Good god. How am I just now aware of this person and how he breaks down these songs? This guy is awesome.

They should just do a massive concert where Chilly plays all of these songs and they wheel out the singers one by one to sing them.

Indeed. He's on the writing credits. Along with The Weeknd himself (Abel Tesfaye), Peter Svensson (of The Cardigans), Savan Kotecha (another Pop powerhouse writer), and Ali Payami (a prolific pop composer).

And people say that pop music is unintelligent. If it wasn't doing something clever to appeal to people it wouldn't be such a success. Okay there are a few exceptions, like Hotline Bling which was more viral marketing than music, but mostly there's a reason a hit is a hit.
@julienl72418 жыл бұрын
I really liked Hotline Bling, from the minute I heard it. The main beat, as I later found out, was actually a sample from a 70s classic, Timmy Thomas's Why can't we live together. And honestly Hotline Bling left it relatively unchanged, save a tempo increase and a bit of a tightening up. So if you don't like the beat, blame Timmy Thomas lol. Regardless, I think the song would have been a hit even without the memes, as it's super catchy and unique, compared to today's music anyway.

Beethoven's fifth did not cause a stir because the opening bar has no first beat... many previous works use motifs and themes which are rhythmically identical to that opening, including Haydn's work. Still love the video, but that symphony did not cause a stir for that specific reason...

Maybe these pop artist do strange things because they don't know what they're doing
@hkoxnw8 жыл бұрын
+patslam88 it's less about "know what they're doing" and more about being unconstrained by rules, I think. we live in an age where bedroom producers can be on the radio if they can make a great song. they do not have intense musical training, they have skill, an ear, innate talent, they've studied the music they love, etc.
@user-bf9lz6bh8j8 жыл бұрын
+patslam88 or maybe because they are told what to do

Drugs. They do these strange things because of drugs. Sober minds create shit music.
@jkman107 жыл бұрын
As other people in the video have stated, Max Martin had a huge part in this. Pop stars and rappers (unless musically talented themselves) almost always have a producer in the studio to write tunes. Max, Weekend and other producers worked on this to make it what it is.
@jkman107 жыл бұрын
That doesn't invalidate my point. Yes, everyone has producers, but not everyone hires a producer.
