The Weirdest Reasons Contestants Were Eliminated From Hell's Kitchen

I said this during the Strange Ejections video, but I’ll say it again here: Ashley had a more tragic reason behind her early elimination on All-Stars. Turns out her grandfather was on his deathbed when she left for All-Stars, and she barely had the chance to say goodbye to him by the time she returned from her short run. Now, that may not seem like a big deal on the offset… except Ashley was also likely still recovering from her brother’s untimely death during her original season, something she didn’t learn about until after the season finished filming. So two back-to-back family tragedies can really take their toll on someone, especially on a show like this. Now, one thing I’ve asked myself is, if this really were the case, why not give Ashley a more dignified send-off instead of throwing her under the bus? Why not give her the send-off Jenna Morasca on Survivor All-Stars, Adore Delano on Drag Race All-Stars 2, or Chris Mendonca on the very next HK season, when they voluntarily left due to their personal reasons. Honestly, I don’t know. Maybe it was because they already had an unusual elimination the episode prior, where Ben was eliminated from the winning team due to his poor health, and they wanted a more natural elimination for this season? Who knows, but Ashley didn’t deserve to go out like that, given the circumstances.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Bret in pain from his slipped disc is one of the hardest moments to watch from the entire shows history. you can really feel the desperation and pain in his voice and one of my family members had a slipped disc and it is so unbelievably painful i cant believe he didnt just break there and then

If I remember correctly, in Season 18, he got sick again and he almost left but he kept determined. He's like Robert from Season 5 who left because of his ilness only come back at Season 6 and has to hospitalized but he comes back only to get eliminated properly in Season 6. Meanwhile, Jason went from getting botted off too early on Season 9 only to come back healthier and becomes Season 12 Runner-Ups

@@margarethmichelina5146 The poster ignored an important part of Brett's problem. He fell skating and had a slipped disc. Since he was with Hell's Kitchen at the time, his treatment options are limited. Spinal injuries can extremely painful. You do not want to move at all.

Not weird, but in the earlier seasons, a contestant named "Ji" slipped on some oil and spranged her ankle. She went through the whole service in pain but stuck it out. She was also the first ibthink that was able to keep her jacket. Its been over 10 years and im still eaiting for her to make a come back because she was a pretty damn good chef from what was shown.

Also Ji became the first non-Black Jacket contestant to ever keep her jacket as Chef Ramsay honored her for her courage to speak up of her injury but still keep going until the end of service. Ironically in the same episode, that's the beginning of Lazy Lacey who whined, cried and made a lot of excuses. If you remember that Colleen and Lacey were the bottom 2 and I think Chef Ramsay will keep Lacey for so long for drama and eliminate Colleen on the spot because he has a grudge to Colleen for teaching Culinary while she has no Culinary experience and charge her students 300$ for 3-4 hours. Just like how he can't stand to see Tavon the 22 year old Executive Chef who sucked at Opening Night.

To those who hadn’t had a slipped disc or herniation/stenosis won’t know that kind of pain. And it can be aggravated indeed by the most mundane of circumstances. I felt for him. But happy was able to redeem himself in a future season. Ramsay’s final comment on Shayna as he hung her jacket rubbed me the wrong way, sorry. Sounded a bit sexist.

