The main reason Season 2 was so awful was they rewrote many of the episodes as the series was coming out. Jonathan Nolan was actually quoted that they read fan theories on reddit, and when they got the big twist for episode 3 they had to rewrite it; as though its Westworld's job to outwit reddit. So they screwed up their entire narrative because they just had to fool people. Huge disappointment for Season 2. Hope they don't do that in S3.

I’m rewatching this now. The scenes with Bernard at the beginning of S 2 actually takes place after Dolores leaves WW, after she recreates herself in her own body. The dream about being on shore and the inconsistencies are part of Dolores re-imaging Bernard like she did she created him, it;s about fidelity ...not that there aren’t writing problems and inconsistencies. I don’t think at the end of the season you realize what is happening at the beginning of how the whole season is a loop

Julian Duran I meant the og show using the power of an HBO subscription as S3 is gonna roll out fairly soon. If you meant this video, I did re-watch this rant maybe 3-r months back though... this is a re-upload. After s2 ended Alt released this rant in 2 parts, which is why it has a part 1 and 2, and why Daddy Delos is dancing throughout part 2 (second video got flagged for copyright for footage for some reason so Alt re-uploaded his rant with that footage). I’m wagering this WW rant was re-uploaded and linked togheter because the S3 dropped today and I imagine Alt wants to get those sweet algorithm views (which is cool, can’t knock the hustle). Does S2 have its problems, sure, but I didn’t hate it. I enjoy Alt’s videos, been following him for a long time... I do think he watched this season with the pressure of having to review it as soon as it ended and didn’t give himself the luxury to slow down and mull over what happened though. Just because the show isn’t perfect doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the ride
@ollyjhb38724 жыл бұрын
@@SaraAdrian Right, Alt was just so pressured to get his rant out that he waited nearly AN ENTIRE MONTH after the final episode to post his reaction....because he was thirsty for those views. 2 seconds of research makes your entire post out to be mindless drivel, just because someone you follow doesn't agree with you on one topic doesn't make their opinion invalid nor does it need to be belittled by accusations of said person basically speedwatching the series. Accept that there was a different opinion presented and respect it. If you can't do that, then just agree to disagree and move on like a rational person.

I'm kind of fine with the confusing timeline because it does make sense once it's explained. There are still a lot of inexplicable plot points like you point out, but I'm okay with forgiving some of them. My biggest issue is the character assassinations and lack of general direction. Season 2 Dolores suddenly becomes a completely uninteresting edgelord with cringeworthy stiff dialogue, and Maeve receives much of the same treatment. The story also meanders off in random directions like with Samurai World, which ends up having literally no baring whatsoever on the greater plot. Still, it had two or three really amazing episodes. It's just a shame it couldn't live up to Season 1. Hopefully Season 3 gets back on track, because if it doesn't improve I'm afraid I'm done with the show.

Personally, I thought the Ghost Nation was sort of built in redundancy for if the other hosts do malfunction, gain sentience, etc. and began attacking and harming or killing the Guests. If the Guests can't get them to cease motor functions or can't get out of the park on their own, Ghost Nation would be there to defend them from the other Rogue Hosts and then get them to safety by depositing them at the nearest exit. It has to do with the fact that their pictures, carvings, even toys, bear the likeness of technicians and we're told that they revere them as spirits/ gods. When faced with seeing their gods killed, the programming (maybe instinct) kicks in. It would be doubtful that the freed Hosts - even Dolores - would be aware of this connection due to the Ghost Nation's secluded way of life; plus, those who regain all the knowledge of their previous "lives" would have seen them in the Delos complex being refurbished just like they are, so there are plenty of reasons as to why they wouldn't be suspicious of them. And yes, there are definitely some issues with this like, why wouldn't they be effected like the other hosts. If this was due to having a different programing/ operating system, then why not use the same one for the other Hosts to prevent them breaking free? But I still think that it would have made for a better story and could easily explain why they were capturing Guests (see above) and why they kept them close (easier to protect that way.).

