I really want to own a raven or crow because they’re sooo smart. But obviously they aren’t very normal to keep as pets and they need to be outside and stuff, which is sad. Yes I cannot understand why people hate birds so much!! My mom thinks birds are scary which I can understand. Her dad had a parrot who’d always attack her and seagulls can be aggressive when you’ve got food. But how the hell can you be scared of a pigeon? They’re so derpy when they strut around and when they tilt their heads and look confused. They’re just awkward little doofuses, not killers...

I have two ringneck doves and intend to get pigeons someday after they've passed on, so really I was mainly watching this video to just bask in the glory that is pigeons. One addition I'd like to make though for anyone out there who is considering getting pigeons: they are pretty hardy birds, meaning they don't get sick easily, and due to them being so domesticated and used for racing, shows, etc. there is an enormous online community of pigeon fanciers out there who can give you advice or point you toward help for any problem you may have. This has been immensely useful in keeping my ringnecks healthy due to so many vets focusing mainly on parrots (or worse: exclusively cats and dogs) and thus not always being prepared for columbids.

Pet pigeon owner here. Great video, and beautiful birds, but some considerations: "They are not very loud...The loudest sound they make is their coo." Not quite. Our male's nesting call is, bar none, the loudest and most annoying sound he makes! It's similar to a rhythmic hooting sound. If his loudest sounds were cooing and flying, we wouldn't have a qualm. But that nesting call, my goodness. Not conducive if you're on the phone or a Zoom meeting. "The pecking is literally a little pinch." True, if they're young and don't have any beak overgrowth. Get your bird a brick or something to use as a grindstone. Otherwise, the pecking is more of a vice grip than a pinch and can even break the skin. "They're not destructive animals." Not quite. Our birdie loves to destroy our plants. He will identify any plant, fly to it, uproot it, make a scene, dance around in victory as he leaves a wake of chaos in his path, leaves & soil all over the place. Otherwise, this is all very accurate. Even with the aforementioned, we love our birb.

15 years ago I used to have a tan colored wild pigeon, my brother brought it in cause the bird was injured, and when the pigeon healed we eventually kept it as a pet, but one day the pigeon flew away...which was for the best tbh considering the bird was born in the wild and now was living in captivity, and I’m sure the pigeon missed the great outdoors, we named her camila (we weren’t sure if it was a boy or girl) and one vivid memory I remember is when she used to fly around the house, without fail, she would always fly to my mom and sit in her head 😂 (my mom has curly poofy nest like hair)

Tyler, I had a young bird show up at my door after a wind storm, peeping and flapping. I got her dry, and fed her baby bird food from a silicone boba straw. Seven days later she can fly quite well and can eat and drink on her own. She LOVES her cuddles. She is quiet, cooperative, affectionate....I'm making a pidgeon home at the treeline behind my house. Not that she isn't sweet, but the landlord......so she isn't a PET, she is a bird that happens to live in my back yard. That I feed. And let sit on my bed and laptop. That likes to ride on my shoulder to go for away and SEE things. I am totally AMAZED that she has learned so very much so quickly!!! She apparently wants to drop her poops in a relatively specific place, which is appreciated. How LONG does it take for a pidgeon to get their "adult voice?" Once she stopped peeping for food, she seems to use it to mean "pick me up" But no other vocalizations yet.

I don't feel I can have birds with my cats and all but I always wanted a pigeon since rescuing a spent racer years back. I get visited by a family of wild wood-pigeons here though! They are so smart and loving to each other.

This makes me miss the pair of mourning doves that nested on my balcony last year. Such a wonderful quarantine watching this couple raise 3 sets of babies.

Great video! Million dollar questions for parrot owners, do you ever have your parrots out with your pigeons? My parrots are out all day long, as long as I am home, they are out of their cages. Guessing pigeons & parrots wouldn't do very well together...

Parrots are notorious for snapping pigeon’s beaks off so it’s not safe to have them out together.

@@MaddieSmith That's enough for me to say no pigeons for me. 👍

We rescued a baby pigeon on Aug. 1st. Actually 2, 1 of them didn't survive. I ground up some dove food in a coffee grinder and added some water. I used a small saline spray bottle, cutting the tip to make it bigger, then dripped the food into their mouths however I could. Wrapping a towel around them to keep them still, it was difficult prying open the mouth with one hand while dripping in the food. I had a better time just dripping it along the edges of the beak where the bottom and top come together. In a day or two, one of them started eating and drinking on it's own. Now, it's been 4 wks. and we're enjoying the bird. I can handle the bird a lot of the time. I suspect the bird is male, because of the sassiness that Tyler talks about. Very territorial of his habitat. Loves to be free in the living area.
