You can get the Evogrip S16 which is an excellent successor to this layout. The can opener and reamer are swapped for the Victorinox versions, but other than that you get the same Wenger design with a different handle design and a locking main blade.

I have a Wenger that is near identical. It has a small blade instead of the nail file. I got it over two decades ago and it was my very first knife.

Always good to watch your videos. I keep hearing some cooing in the background. It sounds like homing pigeons.

I have my father’s old Forester and it has a small clip blade and no key/lanyard ring. If it had that and a nail file it would likely be my favorite one as my Sportsman has no scissors.

My man Dan! Another superb video. I can’t thank you enough man for resparking my interest in SAks. Just added a NOS Scientist, Spartan, Sportsman and modded a tinker into a whittler. Now I’m onto finding some 84mm and other rare two layer models like the Mechanic Small, original Golfer and others. My edc lately has been a sportsman and rambler. The best vids on the tube dude. Many thanks. Peace!

That’s great, Bill! One 84mm that would be a grail find for me is the Artisan. Let me know if you find one! Thanks for watching! Cheers!

Great comparison Dan!👍 I also appreciate a nailfile on a Sak. Lately i'm hanging to the evolution 14, basicly the climber with a nailfile. Cheers 👋

Cool knife Dan. Thanks for sharing. I have an Evogrip 18. I had to check the saw on it to see if it had the nail ink and it doesn't. Apparently Victorinox eliminated that when they bought out Wenger?? Otherwise it's the same style saw.
@swissarmydan93543 жыл бұрын
Yeah, apparently Wenger stopped including the nail nick after a while. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

You made me drag out my box of Wenger’s. 😀 Your new, old knife must be an older version. Of the 8, 85mm Wenger knives in my collection with saws only two have nail nicks, one of those has the dog leg can opener. the one larger 1950's Allsport also has a nail nick on the saw. You might check SAKWIKI it’s possible you can date your knife by when they stopped using the nail nick. My early” Major” model with the dog leg opener has non-serrated scissors with a spring like Victorinox and the nail file is a real file not the emery board style they later went too. I see the new Cadet alox knives have gone back to the actual file design.

That Major sounds awesome! Wenger has had some great models/designs over the years. Thanks for watching! Cheers!!!

This is my favorite SAK configuration. My preference of the 3 1/4" length makes me wish Victorinox would expand on their 84mm range although I know that is highly unlikely. At least they make the Evogrip S16 and 18 from Wenger, just with swapped out reamer, can opener for the Vic versions. They maintain the Wenger saw, yet deleted the nail nick and extended the tip to make it easier to access.

Cool knife. Thanks for sharing. I do wish Victorinox would incorporate some of the classic features of the Wenger knives on the new evo knives such as the claw can openers which I prefer and find easier to use to open a can simply because I learned on a Wenger as a kid. I too find the nail file more desirable than the small blade but I find the new style on the evo series that faces outward to keep from scratching the main blade inferior because they made the abrasive surface too small to be as useful to accommodate for the outward facing nail nick. Is it just me or does the overall quality control of the evo series seem lower than the traditional Victorinox line? For example then scales seem ill fitting. Is that intentional? Does anyone else feel that way or am I wrong?

What's the Wenger version of the victorinox hiker model called?
@ronbisti43523 жыл бұрын
I think I’m going to look for a Tinker 84mm with the square Phillips. Do these even exist?

Yes they do! They were in production until the early 80s.
