... because of the Norman conquest. England was an elective Monarchy until 1066... what changed?... well the Witan cease to exist, so it became more hereditary... but... the Normans had NO fixed line of succession... it was up to the King to declare an heir... but this proved not to work as... although Henry I declare Matilda his heir... she proved unpopular and so we Crowned Henry's nephew... Steven... the only English King to be Crowned that name... and so England plunged in to civil war... called... the Anarchy... resulting in Steven's victory... but his son died before he did... so came to an agreement with Matilda that her... heir's and successes... will inherit our Crown... so that then starts the Plantagenets. It carry's on until King John... well all known the story... but 1215 is a false start... its the document of 1216 which is the one which all subsequent issues of Magna Carta are derived from... because you take out all the contentious parts out... it then becomes a sort of proto-constitution... and until Edward I... malleus scutulum... Magna Carta had to be reissue... what Edward dose is very smart... he then reissue Magna Carta in return for aid in our wars with the Welsh and Scots... he then setup Parliament... that's Westminster... to basically raise this aid for those wars... but... that's the origin of the English Parliament. Its his son Edward II that things get interesting... as Edward breaks his oath and pays a heavy price for it... he's deposed and his son is Crowned Edward III... its a this point that we got our Kings under the law... and we became a sort of Royal Republic... Richard II dose not realis this and is deposed for breaking his oath... and we then Crowned Henry Bolingbroke, Duke of Lancaster as Henry IV. Its Henry VIII that takes a bold step... which is that he grants Parliament the power to change the line of succession by act of Parliament... which like it or not... by Henry's Third Succession Act... it did legally legitimise both Mary and Elizabeth... at which point... it also excluded Henry's elder sister Margaret, Queen of Scots who would have been next in line. So I understand where the Jacobite's get their calm from... but... that act of Parliament has never been repealed... so despite what Jacobite's calm about the house of Hanover... they themselves have an odd definition of what is an... Illegal Succession... as by law... the Stuart Succession fits the bill of being an... Illegal Succession... the house of Hanover on the other hand... dose not... as it was by an Act of Parliament... the Act of Settlement 1701... which is way before the Acts of Union in 1707... and way before Anne's death in the August of 1714. At the end of the day... The King is who Parliament says it is through a line of succession... BY AN ACT OF PARLIAMENT... simple as... its ether that... or the divine right of Kings... and good look when you get a bad King... as I would like to see you try to justify their deposition and the Crowning of another. The English have Law... what do Jacobite's?... A short sword, and a lang, A weak arm and a strang, for to draw.

I think you've got "clowns" and "loons" reversed in the lyrics. It's "English clouns," which is pejorative, and "Irish louns," which isn't. The Scots word "loun" just means a person and isn't related to the word "loon," meaning lunatic in English. You might call an unfortunate fellow a puir loun. Also most Scottish Jacobites weren't Catholic that was mostly British government propaganda. The majority of Scottish Jacobites were protestant Episcopalians though there were also many Presbyterians who supported the Jacobite cause despite the connection of the Scottish kirk with unionism and general anti Catholic sentiment later. The most pressing issue for most Scottish Jacobites was the union and its abolition - they wanted a Scottish parliament to be reestablished and the Stewart monarchy to be restored with the pre-1707 three kingdom arrangement that had existed since 1603. The Gaelic Catholics in the Western Highlands were basically scapegoats in the end as the majority of Jacobite supporters came from the Eastern Highlands and Lowlands and were typically Scots or English speakers. In fact the Duke of Argyll reported in 1745 to the government in London that the situation North of the River Tay was so bad that the for every Scot in support of the union and the Hannoverian regime there were at least 9 opposed to it. Most people likely didn't care that much but it is telling that almost all Scots acknowledge the Jacobite takeover and paid their taxes without much fuss and didn't make much of an effort to resist it.

A duke insofar that he chose not to use the title of king as a personal preference. Technically speaking, Bavaria is a kingdom, and has been for all of modern history. Should he want to become known as “king”, he’d categorically be within his right to do so. And, as I’m sure you would agree with me, one could scant call a king a German lairdie.
