Well, the Angelsachsen (anglo saxons) were from Germany. There is no difference genetically between the northern Germans and English. The surname of Queen Victoria and the royal family was until the year of 1917 "von Sachsen, Coburg and Gotha". They changed it to "Windsor". WWI was a family meeting which went terrible wrong. The Jacobites by the '45 were mostly just anti-government aligned clans, not people fighting for a Catholic monarchy. Charles was famously willing---despite being Catholic---to commit to a Protestant Union of Crowns. The Presbyterians did call many of them popish, but that was in reference to the institution of bishops, about half the clans were episcopal, not real analysis.
