@Doc 23 we are not God you should not be judging. Yes choices do have consequences. But a type of life style is not always by choice. Instead of judging try sympathy and understanding. Men pay for sex is that wrong?? But if a woman chooses to be paid for sex that’s wrong?? Sounds like a hypocrite to me.

One of my biggest fears in life is that I will be kidnapped and someone will tell my family "she's an adult, she can disappear if she wants" when they all know I would NEVER willingly leave my kids. It drives me nuts that police ignore missing person's when the family is screaming that something is wrong, as if their family doesn't know them better than some officer. Imagine all the lives that could be saved or bodies laid to rest if cops didn't brush off missing persons reports....

Something notable I want to add about Det. Ida Lopez...she spent a significant amount of time collecting dental records of the missing women and collecting familial DNA samples prior to the discovery of the grave sites. It assisted with speeding up the identification process once the women were found. This allowed families to be notified sooner. I see a lot of hate towards police here in the comments, but she cared greatly about these women.

Could be! But that area is really used as a dump/ people go shooting in the area/ 4 whealing i jog there all the time. Its huge! I live in that neighborhood and right across from the memorial is more dessert! 118th street turns and pases through a part of the 🏜 circling the city. Turning into different streets. But ppl get lost out there, drug deals. I lived in the warzone too before i moved here not that scary of a place just high on crime. I was so sure when i was younger that it was somone who was coming into town during the state fair. People from all over the state come to Albuquerque during that time. But i never heard this case being called the bone collector, Grew up hearing ppl just saying West Mesa murders. Just last year there were two boys found in the dessert thanks to Snap chat. The kids had gotten involved in a drug deal or something and they killed them out there, not before one of them opened there snap and recorded a bit. . Its sad beautiful place to live, so many places to hide your dirty secrets. Oh the pictures in 7:16 is a park across my house its where the ancient bariel was found so only a block or so from the memorial i was convinced it was more victims it was so close.

The 2 things that you asked about that I immediately thought I may know answers to are, 1. The photos from the man in missouri are of woman using heroin and nodding out. I feel like that's why they worded it as "people who usually don't have those pictures taken". They look like heavy drug users from bad neighborhoods IMO. And the 2nd is the tree tag and why the man may have been visiting a nursery, he may have bought things to mask the fact that he may have been buying bags of Lyme to help break down and speed up the decomposition process. It would be interesting to know if any chemical tests were done on the soil from the grave location. But idk if that makes sense to anyone else but both of those things came to my mind right away when mentioned. Thanks for another great vid!!

I immediately thought that too.. they didn’t look dead.. they were nodded out on heroin. It can, to the untrained eye, especially in photos, look like someone is “dead”.. but they were just women with serious drug problems, and I pray that they’ve been able to escape that lifestyle- because it’s literally about 3 in every 100 that makes it completely out. That’s an interesting point you brought up about the Lyme to help break down the decomp under the tree. Do you think that would affect the growth of the tree in any way, having that much Lyme underneath it like that? (If that’s what happened?)

All-day long, it happens/happened so often that it was a pretty common plotline or cheap joke in 80's and 90's tv and movies. I believe they ended up legislating it so that the penalties for disturbing desecrated ground are so steep that people tend to report it now, it may even be a claimable loss clause in insurance for new development funding. However, if you are not a developer with a stalwart reputation to protect...

I have heard of this happening because the builders don’t want delays if they have promised a certain date to buyers that their house will be completed. It’s terrible but it happens. This happened to someone I know when they were building - they found hair that was braided when they were digging out the backyard to level it. The police came out at night with a big spotlight on the backyard and an investigation was done. The story we were told was that it was a painter that decided to hack off his hair so he braided it, cut it and threw it in the backyard. Sounded suspicious to me, but that was what they came up with.

It’s so sad how society determines that some lives aren’t as important as others.
@margaretrodriguez4866
@margaretrodriguez4866 3 жыл бұрын
That is not my way of thinking, however, all lives are important but if you put yourself for whatever reason is into a position that is detrimental to yourself, for me, it is difficult to expect everyone to put their time, money and effort into searching for these people when they go missing. I know that many will think I am a terrible person but not everyone has the same life style or even way of thinking. I've had close relatives pass away from drug overdoses but it's not the dealers fault that my own blood decided to use. Everyone wants the government thus tax payers to conduct these extremely expensive tests and searches for people who did not even care enough about themselves. I'm not heartless and I love true crime shows but I guess my mind can't work that way. I feel more for children and mentally challenged people than those who choose to put themselves in danger. I know it's difficult on the family and I understand completely what the losses of my 3 siblings did to my parents and the heartache I myself have. But your life, your choice, my life, my choice not to go out there searching for people that put themselves in those positions.

