This song is about The Weeknd's relationship with Selena Gomez. They dated for a while, but broke up and I think she got back with her ex, Justin Bieber. There's a particularly powerful line where he says "I almost cut a piece out of myself for your life". Selena suffers from lupus and needed a kidney transplant. People have been speculating that line was Abel admitting he was willing to be a donor for her

Frank Ocean- Pyramids Edit: If you need ambient music with a bit of a punch, check out James Blake. He is HUGE now, doing work on Jay Z’s 4:44, Beyoncé’s Lemonade, Frank Ocean’s Blonde, and multiple other albums including doing most of the production on the Black Panther soundtrack. He has a lot of cool production and a voice that is smooth as silk.

INFO ABOUT THE SONG "Call Out My Name" is a intro track to his newest album called "My Dear Melancholy, " Which the entire album is about his breakup and relationship he had with Selena Gomez. The comma in the title suggests that the entire album is a love letter to her. This album uncovered a new side to Abel (The Weeknd), as this is the first time he shows his vulnerability in songs. In his previous projects he almost never showed emotions and portraits himself as a cold "player" who doesn't care. So when he came out with this album and this song people received it very well as they got to see a different side of him. Just thought I'd give you some story behind the song and his newest album :) Keep it up guys love the vids

You said at the beginning that he's not an upbeat singer, which is true for the most part however, probably his biggest hit "Can't Feel My Face" is a very upbeat straight up mainstream banger which I'm sure you'll like.
@TheOnlyGhxst6 жыл бұрын
He doesn't just write break up songs though, a lot of his songs may have that kind of "break up story" to them, but usually go a bit deeper than that when you read between the lines. For me personally just the ambiance of his songs is enough, even if I don't relate to the stories being told.

An interesting aspect of The Weeknd's music is the dark inspirations he has and the samples he uses in a lot of his work, with his first project, House of Balloons, sampling works by Beach House, Siouxsie and the Banshees + Cocteau Twins. If you guys decide to do a project-length review, definitely listen to his House of Balloons tape, which is the first 10 songs of his Trilogy album. Keep up the mad work, definitely see big things for this channel!

The woman he is referring to in the song is Selena gomez. They were dating for a long period and he feels betrayed by her because after everything he did for she just used him for emotional support while she was depressed and sick (she had a life threatning illness - which he also references in the song where he says "I almost cut a piece of myself for your life" because she needed a kidney transplant to survive). He also talks about how he fells that he was just a pitstop because not long after Selena Gomez got healthy again she dumped him for her ex Justin Bieber