I developed scoliosis due to a inherited genetic disorder, and it shifted so far, so fast, the surgeon on my case didn't even think about putting me in a cast, unlike my younger sister (although hers is way, way. worse). That was in c. 1992. I'm almost 80% certain that the fibromyalga I have now stems from my surgeon having to had to fuse my L1-L5 vertebrae. With out a daily cocktail of painkillers, including codeine, morphine, and a benzo, I wouldn't be able to get out of bed ... One time I had a bad head cold. Forgot, I think two days doses, which given the half-life* of those medications, was a bad move. I just rolled over in my sleep, and was jolted awake by searing agony, which almost made me scream at 4am ... somehow I managed to take a day's dose in one go, and after yet more hours of agony, by which time dawn had come, I finally fell asleep. I hate the fact that, at 48, I am practically medically retired. I hate not being able to work, because of the constant pain, even _with_ the medication I'm on, as doctors are wary of prescribing anything stronger than I'm already on. And I hate relying on Social Security. But what is has given me is an insight into pain of the unimaginable kind. I can imagine the level of pain of a slipped disc, or any kind of herniation/stenosis (funny enough, I had open heart surgery, aged five, for pulmonary stenosis), or anyone else with chronic, acute, pain. The only pain I can't imagine is 3rd degree burns, nor the pain the Soviet firefighters, and nuclear technicians, went through, in their last days, as the result of the Chernobyl accident. I was only 12, almost 13, at the time, but even then I knew what they were going through was horrific, and beyond human imagination ... [*= yes, prescription medication does have a ½t, due to how the liver 'processes' it/them, and the kinetics within in the nervous system, having passed the blood-brain barrier ... hence why clinical biochemistry has overlaps with organic and physical chemistry, and a bit of inorganic chemistry as well ...]

So, I’ve had this theory for a while about Ashley on All-Stars. If you notice in the first episode, she gets a ton of confessionals and storylines being set up for her. There’s her being reunited with fellow cast-mates in Jared and Manda, her friendships outside the show with people like Jennifer and Robyn, and her being an HK superfan who’d probably know everything about all her competitors. I have two theories on this. 1. She got all these confessionals to make up for her short run on HK, and thus they wanted to give her as much screentime before she’s sent out. 2. She was originally meant to be one of the main players on the season. Like it may have originally been a two-horse race between her and Michelle for the end. It wouldn’t make much sense for her to have these storylines set up, only for it to end in (what the Drag Detective calls) narrative blue-balls when she’s sniped out early. So maybe when she’s booted second, a lot of the storylines that were originally supposed to go to Ashley ended up going to Michelle instead. That’s just my crazy theory brain thinking, but who knows.

Chris was not kicked out because of using French. He was kicked out because of two things: 1.Michael was scared of him and used that kind of strategy. 2.Chris had talent but a huge attitude problem. The fact that he thought he is the best and said it to everybody is why I would kick him out a lot earlier. 2.Carolann also the same kind of problem. Only Chris didn't showed a lack of care to his team and she did. I knew Sheyna is not the sharpest tool in the shed, and that she will eventually be eliminated. However Rosan did much worse that evening and should have been kicked out first. And Bret left because of a spine injury and spine injury is no joke. I injured my spine 4 years ago and until today I am in agonizing pain. So please don't laugh on him because it wasn't the dump.

I think Chef Ramsay will not tolerate anyone who didn't do anything through service especially showing it since opening night just like how he eliminate Chrissa in Season 14 and Elliot in Season 19 for not doing anything in opening night. Even when Chef Ramsay isn't telling of your station like desserts or appetizers, you should help your teammates. There are a lot of people who already moved on appetizers helping their teammates.

i feel for Brett honestly. Degenerative disc disorder is a terrifying thing. My wife and her 2 brothers have it and discs can slip for any number of reasons even if they are trivial. My brother-in-law had to have his lumbar permanently fused because a disc slipped while he was (either) getting in or out of his car. Terrible back pain, leg when 100%numb and he couldnt walk for months.

I have an interesting idea for a video that I've been thinking about a lot recently and I'd love to hear you talk about it: A comprehensive breakdown of how dominant the season 14 cast was - That season produced the best winner and runner-up combo in the show's history in Meghan and T - The winner of Hell's Kitchen All-Stars came from that season (Michelle) even if she was outperformed by another individual who was ALSO from that season that we all agree should have won (Nick) - Season 14 contestants showed up in 3 separate seasons, with a total of 7 original cast members receiving a black jacket at some point - A majority of the All-Stars black jackets were season 14 black jackets - Even Bret, who left the original season due to injury, came back and placed 3rd in a stacked Rookies vs. Veterans season - There were way more solid/strong chefs than there were weak ones in season 14 The list goes on. It really was the most talented group in the show's history and I'd love to see a longer, video-essay type video about this topic as the longer you think about it, the crazier it actually is. Love the content always!