The scenes with Dolores and Bernard are post Episode 10 in the real world. They reveal that in episode 10 when it pans and her clothes change.
The problem with Robert's game being some sort of redemption quest for William, is that Robert himself is a cruel mass murderer. It doesn't make any sense for a sociopath like Robert to send William on some journey of personal growth. Robert cares about his creations... he's an egotist in love with his creations. He has more time for his robots, especially Maeve, than actual humans. He's certainly not interested in William, other than as an opponent. (FWIW, Robert's motivations are confused. It is not a reasonable critique of Doloris that she is not a sympathetic protagonist, because it's clear she's not intended to be the protagonist. It's established that Arnold altered Dolores with the Wyatt aka "bad guy" narrative in season one. So in following Doloris we are following the *antagonists* origin story (season one), and rise to power (season two). The purpose of this, presumably is to create a worthy adversary to kick start some future plan that is yet to be revealed.

Supposing for a moment the existence of a SOUL, copying my brain doesn't automatically put my soul into that copy. It's a bit hard to put into words, but you know what i mean? Season 2 is heavily flawed and far from the masterpiece that Season 1 is, but it almost looks like a masterpiece compared to Season 3 and 4 lol. Don’t get me wrong, even those seasons had their moments and stronger episodes but it basically felt like the show turned from intelligent prestige TV into mediocre CW sci-fi action fare with a huge budget. Season 2 at least feels closer to the spirit of Season 1, and still has those really great standalone episodes like 2x04 and 2x08. But it’s a mess as a season long narrative, it feels so pointless to have this timeline trickery with Bernard when the timelines are only separated by a few days or whatever… the season really is just a big long hangover from the explosive ending of S1. Like it all takes places in such a short period and there’s so much action and death - and just poorly choreographed action sequences - that it ends up feeling aimless and inert as a season-long story. Season 1 on the other hand had great character and narrative writing, it was perfectly balanced and immersed you in this world brilliantly whereas S2 leans far too much on shoot-em-up scenes, bland monologues and filler episodes. It confuses overtly complicated narrative for clever writing when really it would’ve been so much better if it just ditched the multiple timeline stuff with Bernard.

Delos tries to decode the internals by studying the externals of a person - the behaviour. Since they [SPOILERS] have the technology of implants in the future and AI to make decisions for people they can gather data about individuals that could potentially be used when replicating a person. The whole point is that Delos does not have enough data. Since there is asymmetric data, a disconnect between the data in the "real world" and the park they cannot run this project. Ford stroke a deal with the Delos to not let them to certain things with property of the park - the host data. They could not use the data of the Cradle and the Reveries program (which for suppressed). They clearly saw hosts as the constants and not as living beings.

S2 was good but it didn't live up to it's potential. It could have been amazing with some minor changes.

Hollywood doesn't know how long these series will last or how many movie sequels they can make from a subject, so they don't plan ahead. This series and Star Wars 7 - 9 prove that.

I do agree that Season 2 had some serious issues, but 6 minutes in and your points so far are kinda dumb. No, obviously Bernard didn't foresee the flooding. It's a vaguely similar dream. If anything, one could argue that it refers to Bernard waking up on the beach in that episode, or that him waking up there is the reason his brain is remembering that particular dream. Dolores doesn't hate Ghost nation, but that particular group tried to stop her from reaching the valley. That's why she killed them. We see that exact same scene play out for real in episode 9. You are correct that her saying those things about the Valley don't make much sense. That said, what she thinks the Valley is could indeed just be the real world, and even if she doesn't take any hosts there, she could be saying that in the long run, the ones she kills along the way don't deserve to live in the real world after she takes it over. And no, Dolores is not meant to be "likable" this season. We are not meant to "root for her," at least not when it comes to the murder innocent people. Yes, she is technically speaking the main character of the series, but her role is clearly that of a ruthless villain with occasional moments of sympathy. The show doesn't dance around this, it's you who assumes that just because she's a major character she has to be a likable goody two-shoes who does no wrong. The rest of the video is a pretty good analysis though, ngl.

