To my niece Lorrie Adams: You asked me one time about my experience in government boarding school. I've come to the point in my life when I can talk about it. One thing I can say is that government boarding school taught me self-determination and independence. I can describe my being there at the government boarding school as being cultural deprived. One of these days, I will sit with you and tell you my story. Awtawishaash

I am an African American and can relate to this history and experience of my Brothers and Sisters, First Americans, from Turtle Island because it mirrors and is part of my own. I have been told that the mother of my grandmother is a Native or First American. My grandmother was an orphan so this is the story which was passed on.... Yes, you remain...... as we remain. This is really a joyful time. YOU demonstrate the power of the ancestors and their indomitable, unconquerable spirit that makes YOU great! To quote Jessie Williams, "Just because we magic, doesn't mean we not real!"

Thank you so much for this. My grandpa lost his three oldest siblings to this. His parents hid the children on an island. Doesn't mean he escaped alcoholism. He went on to be a WW2 hero and a chief, and gave me my own native name. I'm so happy and devastated to learn of all this, and I will share this video with my friends.

My paternal grandfather, who adopted and raised me, attended Indian boarding school. He, too, spoke of the beatings and abuse he experienced in the boarding school. Indeed, trauma is passed from generation to generation. While watching this video, I was instantly able to forgive family members. Endotmoyan, ode mno bmadzewen.

Thank you so much for testifying against the Schools and the people that did harm against you. We need those stories in Canada, and I don't think Canadians know how much of an impact that this has had on our Culture. People say "Get over it" "You get this and that" Little do they actually know what goes on in our communities across the Canada... Across the USA too. Our brothers and sisters all over N. America have suffered. They need to know our history and stop being so ignorant.

By educating the youth and others today. Let them know the truth and keep it alive. I have many white friends who ask me the same question. You have a great understanding of the seriousness and pain this has caused, you're already on the right track. It is people like you outside of First Nations that will help this healing process.

Thank you for this. My wife and I watched this and the film was correct when it stated that many people had little or no knowledge of these events. I felt a little ill at the beginning when 'Manifest Destiny' was talked about. I remember being taught that Manifest Destiny was a good thing, God given, it was our right. As whites we were not told of the genocide, at least when I was in school in the 70's and 80's. I am so hopeful that the truth becomes known and that the healing continues.

Where I grew up and still live I saw Western movies and was given the Hollywood-version of the "Indian"' a bloodthirsty and fierce person with a lot of pride and attitude! As I became older I realized that this could not be the right depiction of them, so I started to watch a lot of You tube video's about "Indians". As I watched them, I became more and more aware of the other story, I know better now, but not everything. Where once there were simple living people, there are now people stricken by grief and not knowing what their real ancient ways were, troubled by alcoholisme and drug abuse. It is, even to me (a dutchman), very sad to see what went on in those days, in the name of government, Church and profit. Thanks to those videos, I will teach my children that my country once was a victim of ww2 and recovered from it, but that a Holocaust has succeeded in another time and another place. I can also tell them that things like alienization of children from their roots, concentrationcamps and the belief in the supremacy of a specific race is not an invention of the nazis. I thank all those people who uploaded these very informative and educational videos.

This is the most unadorned, potent account of this horror I've ever seen; my heart is aching. This should be required viewing in every school in America to awaken understanding in the minds of people whose lives have been so safe, so secure that they can't conceive of something like this happening. This isn't ancient history! It continued in MY LIFETIME. Thank you for recording this; it can't have been easy for any of you. That these people survived at all shows incredible strength and courage.

This is a beautiful documentary. The truth will set you free. I can't believe your government hasn't apologised or let alone openly acknowledge for the abuse of your people, (and I've just put that lightly) that has and still does today affect your lives. Don't let the government hide you away and silence you!!!!! I live in New Zealand and the natives were treated very similar to your elders, the Europeans tried to kill their language, culture and traditions and also their identity (forbidding them to wear their cultural tattoos one in particular the moko on the face) very rarely will you see that nowadays. If or when you do.... The women are beautiful with them. You can tell they a very proud to wear them. This Country's government had apologised to my people in Samoa for the dawn raid's that occurred here against my people and for The "Mau" the massacre of the Samoans back home. But thats another story cos anger is starting to set in. Anyhow be strong and have faith because there is hope. There are plenty of people who are supporting you and believe in you. :) If the Maori are still thriving, and the Samoans..... So can you, and you will. God bless you.

At 65 I find out my GGGranmother Tommista Edenshaw a Chief's daughter from the Haida Gwaii. While my Grandfather Captain James Douglas Warren was picking up body's around Van Island in his Steamships re. SSBeaver, Barbra Boscowitz, SSAlpha, Tyrone etc. My Aunt Sarah Warren a Matriarch of the Songhees & King Freezies GGGrandaughter Re. Douglas TREATY'S. She was the 1st person to win back the right's for THE TRADITIONAL MASK DANCE in 1950. Also the 1st person in CANADA to have open ❤ Heart Surgery. Then we have Prime Minister Trueadu calling a Truth & Reconciliation Day on September 30th & he D's Off across 🇨🇦 Canada to Tofino on Unceded Lands yet & another lie. I'm so happy my school Mate from PORT Alberni Judith Sayers spoke out about his inhumanity & no kindness on this I experienced too being Metis & dam lucky I lived with my single White mom as it was easy for me either during the 60's scoop. Canada should come clean and look after the First People & shut down Immigration till you do as your hypocritical creeps.

