Synopsis:
A series of gruesome and inexplicable murders plagues a small town in Spain. Against this backdrop of murder and paranoia, traveling vendor Manuel Romasanta seeks the affections of Barbara, a woman who has lost several family members to the unknown serial killer. Barbara, however, quickly begins to suspect that all is not right with Romasanta, and he turns to an unbelievable story to explain his murderous actions--he claims to be a werewolf.

Agreed.Strangely every time I go searching for that particular movie I find the naff versions they made afterwards.The original was way better and the girl in it was a brilliant character,rather than a screamqueen.

@@boogieknee3781 I managed to find a DVD on a market stall quite a few years back! It was the origional Warlock with Julian, Richard E Grant & i think the girl was Lori Singer but im not sure! Its a while since i viewed it & i cant check now as im not at home as i write this. Its always been one of my favourite films along with another of Richard E Grants called Withnail & I Which is so funny & bonkers! But a superb film with cult status It was another dvd i got from my market stall, i dont know where the heck the guy got his films but he could get any obscure film you asked him for & they were all new & sealed dvds Id tried everywhere to find the film The Rose with Bette Midler Yet within 2 weeks hed found me a copy! Love that film I also got my Sweeny Todd with Johnny Depp & Alan Rickman at his stall & the wierd film Perfume ( the book Perfume is much better than the film but the film is very good, very different) Im sure you would be able to find a copy of the origional Warlock from somewhere! I liked him, too. I see him every once in a while in some odd movie. Perhaps, I missed some, but I don’t think he’s ever gotten the recognition that he deserves. Guess that’s the way it goes in life. I saw him in Warlock when I was a kid.

Julian Sands was the BOMB as an actor! One of the best. He had a class and grace onscreen that every actor doesn't possess. He'll be sorely missed. I first saw him in American Gothic. One of his earlier films. It was very different. Erotic mostly, but a good spooky atmosphere. He was very good at horror. I think he could have pulled off any acting assignment, any genre. Guy was good! His end was sad to me, but I guess he died doing one of the things he loved which was apparently hiking.I was saddened when it was finally confirmed. Rest In Peace.

Very entertaining period movie! Werewolf to man transformation is grisly. Serial rapist-killer who's the werewolf, in Spain. The legend of Roma Santa. Enjoyed how a 'scientist' and detective team together to solve the numerous cases of mutilated dead bodies that had all their fat removed.
