She's adorable!! My pet duck recently died recently. I've been depressed, but now I finally have the courage to get a new pet. I'm planning on a pigeon. I'd like to know the breed of tallulah as well as the recommended age to get them.
@animalpeople880
@animalpeople880 2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear about your duck. Tallulah is a rescue fantail. Fantails are really beautiful and sweet, but they have a lot of health issues as a result of the intense inbreeding (similar to pugs) so I’d recommend getting a rescue/Rehomed one. Also be ready for some potentially hefty vet bills. The most important thing age wise is to only get one after they are fully weened from there parents. They tend to develop significant behaviour issues when raised by humans. Aside from that it doesn’t really matter. Younger birds will have less baggage and likely be quicker to adjust then older ones, but I know enough people with the sweetest senior rescued feral and antisocial young ones to feel like personally, life expectancy, and the humans ability to work with them plays a bigger role. Tallulah was 1 when I get her (they sexy mature at 6 months so she was firmly an adult). If there are pigeon rescues in your area they will know the personality of each bird and be able to help make a good match.

We need evidence that Tallulah hasn't been taken hostage by the algorithm! I rescued a pigeon the other day - a trapped wing situation. All went well. A very patient and calm pigeon. Maybe do some YT shorts of Tallulah just saying hi? With a bonus pigeon fact?

@@animalpeople880 It is that time of year again when the less fortunate pigeons come to me. Winter comes along and I get stragglers spending overnight on my balcony. They choose me. I have a heavy heart. Loving pigeons has its upsides and its downsides. There might have to be burial services, which is quite difficult in a city. Anyway, last year, during this situation, I sought out guides on how to care for pigeons, leading me to your channel. We will see what happens this year, and how many have to be given room in my 'hospice'.

Hi Eden, many thanks for sharing your life with Tallulah. Fist of all I really like the respectful and caring/loving way you handle Tallulah. Would you like to make a video how you trained Tallulah to wear a diaper? All the videos I saw the birds have not been happy to put it on. Does Tallulah wear one in the house? I could not do it, when my bird does not feel comfortable to put it on... So I would appreciate some help. Many thanks Sylvia

I have lots of debris on my balcony from the 30 or so pigeons that accumulate there, hoping for their breakfast arriving. I do get pressured into feeding them, just so they can leave. I hope you see the error in my thinking. I do have to tidy up the balcony and, after watching your video, I will be putting the 'guano' to good use. I have been wanting to plant some flower seeds - nastursiums etc - in one of the pots on the balcony, so the laziest way I can do this is to just put the detritus from the pigeons in the pot, on top of the soil that is in there, with the seeds and to see what happens. Of course the pigeons will want to pech the seeds out, but I have a hanging basket wire frame to put over the pot. This hanging basket had been bought earlier to protect the feeders I have for the bluetits and sparrows, at an earlier stage of the arms race. Over time my feral pigeon visitors have gone from thieving flying rats to absolute beauties in my mind. Pigeons are so gentle and deserved of our love. Anyway, more videos about pigeon facts, please!

Hello! I have some questions about how female questions lay eggs, 1 do they get attached to their unfertilised eggs and become agressive to people who go near them? And how often will she lay eggs, i really like your videos by the way!

Ello, generally it’s every month. And they do get somewhat attached to there eggs and will try and protect them, until it’s been a while and then if they haven’t hatched they’ll just move on and plop out more eggs! They bites won’t be as bad as say a parrot, maybe a bruise If that. But you have to make sure there getting enough calcium! Other wise they might experience some problems with laying the eggs. If you have any other questions I’ll be glad to answer! :)

CAN YOU MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW TO PROPERLY TREAT BIRD LICE? I just brought home a couple month old bird and using sprays and borax bath doesn’t seem to be working. You rock. Ty!
@gr33ndiamonds72
@gr33ndiamonds72 2 жыл бұрын
Actually an easier solution would be to clean your bird cage, toys, food and water bowl every single day because bird lice come out of their feathers in the day and they will suck ur birds blood at night. Pretty easy to treat but if left untreated- it could be the demise of your bird.

I just got myself a diamond dove, I would love to know some tips since not much info on taming doves are here on the internet... is it the same as pigeons? I will be following your guides that you have available definetely! But I would love more guidance, she is supposedly a female, but not 100% sure, I got her just 2 days ago, they told me it's a female, she doesn't coo much so I am inclined to believe this

@animalpeople880
@animalpeople880 2 жыл бұрын
@juliebarks That must have been quite the shock! The most important thing is to provide a supplement that contains both calcium (essential for making healthy eggs) and Vitamin D3 (to absorb the calcium). A supplement with a broad range of needed vitamins and minerals will support her overall health too. I’m currently using Zoo Med Laboratories Avian Plus Bird Vitamins, but there are many good brands to choose from. Hari Prime Vitamin Supplement for Birds is another one a lot of people I know use. Regardless to brand just add it to her food as instructed, I add a drop of olive oil so I can stir it and have it stick to her seed to make sure she eats it. Having the right vitamins and minerals with help her avoid health complications such as egg binding. The eggs mustn’t be taken away from her (doing so will both cause a lot of stress and stimulate her to lay again too soon, which is too much pressure on her body) let her sit on them until she loses interest, that could be anywhere in the ballpark of two weeks to twenty plus days. She’ll likely have a period of time off the eggs (how long that varies between birds) then the cycle will start again. I highly recommend keeping a log of when she lays, how many eggs, and when she loose interest. That will make it much easier for you to tell if something is wrong in the future since you’ll know what her normal is. If you don’t want to risk an egg breaking you can feel free to buy or make (out of white air-dry clay) some fake pigeon eggs that you can switch out. Just warm them up first (even just in your hands is fine) so she’ll be less likely to notice. If she’s a single bird and you are her mate then she’ll need you to assist in egg care duties (as both partners care for eggs naturally and it’s too much for one bird). May birds will want their human to cover the eggs with their hand to keep them warm while they go and eat, poop, preen, bath etc…. As they typically won’t do any of that will on the eggs so breaks to do so are essential. You can try putting a dish of food and water right by her nest to see if she’ll eat while on the eggs, but not all will. Give her as many breaks as you can so she doesn’t lose weight from not eating enough. Some pigeons I know are fine to leave the eggs unattended and hang out with their human on their breaks, but that is less common. Heads up, her poops are going to be way bigger and likely stinkier due to being held for long periods, that is normal. I hope once the shock wears off you’ll be able to enjoy having a female, as in my experience they are pretty fantastic. Let me know if there are any other questions I may be a lot of help with and congrats on your new girl!
