It's basically a long, acid trip metaphor for trauma healing by focusing on your "inner child". It's a psych term and he shows this perfectly in the video. Healing your inner child is painful work and at times it feels like your tearing yourself mentally apart.

This video is based on The Weekend trying to escape his past or move forward in his life losing parts of his old self and towards a state of rebirth for himself and seemingly to be a better partner to his girlfriend i think or something. The inflatable Abel representing how big he got after After hours and him trying to move past that and the creepy girl representing one night stands with ''loose'' women and bad fckboy habits leaving them behind.

Hi Jon, I think that for the animation what they did was first to record a video in real action and then use it as a base when animating, since some movements are precise to how a person really moves, it really is a real gem and also my personal favorite song from this great album

Here In Canada on the day that Abel was meant to perform in Toronto and open the show, there was a nationwide signal issue mainly from the provider rogers which since you’re from the UK just pretend it’s like BT. So people with rogers couldn’t call, use TV, data, or internet. It also meant a nationwide issue with banking and debit machines did not work. The fact that the stadium was re named for the company Rogers is a coincidence but they could not scan any tickets therefor the show was unable to go through.
@chezhedXO
@chezhedXO 2 жыл бұрын
What I’ve managed to gather from the video: Very basic timeline of events: Abel is escaping the hospital he was held in, trying to get to his lover. He sees his arm getting torn off, making him realise his time in this life in purgatory is almost up; he jumps out the window (and lives, cos you can’t die if you’re already dead). Gets run over, the moth blows the woman at him. He inflates her and it turns into AH Abel, which could mean when he’s running away from it that he’s trying to escape the picture that he had branded to himself as an artist, the trademark red suit and such, but not sure about that yet. He falls into the sewer, walking along and the walls close in, allowing the demon haunting him to tear off his leg, reinforcing he’s running out of time. Ends up in the elevator, and his old body is deteriorating fast. He gets to his lover’s door just as he runs out of time; he’s too late, and is doomed to repeat the cycle of purgatory again. These are what I’ve gathered; pure speculation of course, let me know what you guys think :)

very good theory, i won't be surprised if we got Here We Go Again... mv, because like you said his old self died and baby is born(which means rebirth). And Here We Go Again looks like he had to try again
@aryanjohnsharma
@aryanjohnsharma 2 жыл бұрын
Love how this all connects to everything that's happened before. Most of the references are from the After Hours album, like Abel coming out of the elevator is a reference to After Hours and In your eyes. The mask and the fallen head is a reference to Too Late. Him walking in the streets as a cartoon is a reference to Snowchild. The whole video is about being scared to show your true face/true feelings/true self to someone for the fear of being rejected. And throughout the video, Abel is in fact, being rejected by all the women who see him, the woman he likes included. The whole theme with the insects is also a metaphor of festering wounds, decaying bodies/ things but then "coming out of your shell" and starting anew, heal. The Abel we see at the start is old!Abel. He's close to his own metaphoric ending because of old/frail exterior caused by his inability to show his true self to those he loves (including his fans). He's not really old, he's like "I'm close to the end" emotionally, but he can't take it anymore and the armor breaks and shows his inner child, the part that he is hiding but that is also making him feel pain/like a monster. When he turns into a child, the festering wounds turn into something new. It's a butterfly metaphor. The butterfly is not beautiful at the beginning, then it comes out of its shell and finally turns into something beautiful and new, and spreads its wings to fly. I believe that's what Abel is implying with this video. He's opening up to us but he's also hinting that his music is ever evolving, something that heals him and that enables him to show his true self.

The Chicago show was truly unbelievable. A few things worth mentioning: 1) At the open of the show, Abel was wearing a similar mask as to the one he's wearing in this video. 2) The butterflies/moths coming out of his face in this video, possibly related to "Moth To A Flame"? 3) The origin of the mask came from the end of the last music video "Out Of Time."

3:31 I think the kiss scene it's symbolic of you have this beautiful person on your hands but it's goin away, you give her all of you (literally kissed her snd turned into him), but that also translates to all your flaws and parts or your personality that reflects on the other person, figurative and literally making her a completely different person.

I attended the Philly show whilst also on a micro dose of shrooms and let me tell you, it was magical. All the lights shooting up into the beautiful night sky (i had nose bleed seats alllll the way up) and the view of Philly lit up from the stadium was cool! Overall he killed it and he did a really cool light show that included everyone in the stadium and it was pretty sick. I loved every second of it 😆 I kinda wanna go again and get closer seats

( someone else's comment ) he is going through his own process of purgatoty, when he woke up he was trying to commit suicide and letting himself go, his arms and legs that he lost mean the pieces everyone was trying to take from him, then he hit the ground as if it was a shocking scene of reality, the after hours character showed up and kept getting bigger but that white monster was the true face of it and when he tried to hide everything started closing in on him. Somehow he made it to her ( heyon ) in out of time music video but she was scared of him and she closed the door but if she waited seconds later she would have seen young Abel that represents his true self pure, beautiful and scared. Thats the real him