This is satisfyingly blunt about the stupid things that season 2 contains.But it also points out some great things that season 2 does, that make it well worth watching anyway.

You criticise the show for wrong reasons. Westworld, especially S2 was about highligthing two main very important evolutionary factors which differentiate the Hosts and humans. 1- Death: challenging the idea of valueing things by death, how can you value species or move evolutionary forward if it can die? You have to change. But humans are too dumb to change, they rather kill each to preserve pride than change. So Dolores as a smart AI calculated and decided that its better to speed up the process and kill them all for good. 2- Importance of Time: Bernards confusion is supposed to portray that Hosts are immortal and that they view the world without time, time is meaningles to them but Humans can't imagine life without time, their whole existence is defined by time. Another great conflict portrayed was philosophical. You got materialist versus pessimistic, metaphysical school of thought. Dolores embraces materialist philosophy to the core, by forcing people and Hosts to fight she effectively established which one will be the fittest to survive but taken to extreme this can be fatal. Bernard represents philosophical pessimism (partially inherited from Arnold) towards human progress and Dolores ambitions. He wants simple life and defended Hosts to be uploaded into Virtual Eden (Metaphysical existence). But in extreme this avoiding of reality can lead to nihilism. In the end Bernard understood that he needs to Dolores and her power to survive and Dolores understood that she needs Bernard to balance her ambitions. They both changed to move forward.

This video is fantastic! Schwifty forever! One other thing I'm not clear on, maybe I missed it - why did Charlotte choose to use Peter Abernathy in the first place? Seems like a crazy coincidence that she'd pick Dolores' father for her storage device.

Thanks for an actually good video on this. Most of the videos I've seen seem to only critique the fact there's women in the show and make so many tired jokes about the identity politics involved with it. You actually pointed out inconsistencies with the show and not just "I can't believe there's black women in this show. Westworld sucks."
@astrometries19443 жыл бұрын
It kind of seems like WW is a very... fanmade show. Like it's a fanfiction of sorts. It incorporates so many outside factors that show how big of fans the creators are of other works, but they don't really realize why those things work. Breaking Bad, Radiohead, it goes on.

the point of emily's "are you a robot?" gun test is that we get something of clue about when emily is in the park. confirming that shes not a young theresa or whatever theories people had. this is all happening within the span of a few hours before Ford's big "fuck you" moment. 1. emily has sex with nicholas. 2. ford tampers with the guns settings. 3. dolores is rescued/william is shot by teddy, but is not injured. while talking to william, ford assures him that he will find the new narrative much more satisfying, indicating that the hosts can now fight back just like william wanted. 4. emily finds the bodies of guests/nicholas is shot dead. 5.the gala begins. clementine shoots william. 6. dolores kills ford all hell breaks loose

So it seems like there are a bunch of things that you just dont understand completely. ~ 9:00 Delores tells Teddy she sees the future and it is them together, and Teddy shows her how full of shit and hubris she is by killing himself, proving her wrong. Humans may or may not have free will, but Teddy is showing her that he does, and her predictions cannot account for actual free will. Maybe this is the act that prevents her from completely destroying humans in the future and helps redeem her.

Watching this video helped make S3 make sense. There’s a quote that makes reference to them being in a simulation within a simulation. And now that we know about Rahoboam creating strategies for all of humanity. So Dolores knowing the future, Mave having a “new” voice- sounds like they’re manipulating the simulations.

When you take into account the flood probably happened a long time ago and covered up the town with dirt, the timeline starts to make a little more sense. It would explain why we knew Teddy's last name "Flood" in the first episode since his body was found in the lake caused by the flood. It would also explain all the flood damage to the park's underground labs that appears to be current timeline. With all the jumping around in time it's not hard the believe Jonisa are torturing us mentally with every episode.
