I think this song has 2 meanings (as most of his work). First, the title is a reference to a 1987 movie called "Less Than Zero", staring Robert Downey Jr. In this movie the protagonist has an addiction to cocaine and lives the fast life, but it ends up catching up with him. And even when he tried to make some changes in his life or thought about them, he falls again and again into his addiction. His close friends try to help him and give him advice, but he is the only one that can make a real difference in his life. So The Weeknd is acknowledging that he will always be that person that falls back into his ways despite the help he gets, because they can't fix him. And cocaine has always been a part of his work (like in "Twenty Eight" or "Can't Feel My Face"). The second meaning I think goes back to his lack of confidence (like shown in "Wicked Games") and his search for validation (on "How Do I Make You Love Me"). So he is saying that he will always be inferior, or a negative, and he can't get that feeling out of his head, because it has been with him all his life. But maybe there's some hope in the song, because he is accepting this part of himself, and isn't trying to hide it or fight it anymore. It's the first step to changing.

Yeah def references the movie or the book-Written in the 80s of course. And yeah, this song brings my tears out. It is about a man who feels so broken that he believes just trying to love him, will destroy his love. A woman maybe he even doubts he can love, and is almost glad but sad than she won’t stick around for his ruin.
