well stated lesson. it's better to stay out of the "diet wars" with people and focus on a common sense approach to diet. I like to de-emphasize the precise micro and macro nutrients in each plant and focus more on diversity in color, texture and taste. A bowl of colorful skittles once fit the bill but now a bowl of leafy greens with yellow peppers, red tomatoes, purple cabbage, orange carrots, and black lentils is much more logical.

@@NutritionMadeSimple Nutrition is a complex subject, and experiments with humans can be challenging for many reasons. The lack of certainty allows special interests (i.e. the meat and dairy lobby) and the unscrupulous to make money by selling books promoting fad diets, for example. I am often reminded of the tobacco industry using their own flawed studies to cloud the issue about the dangers of smoking.

Create a video about avocado seed tea. I’ve heard the seed has the most antioxidants and I’ve also heard that the seed contains the most lectins. So much contradictory information about this. Ive read that boiling or heating foods that have lectins reduces the amount of lectins but then how is avocado seed tea heathy if your basically drinking all the water that has stripped the seed of the lectins? I thank you in advance.

Great presentation as usual. I enjoyed the seminar, especially the diet-cancer connection. Question please: What is your take on Rice & Bread, are they healthy carbs? Or processed carbs? We as a family eat basmati rice and whole-wheat bread on daily basis. If it's a healthy carbs, I'll keep it. If it's not, then we can work to make it a once a week dish. Would appreciate your input.

Hey Gil! Can you please make a video about disease risk related to consumption of raffined sugars and fructose respectively. I just heard a scientific podcast about it, and they told so many bad things about it, even about fructose. I know (and have learned from you) that healthy eating is about variety and constancy, but just want to know if it really is so damaging to eat sugar, and especially fructose. I’ll look for some studies on it myself now, and will hopefully soon be going to be able to enjoy a video about it from you.
@NutritionMadeSimple

I'm sure I'll touch on it soon, they're probably referring to evidence indicting purified fructose, either in lab experiments with pure fructose or data on high fructose corn syrup. sometimes this gets misunderstood to mean we shouldn't eat fruit, which is similar to the lectin misunderstanding (jumping from data on a purified molecule in lab experiments to effects of an entire food in a living breathing human). but yeah I'll try to talk about it when possible, I have so many to-do videos!! :)

However, after years of veganism I do like variety ,eat a lot of raw often, and have found that veggies and fruits will easily give you enough protein to thrive. We have all been sold a lie about animal protein and it's so called benefits. Animal Ag is all about wealth, not health

Great video. I'm wondering if you can help give me some pointers in regards to designing a curriculum for my 15-yr-old daughter who wants to switch to homeschooling next year and has expressed an interest in my helping her with a nutrition course. I've been WFPB (Esselstyn) for 3.5 years, but have increasingly become dissilussioned with the dogma on our side of the fense when it comes to certain recommendations that are not based on good science. She is not plant-based and was initially very reactive toward me becoming vegan, partly due to the fact that I was a big meat-eater and low-carber for the first 9 years of her life, and perhaps also the fact that during the first couple of years plant-based I was probably a bit more passionate than I should have been. Going forward I'm looking for resources that would help both of us understand some of the basics as well as nuances of where nutrition science is without getting super advanced. The only book that I know of that sounds like it might be very balanced is the upcoming Plat Proof by Simon Hill. I'll of course suggest his Instagram page and your YT channel. Are there any other books/sites/channels that may help give us a good basic understanding of things similar to some of the ideas you talk about here as well as how to judge the evidence and not get caught up in dogma from any given side? Thanks so much for all your great content!

@NutritionMadeSimple
@NutritionMadeSimple 3 жыл бұрын
@@happycamper4416 I saw that. pretty funny :) the bottom line is that if you pick someone randomly from the population who has low cholesterol despite their western diet, they may have an underlying issue and higher chance of death (unless they have really good genetics that keep their cholesterol low no matter what they eat...). but if someone lowers their cholesterol via healthy lifestyle changes (or meds), their risk probably goes down. so it's all about WHY your cholesterol is low. hope that makes sense it's always the issue of observational evidence (several factors change so it's hard to isolate the culprit) vs interventional trials (more conclusive)
@happycamper4416
@happycamper4416 3 жыл бұрын
@@NutritionMadeSimpleTo summarize your point: Low Cholesterol is like low weight. It is good if the cause is genetics, diet, exercise, medications. It is not good if it can not be explained away by the above causes. Therefore, unexplained drop in cholesterol, just like unexplained weight loss, should be cause for alarm. Makes perfect sense. Can’t wait for your video on this subject. Tnx

@@happycamper4416 you absolutely nailed it, so much so that the exact same trend is seen with weight, they even call it 'the obesity paradox': population data often shows higher mortality at normal weight than overweight. that's exactly the example I have in my notes for that future video!!

Truly healthy foods are too cheap to get the attention they deserve in societies that are thoroughly lobbied and financed by food industry. Optimum amount of foods from 9 whole plant based food groups + B12 and D3 -supplements, iodine from seaweeds or supplement, selenium from one Brazil nut and a tablespoon of nutritional yeast (which offers bunch of zinc), daily overall cost can be as low as 2.5 euros (or dollars) daily. It´s normal to use several simultaneous medications for hypertension only, couple of pills and injections for type 2 diabetes, 1-2 meds for cholesterol, pain killers for arthritis, and get B12 deficiency by interfering absorption with PPIs for heartburn (or from autoimmunity disorder) etc. and put 1000 euros per month for biological medications for what ever. In Finland no authorities are interested about lifestyle medicine - if it means that diet should be something else than "basic recommended omnivorous Nordic diet". There´ll never be enough scientific evidence to overcome the power of money, so it seems. I´ve found this being a huge undiscussed tabu.