This case has been around my entire life and when I was a kid when I first heard of it everyone thought it was a crooked cop. APD is a shit show as well so it’s not unlikely. Now that it’s been dormant for a while I think the killer either retired from killing because of the attention, or died. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was some old cop or rancher that would abuse these women and girls and then kill them.
@Skittenmeow

I'm only part way through but I completely agree. I was also immediately thinking a cop could be heavily involved in the drug supply to these women and actually assisting in causing their lives to fall apart. A woman-hating cop who sees them as weak and susceptible to addiction, then causing them to have to go into sex work to fund their addiction. Once they're really separated from their families and particularly vulnerable he could take out his misogyny on them.

The construction workers saw the remains. Just like when archaeological remains are found, work must stop and therefore money is lost.
@PiXie232
@PiXie232 3 жыл бұрын
The construction workers never even saw the remains!! (Or if they did, it was purposely kept quiet by their bosses.) It was the neighbors walking by with their dog, and their dog saw a bone sticking out of the ground, which led them them to walk over and investigate further. When they realized that it may be human remains, she messaged her sister who was a nurse and sent her photos of it, and she confirmed that it was, and they called the police immediately. The construction workers had been digging and disrupting that area for a while, and unknowingly working over that mass grave site for god only knows how long, while *apparently NO ONE NOTICED a damn thing! Bones were being churned up constantly, that’s why most of them were scattered over the entire plot, although luckily, a few of the bodies were fortunately still found intact enough for the most part- fairly undisturbed. They all either somehow REALLY DIDNT SEE *ANY* BONES AT ALL OF THOSE 11 WOMEN (which I find VERY HARD to believe) when they were digging up that area... super suspish.. OR, they were paid or threatened to keep their mouths shut by the higher ups, because they were told to, so they could continue with their work so they wouldn’t be shut down *just for the sake of an investigation*. Because you’re right.. they would’ve lost a lot of money if they would’ve had to have stop for an investigation. But.. then the recession hit so it was put on hold anyway, so it didn’t matter. And yes, companies find it irksome, even downright ridiculous, when archaeological sites or remains are found, or major murder investigations such as this case, are blown wide open, right on their property where they happen to be building. But that’s the risk these companies willingly and knowingly take, and it’s not very often that it happens. That’s what insurance is for. This happens all the time in the UK when they’re doing renovations and they stumble on very old archaeological sites that have been hidden underneath the building that is being renovated, and they have to halt everything, sometimes for a few years. This is nothing new. And the company is protected by insurance, and the culture will be saved, and if it’s a crime, such as a rape/murder, they will have a much greater chance of bringing the victim’s family justice, by finding out who did these heinous acts before they get covered over with concrete. Money isn’t everything. There’s far more important things in life.

Serial Killers like this just don’t stop killing. They move to another state, or he moved the spot that he buries the victim. They just don’t stop, it’s compulsion. Not at-least until they die. I just don’t think it’s a pimp. A pimp wouldn’t have killed 24 of his girls. That’s money he’s not making. That’s the work of a serial killer with an mental illness, whom as Danelle said knew that killing sex workers and prostitutes he would get away with it.

My thoughts exactly. Often when someone has the compulsion to kill they choose sex workers cause they view them as less and it somehow makes them feel that their crimes aren’t as bad or are justified. You are right the compulsion doesn’t just go away. The hunting ground changes or the dumping ground changes. This person is likely still out there and still killing if they are alive.

They do sometimes stop... Something in their life or body (brain) changes, including possibly going to jail or being in a hospital Different people do the same things for different reasons. That Joseph Blea sounds like the kind of person who wouldn't have the self-control to keep himself out of trouble. But someone like Golden State Killer absolutely can. Or they get old enough that their brain changes, or they aren't strong enough to overpower people anymore. Age is a huge factor in likelihood of someone committing violent crime

