That's a good point I hadn't thought of, the original prototype for the 3DS used GameCube hardware and one particular game to show off the glasses-free 3D. That game was Luigi's Mansion, so ending the 3DS portion of the direct with Luigi's Mansion is a nice way to come full circle with the 3DS family.

Luigi's Mansion port is on 3DS specifically so that you don't need two consoles to play it and Dark Moon. The point here isn't "better-looking Luigi's Mansion", the point is "the Gamecube title was forever ago, there's been a sequel since, and a lot of people who've played the sequel won't have played the original due to likely not having a Gamecube. Especially since the Gamecube sold poorly while the 3DS has a massive install base."

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was announced a month after Returns was ported to the 3DS. There's absolutely nothing preventing a new Luigi's Mansion from being announced here. If anything, it makes it more likely, as if Nintendo was trying to gear up fans before the big deal.

Dark Souls isn't all that hard, that's just a marketing angle to appeal to hardcore fans. The games are challenging but fair and shouldn't give you much grief if you just use careful planning and critical thinking to get yourself through the tougher situations. I think you would really like the game, Arlo, it would bee great if you played through for a review, and maybe even when on to play games from the rest of the series.

True, there are some nasty parts. But I think that Blighttown won't be nearly as much of a problem in the remaster with a steady framerate. Those two archers ARE pretty bullshit, and the Bed of Chaos as well, but most of the time Dark Souls adheres to the "tough but fair" rule. The later entries in the series are arguably even better in this aspect than the original, I hope that Arlo play the first and gets hooked enough to try out the rest. A person's first playthrough of a Dark Souls game is always special, I would love to see a let's plays of the games on his second channel.

This is true. They're hard when you're first getting used to the mechanics (like timing dodges), but after that, they're only as hard as you make them. Which is great game design, imo. I've done so many different challenge runs on the Dark Souls games, getting a little bit better at the games each time.

Absolutely. Splatoon has no microtransactions, no lootboxes, no subscription. They’ve been supporting the game and free new content for almost a year. $20 May or may not be too much for the content in the Octo Expansion, but it’s a drop in the bucket for what other multiplayer games demand of their players anymore in the same time period. Also, it’s optional. It’s a single player campaign and new tentacle styles. Everyone can still play matches together. Too expensive? Don’t buy it.

The reason they went straight for Fractured But Whole instead of Stick of Truth is probably because of the Snowdrop engine, which Fractured But Whole uses. It also happens to be under the hood of Mario+Rabbids. Ubisoft obviously has tested Snowdrop heavily on the Switch and it's probably a super easy port for them at this point.

BIS is pretty much perfect the way it is, the only thing I can think of that they could improve would be making you able to skip the minigames and tutorials like in the last two Mario&Luigi games. Yeah, they’re gonna add a Bowser Jr. thing, but it looks pretty much exactly like the Minions thing from SS+BM. The Minions thing was charming enough, but it never got me to believe that they were actually there during the original game, the writing was too inconsistent for that. Unless they actually do something with the Koopalings‘ and Junior‘s relationship in this game or actually reference the events from SS+BM and what Fawful did in that game, I doubt I‘ll particularly enjoy it, I’ll just play it because at least this series hasn’t gone Sticker Star yet and it’s really hard to find my kind of RPG. It will most likely just be in the shadow of „A Day with Bowser Jr.: Rise of Fawful“, though I would be really happy if the game proved me wrong once it comes out. PiT on the other hand is probably the most objectively flawed of the five which is why it is the one most in need of a remake, although I would probably like a DTB remake too just so I can skip all those fucking tutorials and fast forward through these annoying sections where nothing happens except some random character we‘ll never see again doing unfunny verbal humor. ( *coughcough* *The freaking relatives!* ) But Disney logic, I guess. They also only live action-remake the movies that were good and made them money instead of the ones that could actually use an alternate take or a second chance like Treasure Planet or Atlantis.