Nah, Season 6 is even better... You had 3 chefs (David, Kevin and Robert) who had the kind of injury that would have ended any other contestant's time for good, and not only did they come back but they starred... That season also had the most unfair eliminations besides All-Stars and probably Ramsay's worst decisions ever

If Chris had never told Chef Ramsey that he was an "Executive Chef" in a smug way during the Signature Dishes, then I almost guarantee that Chef Ramsey would of treated him much better than he did, but i'm still not sure if he would of been spared from elimination at the expense of Elsie. If Michael had decided to nominate Jimmy alongside Chris instead of Elsie, it would be almost a foregone conclusion that Jimmy would of gone home and Chris would of gotten a Black Jacket following the next service. Ramsey does not think fondly of pride in one's own performance!

After his trainwreck performance, he set up his own Culinary School, which currently has overwhelmingly negative reviews with critics complaining that the classes were "bland" and "uninspiring". When you put together his disaster of an episode combined with the universally negative reception of his Culinary School, you can safely make the assumption that Tavon is a scammer.

To this day, Koop’s elimination pissed me off. Chef Ramsay made it crystal clear “I don’t give a fuck what happens in the dorms” so I HOPE that Koop’s rage wasn’t the prime reason why Ramsay eliminated him. Yes, you can argue that his rage wasn’t professional, but you can also argue that it shows his dedication and passion to win the competition.

I agree, and I get your point. Koop's anger came out of passion and frustration with Paulie. Koop waited until they were in the dorms, a place that isn't supposed to be considered. Ramsay himself said, "I don't care what happens in the dorms. Breaking and throwing things in anger is done by Ramsay all of the time! Yet, he's still the leader. They're following his example in the kitchen. Koop threw or broke nothing in the kitchen. Paulie is bringing that up at elimination? That says Paulie is not a team player! Grown-ups resolve things among themselves. Outside help commonly done when people reach an impasse. That makes Paulie a tattle tale. In mob terms, a rat! As far as Paulie, the man outside of Hell's Kitchen, who we didn't know? Likely, a good man, so R.I.P. Paulie.🙏

@Yannitron 9000 Koop did. Koop was one of the exceptions on that Blue Team who wasn't a part of their "He Man Women Haters Club!" Many chefs on that Blue Team were. Paulie was. Like Elise and Sabrina from prior seasons, Paulie would whine, make excuses, and do anything to anybody to win.

I’m so glad Koop wasn’t apart of the Blue men team’s toxicity, as he and Andrew were definitely two of my favorites from that team. It’s also great to also say that we’re only acknowledging Paulie in the show because outside of Hell’s Kitchen, when the producers aren’t editing footage or scenes to make the contestants as unlikable as possible, I’m sure (hope) Paulie is a good person. But yeah, if Koop’s rage was the reason Ramsay eliminated him, then that’s not cool. Ramsay should have honored his word. Also, did Paulie actually pass??

Regarding Ashley, she did make mistakes in Season 17. In episode 2, only was she just standing there not helping Barbie, she later brought up a lobster wellington so overcooked that holes started to appear(said wellington was part of the reason the red team got kicked out that service).

SPOILERS for Season 22 Episode 5 I could argue Melissa could go on here too. Her elimination was like a mix between Ashley on All-Stars (where she seemed sorta checked out in that service) and Koop in terms of being upset with how her team has been performing up to that point. She didn't have an awful service that night either, but she was bizarrely eliminated on her first time in the bottom. People have argued that Raneisha could've been nominated instead of her, and that Sandra (who'd been in the bottom previously and had shown signs of weakness) could've gone instead of her. So it felt weird to see Melissa, who'd started off as an early frontrunner, get chopped so early and in such a strange fashion.