Off topic, but kinda - _sorta?_ - tangential: A few years ago, I was on holiday in an extremely remote part of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, off the north-west coast of Wales here in the UK, with my lovely, adorably scruffy "Heinz 57" rescue dog, Tarka. We’d been exploring a wonderfully deserted beach, & headed into a parallel vast area of undulating sand dunes, as Tarka was running hither & yon following the enticing smell of rabbits [don’t worry, she had neither the speed, skill, inclination or "killer instinct" to ever actually catch &/or despatch any poor innocent creature - it was all about being a devoted canine connoisseur of scent trails for her!] when she suddenly stopped in her tracks, & became absolutely fixated on one particular spot & frantically started digging in earnest. I rushed over to see what had caught her interest, slightly worried that she was going to get herself wedged in a rabbit burrow (bless her, she wasn’t the most svelte of dogs!) when to my shock, I realised there was what looked like human bones, possibly a rib cage, partially sticking out of the ground! I’m still not quite sure precisely why I did what I did next, but I joined Tarka’s excavation efforts, & started scrabbling away at the dirt myself, trying to uncover more of the bones, which were clearly the remains of someone, or "something," WAY too large to be a regrettably deceased bunny! I guess I was worried that if I immediately reported our findings to the police, & it WASN’T a human skeleton, I’d feel like a massive idiot! Of course, if it WAS that of a murder victim, I could have been destroying vital evidence of a crime scene; yet at the same time, I was desperately looking for some kind of reassurance that it was in fact that of an animal. Well, _FAR_ too late to cut this unnecessarily long story short, [my sincere apologies!] but after approximately 20+ minutes, & several torn, bloody fingernails on my part later - the ground was deceptively compacted & hard - I’d exposed enough of the bones to confirm to my own satisfaction that the skeletal remains were thankfully *FAR* too large to belong to a person, but were instead those of an entire adult cow! [Tarka, by this time, seemed to have come to the conclusion that I’d totally taken leave of my senses, & having become somewhat bored with digging, was off delicately sniffing some beautiful oxeye daisies - then urinating on them! - before continuing her rabbit-scenting quest!] According to the lady I rented the cottage from, it turned out there was a local cattle farmer who was in the habit of dumping any diseased, deceased bovine bodies in the surrounding area, rather than informing the vet, DEFRA, or disposing of their carcasses through the usual legitimate channels - possibly dating back to when we had a catastrophic foot & mouth outbreak in Britain in the early 2000s, or perhaps from bovine TB, which were reportable diseases that might have lead to his entire herd having to be put down - so he just "hid" them off his property, doing his best to cover them up...wild scavengers, & the shifting nature of the sand dunes, did the rest. So whilst I was inordinately happy & relieved nobody _human_ had been horribly murdered & dumped in this isolated place, for those 20 or so minutes when there remained in my mind at least, the chance that it *COULD* be the skeleton of an unfortunate individual who’d met with a terrible, untimely fate, I was definitely _STILL_ considerably freaked-out! I can’t imagine the absolute horror of randomly accidentally stumbling across a genuine serial killer’s body dump site of just _so many victims_ of this unsolved case, in such a remote location in West Mesa. Apologies once again for this no doubt needlessly lengthy, rambling missive! Please accept this virtual trophy by way of a reward, in the [let’s be honest!] _EXTREMELY unlikely event_ that anyone actually had the patience to make it this far, & the fortitude to read all this to the very end!!!🏆 PS: Kudos to Danelle for concentrating so much of this upload’s runtime on the lives & hardships of these vulnerable women. It goes without saying that in a perfect world, it shouldn’t have to be necessary to "humanise" these victims in the hearts & minds of members of the general public in order for them to care, purely because of their addictions & hence subsequent sex work. *ALL* of these women absolutely mattered, & are _truly deserving_ of justice & compassion.

I live in Albuquerque. I love the way you have given these women a name! These women were someone's daughter, sister mother, friend etc not just drug addicted sex workers. I went to school with Julie Nieto and her sister Valerie they were quiet and somewhat shy. These sisters were extremely close they were always together growing up. Sadly Valerie died of a drug overdose in 2007 in a hotel room in the war zone. These two women were just like everyone else. Went to school and were good kids. You never know how drugs can affect someone's future. RIP Valerie and Julie Nieto.

This case has haunted me ever since I watched the Dateline on it. The cold case detective who first made the list of victims is such an amazing woman. My heart is broken for the families and I pray they will get answers. It’s infuriating to hear how the cases were initially treated because of the victims being in sex work! Thank you Danelle for sharing their case ♥️ Love your new work space.

this makes me feel sick -- it is so horrific to consider how many women may have been spared if the police did their jobs and treated sex-workers like human beings. i wonder if there is any evidence of the suspects interacting with each other and if they could have dumped in the same place and targeted the same women. thank you for a tactful and informative video

Very late, I know, but I’ve lived in ABQ for 20 years, and something that’s always been a problem is that the police here are extremely understaffed, like there should be more than twice as many officers for a city as big as ours. It makes it so there is always a massive backlog of cases that need to be investigated. Also, the west mesa is absolutely massive, and very impractical to search, making it an unfortunately perfect place to hide evidence