This is so honest and so truthful and I am praying for this Healing process to grow and increase and that families will all rise again and Be Healed and then help one another to grow and transform and be strong again and better than ever one could imagine. Let LOVE GROW and this documentary is a wonderful testimony to their inner strength and survival ability. the sharing stories will help them heal but the world does need to hear these testimonies and every Senator needs to see this Documentary and every school in the United States yes they need to show this and learn the truth for what was done so unjustly and with evil intent to all the Native American people and not hide the TRUTH that GENOCIDE was its GOAL. But they FAILED because the people are still here, maybe a remnant but they can grow again and all they need now is their land back or what is left of it if any or the long overdue COMPENSATION from the American Governments up until 1993. Good luck and be blessed and Healed and protected from all evil.

Well I mean every single word. I have no native american in me and to be moved like this was so rewarding to me. I was told by a medium that a native american is with me and to not be afraid because they know I am trying to help. I do not know what that means but if there were some way I could help I certainly would. My heart just aches for the children and the families that were torn apart. And then nothing becomes of it. I think a holiday should be set aside and a day "For the Children."

My grandmother Ehel (Hill) Wilbur was put in a boarding school when she was a child. This is a long awaited awakening. The tragedy and the road to recovery recorded here tells the story of what is wrong with the world, how our societies are collapsing under the weight of past tragedies, how today's tragedies will affect tomorrow because they go untreated, unresolved and unforgiven. The difference between the American Indian account is that they are actively working to heal individually and as a family. Healing is the critical part of the cycle that is sadly lacking across the globe. I have absolute respect for these wise spiritual people, they will succeed. As for the rest of us, maybe someday we will make a start, for now we are deliberately blinded and confused by the words and actions of those in power so much so that sadly we have a long long way to go.

I am forever grateful for those who shared their stories. My ancestors would not speak of things in the past so I am learning truth from you who were willing to share your experience. I understand the pain of relieving tragic experiences as I have had to take a similar journey to forgiveness. We are now free to heal, to teach, so others can heal and be free. I have believed for a long time that forgiveness has to be the key to restoration and reconciliation but could not picture how that would look or where to begin where it concerns our culture. This documentary is a wonderful tool that I will embrace and use in teaching as a social worker. Thank you to all who have committed to this labor of love for future generations!!

Following a conference, where J. Carlos Rivera spoke and introduced this documentary to me I showed it to one of my Addiction Treatment Groups. I had one male in the "group" last Friday, he is Native American, enrolled and was raised up with exposure to some Traditional Ways, with direct Elders who are healers. He found this film moving, it helped him to understand his elders, their demeanor and behaviors. His mom, and grandparents were placed in boarding schools, when he asked about their experiences they would not speak, and often leave the room. I found this experience in group to add even further depth and personal meaning. He is usually very reserved, stoic (shocking right...jk) this session he spoke more freely than every before, not only did he gain insight into his elders, he took it even further and examined his own life. His family fought and did keep their language and ways. He raised his own son speaking only their traditional language; and did not learn English until entering school :) I think everyone should watch this !!!

Literally not knowing this about our past as a people. When growing up mainly as a teenager i would kiss my mom on the cheek and tell her i loved her, she had no emotion as if i didn't show her genuine love but I knew her childhood was terrible. She got fists to the face by her auntie and would get rapped by her uncle. Rest all their souls they are not here today but its important to share the truth, learn from it and do better. My mom did her best and im so thankful she did, so i can for my kids.

Thank you for this. Thank you very much! Today is a good day; I see a people rising, a people not defeated. Hurt people make excellent healers....I wonder if not your path through depth and darkness will in the end bring healing to all.... There is a passage in the Bible where people say to The Nazarene;" but Lord, have we not worked and prophesied in Your name?"...and He will say to them; go away from Me, I have never known you". And it is these people, who do not understand, neither earth nor water, neither Creator nor fellowman, who need healing the most. I pray you will walk blessed and strong, my spirit walks with you. Knowledge of our past will help our children to heal. We have carried that burden from the past. No one is immune to the effects this has caused in our tribal nations. Megwetch for bringing this information together in such a respectful yet honest way. Please continue your good work and call upon us when there is need~

Unbelievable, shame shame shame on the Government. I have not cried so much as I am this morning in a very long time . U-ne-hla-nv-hi s-gi-nv-wa-ga with the opportunity to get to Colorado to the teaching and training for White Bison for you know what is in my heart, And I wonder if all my pain and trauma has been influenced by my elders, elders who were killed on the trail of tears? My own past addiction and anger "INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA" Finally I feel I am beginning to understand !!

