Pokemon amiibos could be an amazing addition to the main series games. Let's say i scan a lucario amiibo. It could increase my shiny odds for any fighting or steel type pokemon, or it could create several fighting or steel type outbreaks throughout the map. Or it could do one (or both) of those for specifically riolu or lucario. Im shocked they never implemented this, or any other function, in the games.

Pokemon amiibo cards would be great but if you want an amiibo that could store Pokemon you caught in game then a “pokeball amiibo” that worked like HGSS’ pokewalker would more likely to happen than “let me store shiny Lucario in Lucario amiibo”

Its a good thing Gamefreak didnt use these Amiiboo to lock out events and/or Pokemon in the main series games. It would've been rough.

Pokémon has such a large amount of amiibo, and yet they barely have anything to use them in. I believe that this is mostly down to the fact that Pokémon feels more disconnected due to being a 2nd party. Sometimes, it feels like a miracle the franchise is in Smash at all. I get the sense that Pokémon being in Mario Maker was due to some sort of honor. The game was also an anniversary title for the game that put one of their parent companies on the map. Not adding Pokémon would have felt more disrespectful for that title than any other.

Possible concepts for mainline Pokémon game Amiibo uses: 1. Provides egg of the Pokémon's species. (Would not work with Mewtwo) 2. Provides special held items that are are exclusive to the line. (Would cause inequality for non-represented starters) 3. Provides regular items that fit the Pokémon's theme. 4. Cosmetics (Box wallpapers, Rotom phone cases)

I don’t even open my amiibo anymore. I used to open them for display a couple years ago but I don’t have the space for them anymore so I just keep them sealed whenever I do get a new one.

Probably has to do with the fact that Pokemon is really more so under The Pokemon Company and feels like its own separate entity. Nintendo publishes the games and makes some business decisions with them, but Pokemon as a whole functions as its own thing, which is kind of why you always see characters like Mario, Link, Kirby, etc all together for Nintendo adverts and merch, but never really Pikachu or something in the mix.

Maybe a hot take but I honestly don't care at all about the functionality of amiibo. Like, it's a nice bonus for them to do stuff in game, but I'm buying them because they're really nice, collectable figures for a very reasonable price
