I'm a movie theater owner, sadly i have to tell you that except for the deadpool one, none of these are responses to the trend of the dune popcorn bucket. We had to order them last year

I think he was just covering the ones that were more elaborate than usual to try give their movie a similar bump in revenue that the sandworm did - but yeah wolverine mouth was the only one that was very obviously capturing that same vibe (I found it extra funny it was intentional doing that the dune one accidentally did). Deadpool is known for crass humour and being meta so it was legitimately very smart marketing. Xeno has always been shaped like that but they didn’t need to make a full head into a popcorn holder so I think there’s some argument to be made it was perhaps hinting it had the inverse use that both the dune and wolverine ones could potentially be used for.

I’m certain this trend started because Tokyo Disneyland has been releasing crazy popcorn buckets like this for decades. Then other Disney parks started in the last few years, as well as Universal. Movie theaters must have seen the trend and jumped on it.

In Latin America we are having buckets like this in cinemas since 2016. The first were thebatmobile for Justice League and the Infinity Gaunlet for infinity war

Popcorn buckets with the logo has been a thing for years, but 2024 started the weird head popcorn buckets, as far as I know.

What about the Borderlands' Claptrap bucket? that was the highest quality bucket ive seen, with being a full on figure with the details of a high quality figure too that is made of metal and was hollow. even came with an attachable antennae for display purposes.

Unfortunately me and my friends went to the Borderlands movie because they’re huge fans of the games but the popcorn bucket they got was actually pretty cool, it was basically just a big metal Claptrap figure with a working light and everything, pretty decent Borderlands merch despite how that movie turned out

as crazy as this trend has been, I think it lasted beyond the Dune bucket because the movie industry saw it as away to get people to watch their movie in a cinema. These things will have played a small part in people going back to the cinema, and not streaming at home.

I got the Helms Hammer bucket for War of the Rohirrim. It was expensive and difficult to eat out of, but it was still kinda fun; especially whenever it appeared on screen. I'm NEVER doing it again, but I don't regret getting it. I have it hung on my wall now. lol

Two other popcorn buckets that stand out to me are the ones for Nosferatu and Lord of the Rings War of the Rohirrim. Nosferatu is a little more basic being a recreation of Count Orlok's sarcophagus (it's just weird that an artsy remake of a silent horror film even got a popcorn bucket) whereas Lord of the Rings had a freaking war hammer that flips open at the top of the hammer; I've seen people use it in a theater lobby, it's as impractical as it sounds.

You missed my absolute favorite bucket this year; Lord of the Ring’s: War of the Rohirrim It a scalded model of the Kings war hammer where the the popcorn was in the hammer head along with a long (and somewhat inconvenient) handle. I DESPERATELY wanted one but they were sold out.

vemon bucket looked cool but the movie was bad. the fact that it was going to be the last one and they decided to take a focus away from Eddie and Vemon and onto a lady who utterly doesn't matter. wish they focused on the duo since they are the face of the brand and what everyone looked forwards too. the bad thing seems like they wanted to move with a main female instead which wouldnt of work because she is not a memorable character. me and im sure many others would of given up on it since it basically seems they dont understand their audience. it would of been so cool if the third movie was with spiderman because that would of been so awesome!