Thank you for your videos and for speaking up for all victims regardless of the job..... Also, maybe a bit of thought or insight on why the construction company may never have "seen anything" . Im have a degree in anthropology/archeology from University of Wyoming (lots of desert/plaind and old Native American burials around entire state) and something that was continually emphasized to us was that if an oil company, construction company, anyone were to stumble upon anything that looked archeological/historical/bones they were supposed to report it to the state. The state was then supposed to send out an archeologist to confirm it wasn't anything important. However, while waiting for the archaeologist and their report the company couldn't continue working in that area. So often, instead of stopping work when things are found (and losing lots of $) they just keep working and just don't report things. Could definitely have happened (or something like it) in this situation. The construction co could have very well been aware of the bones but thought it wasn't important and rather than risk being temporarily shut down if they reported it, they just kept working and kept quiet about it. (Construction co or any subcontractors, everyone would be aware of this policy). Not sure of the laws in AZ but I would bet they would be similar to WY because there is a lot Native American sites there as well

I'm catching up on Danielle's videos after recently finding her channel but I still wanted to comment. I believe that everyone is equal and every life matters. I feel disgusted that these beautiful women weren't given a chance to be looked for nevermind found because of how they were living their life at one point into time. These women are someone's daughter, Mum, Auntie, granddaughter etc and the family deserve to know where their loved one is. Anyone can get themselves into trouble and life can spiral. Everyone who says that won't happen to me, I'd never do that for money or it's their fault that they are addicted to drugs etc need to stop judging and focus on helping others who don't always have a soft place to fall. Thank you Danelle for telling the ladies stories now that they can't tell it themselves. I believe in heaven and that they appreciate you giving them their identity which was so horrifically taken back. I disagree. Due to a non-treatable condition I have, I sneezed one day and was in tremendous pain. I broke 7 ribs all in a line on my left side. I could hardly breathe. Because of this ridiculous "war on good people needing drugs" I was told to drink tea and relax. I had to go to a pain management doctor who would prescribe barely strong enough pain killers just so I could breathe because the pain was horrible. That was incredible unfair to me. Luckily, my ribs healed and I am better. But guess what??? I didn't become addicted. If you have an addictive personality, you'll end up addicted. That should not be held against me. Imagine excruciating pain every second of the day for months and being given basically no help. It's absurd. Drug users will get whatever they want, the rest of us, suffer.

Because that's what it sounds like. Addiction is a disease & anybody can become a victim to it whether you have an "addictive personality" or not. "The rest of us suffer" but drug addicts don't??? Whether it's legally prescribed pain medicine or illegal heroin, drug addicts will get their fill meanwhile there are other people with real pain suffering because of others. To judge me being blissfully unaware of what addicts go through is your ignorance showing. I have lost siblings due to their drug addictions but I do not expect other people who truly need medication legally prescribed to them for honest pain to suffer. The entirety of the war on legally prescribed drugs to those who honestly need it is absurd. No one should be forced to live in excruciating pain for months. I just moved from Albuquerque in April after living in Abq and surrounding areas after 12 years. It was just know as a female not to go somewhere alone. Always carry your side piece or some kind of protection. Even if you weren’t a sex worker. Abq is a sketchy area in general. Crime is high, drug use is high. I HATED going somewhere alone with my son. I almost always planned my trip with my best friend while my husband was in basic training. He joined the military to get us out of ABQ. 10/10 don’t recommend. And if you end up visiting for the international ballon fiesta STAY ALERT don’t be in public alone and don’t leave ANYTHING visible in your car, honestly I’d go as far as to lock your steering wheel with a bar lock just to deter criminals.

Thank you so much for covering this story and more so for giving these ladies identities beyond their line of work! I'm from Albuquerque, I've lived in or around the war zone most of my life. It's really sad and infuriating that sex workers are not at all on police radar unless they are being arrested. Unfortunately, this kind of thing hasn't only been going on between 2003-2006. Like I said, I'm from the war zone and I can remember stories of sex workers/addicts being buried out on the West Mesa since the late 80s early 90s. It's heartbreaking that these ladies are so looked down on or just plain looked over. I completely agree with you-no one should be judged by their work title and nobody should be deemed unworthy of basic human decency because of the work they do. Albuquerque is a rough place and most of us just do what we gotta do to survive. These ladies may have not made the best life choices but they were just trying to survive. Again, thank you for telling their backgrounds and I'm so glad to know they finally got the memorial finished. Honestly I never really believed it would happen.