The phrase "final solution" came decades before the Third Reich's usage. It was uttered by Duncan Scott to justify the higher rates of death of North American Aboriginal children (50%) compared to First Nations children raised in their own communities. "It is readily acknowledged that Indian children lose their natural resistance to illness by habituating so closely in the residential schools and that they die at a much higher rate than in their villages. But this does not justify a change in the policy of this Department which is geared towards a final solution of our Indian Problem." -Duncan Campbell Scott, Head of Indian Affairs (1920)

It wasn't just the Catholic Church. The U.S. government is responsible. They authorized the first of these prisons for Native children. Look up Carlisle School and Richard H. Pratt. "Kill the Indian to save the man."

It needs to be said that the Roman Catholic church does not reflect the values and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible. The RCC is in fact APOSTATE! They worship idols, have zero assurance of salvation, believe that they have to sacrifice Christ every Wednesday to obtain forgiveness, pray to Mary a sinner like us, and rest their fate on their works! Ask a catholic what the gospel is and you'll see a deer in the headlights. My grandmother Doris went through all this as well but said that the enemy is not the white man, but are the Demonic Principalities that rule this world and Satan is our true enemy.

Happen in Canada too. Last Residential School closed in the 1999's on September 30th, 2021 will mark a day of remembrance called truth and reconciliation day. Remembering those who survive the schools and those that didn't come back.

I have the blessings and honor and pride and love of our culture, and heritage. I knew my great grand parents and grand parents and was raised in our Native Ways...I know my/our ancestors through them and they passed down love and wisdom. They had pain and tears that didn't always fall because of the wrongs, that have never been made right. We are making things right! NOW! facebook.com/phmpamerica.org & facebook.com/healthyhorizons.guru Unfortunately I have an evil mother, who I do not condsider family...she went the wrong way. There are also a few in our wonderful tribes that also went out of harmony and the wrong way. I hope they come to their senses, but until then, they are a dishonor to us all. I was told by my people that I honor our tribes. I know that's true. I've been picking up where Tecumseh left off for a long time, and it's Amazing! I was victimized for years, many of us have been, but I cherish my Native American Love and Pride and ALL of my true Warriors/Loved Ones/Brothers and Sisters! Bless Us All!

I read Hitler studied the way the Us government stole the Indians land how they stole the children and put them in schools and indoctrinated them He learned methods to use in the future with the Jewish people He also studied the occult His evil actions and the US government’s actions are appalling I’ve always felt hurt for the natives I even worked on a reservation where I as a white female felt prejudice I have at age 79 studied the native culture and married a Sioux man and saw how he had so much trouble in the white world It’s heartbreaking We all need forgiveness and try to appreciate each other’s cultures Im so glad I’ve watched these videos My prayers go to those stolen children and the families

Canada has a shameful past as I just found out during COVID that my GGGram a Chief's daughter from the Haida Gwaii was internerned to Kuper Island. She survived to be the oldest Native to die on Vancouver Island in 1931 at 104. Or my Aunt Sarah Warren a Matriarch of the Songhees & was King Freezies GGGrandaughter { DOUGLAS TREATY'S}She was the 1st person to win back the right's for THE TRADITIONAL MASK DANCE in 1950. Also 1st person in 🇨🇦 CANADA to have Open ❤ Heart Surgery. Then we have Trudeau fly across Canada to Tofino for a Vacation on a Day he called TRUTH & RECONCILIATION DAY says it all that this is still being a slap in our face after finding 6000 missing children with 100 more Reservations to go yet then may these Immigrants might realize the gravity of this genocide & colonization they have not been told this true story that still continues.

Thanks so much for sharing this. We are spirits inhabiting a physical body to experience this physical world. When we "die" only our physical body dies. We can incarnate into any life form on any planet. Wars are very bad thing because when we "kill" we don't kill any spirit but instead we "silence" them and torture them and us and they look at us in confusion and ask why did you do this to us what have we done to you? Countries who have "killed off" their native peoples think they can forget the past and they are all dead and forgotten but that is not true at all. The natives still look back and wonder why we still have not said sorry so that they can forgive us. All the continued killing in today's wars (Iran, Iraq, so on) only add to the number of tortured spirits living among us and because we subconsciously feel their pain we are tortured as well and get into asylums and alcohol and put on drugs because of this "invisible" torment. When we all learn this truth and communicate our sorry to these spirits and hear back their forgiveness only then can we all heal. Psychiatry is of no use because it only deals with the physical. We are spirit. We can only be healed as spirit. You have expanded my understanding of my emotions on how without physical death we can still be "killed off" my loosing our identity and connection to family and forget how to hug. And without drums to take us to the spirit world that is apart of all of us always. Every word you spoke effected me deeply. Thank you.

we had schools in California. My grandfathers mother , born in 1892, was in the Sherman School, she was sold off for livestock and masonry work to her Basque husband the turn of the century at age 15. Please join us in the opposition of the canonization of Junipero Serra, who brought slavery, rape and genocide to California Native peoples.

The cruelty these children experienced at the hands of people who were supposed to take care of them is just absolutely horrible. The whole concept of stamping out culture just because it's different than the majority is disgusting. It hurts my heart that anyone would do something like that to innocents.