You have to also consider that splatoon is already 1 year old, with free dlc all the way through, so a $20 expasion that gives you more story, character models, and gear, which may include weapons too, is amazing especially in tgus damn age

Miguel Ocampo It was a necessity, the only new thing was Salmon Run and its such a limited thing. It was such a copy and paste of the original. The DLC now makes the game a true sequel that it shouldve been at launch. If they were gonna do that I wouldve rather had a enhanced port so I dont have to buy a Wii U to play the original story and THEN release the FULL sequel complete with a permanent Salmon Run and all the story bits.

Absolutely nothing is for sure about it being a 'new' game and at this point, it's a little foolish to actually come to that conclusion. All of Nintendo's released material specifically says " the Super Smash Bros. series is coming to Nintendo Switch!" That's incredibly vague wording, and it doesn't mention the word 'new' anywhere. If it *was* a 100% new game, you would think they would be making that crystal clear in order to hype it, or even use it for year 1 hype like they did by announcing Metroid Prime 4. Coming out and saying its a definitive edition of Smash 4 with Wii U + 3DS content + DLC + some new things isn't going to get people talking as much as a new game *or the possibility of a new game*. Being vague as they are keeps the possibility of it being a new game alive, with the associated hype, whilst not outright lying or misrepresenting anything if its not. It absolutely could be a new game. But its impossible to state that it is one. We need more information.

Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS makes sense for a few reasons. First is 3D, the game was first being made with stereoscopic 3D in mind, they tried to make the Gamecube version playable in this way by including an overlay for your TV to give off the 3D effect, but this was incredibly cost inefficient and they bailed on that idea, but the game was built with it in mind, and now can finally be experienced in that way. And second, its just such a small game, it wouldn't make sense to release it on the Switch and try and charge full price, maybe they could try and sell it for $30 or $40, but it just wouldn't feel right for a first party game starring Luigi to be so small on a system like the Switch. And finally as you of course pointed out, they already have a Luigi's Mansion engine running on the 3DS, would be a missed opportunity to not just take advantage of that and get another game out for the system considering they do still want to give the 3DS some support (the system still sells pretty well, so I do get it).

This will get buried, but about Octopath Traveller and the name; i actually like the name because it tells you exactly what the game entails from the outside. Its a game, that has 8 paths and you travel, perfect. It could help a JRPG get more attention wothout generic fantasy name that says nothing. If you look at other classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy, the name made sense the first time but now there are more than 15 final "Fantasies", or Bravely Default, which while better, it still doesn't tell worthwhile information from the outside and only makes sense once you play it. I would say names like Dragon Quest are fine, but probably keeps its name for brand recognition like Final Fantasy

ZELTINGLE it already got a port. Plus tales has a new game coming out for switch anyways (That will probably be announced at the tales festival this year). Symphonia already has it's love in all the escort titles, collete and lloyd are huge in Asteria right now. Lloyd is important for rays plus kratos and ricther are mains for mirage prison. Symphonia chronicles was what we got for the anniversary, I doubt we'll get anything like that for a while. If anything, we'll get an xillia remake or something for the switch down the line, but symphonia already got it's remake and port so. It's going to be a while before they revisit symphonia. But I don't expect it to not get a remake again. Symphonia is the biggest tales title so we will get something for one of its anniversaries. Just it will be a while. Until then, they will continue to give it way too much love in the escort titles.

I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I am more baffled by that Nintendo is making a Bowser's inside story remake. Why is Alpha Dream sitting on their laurels remaking old games instead of making new Mario and Luigi games? I enjoyed The superstar saga remake however that game is 15 years old and is quite nostalgic for me. Bowser's inside story, on the other hand, is only 8 years old, and can be played on the 3DS via backwards compatibility with DS games. The original superstar saga, for GBA, can't be played on 3DS. It makes sense that they remade superstar saga, but it seems way too soon to remake bowser's inside story.

I think a cool idea for revealing fighters in the game would be the same with the inkling girl. The character(s) would be doing what they usually do in their game and then it goes dark, they turn around and there’s the smash logo. I heard this idea on GameXplain, but I think another cool idea is to zoom in on recently released characters. For example, let’s say Shadow and Dr. Eggman get announced as new characters (they’re both from the same universe). When it goes dark and the smash logo appears, instead of showing Mario and Link, they show recently announced characters, which in this case would be the Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl. It would kind of be like a “Join us or perish” type of thing.
