Soooooo, as pro knitter, I love to watch all the crochet pro wing it for knitting! It makes me giggle. So technically, your swatch should be done in the same stitch as what you are making to get the actual measurement. Also for anything that you want to stay up or hug a part of your body, you should make it with negative ease. Ribbing is really forgiving for that so I would have just cast on like you did and knit enough to try and call that a swatch.

You could do leg warmers on your centro, then drop stitches that need purling and use your crochet hook to purl the stitches going back up. I turn mine inside out to make it easier. It just all goes so much faster.

I ordered 6 skeins of Big twist yarn on the 3rd. 2 of the 6 came on the 6, the other half sat in the warehouse waiting for post office to get the order until the 10th, then it went to Detroit on the 12th and finally made it to Columbus and left there today. I am still waiting on it. It is so annoying that they splits the orders or not let any of us know it was canceled too. Neji is so adorable. Gently touches your arm "Are you done mom" Awww

You could weigh the yarn and continue knitting on the length until you have used half the yarn weight on the first one. That would give you the same amount of yarn and length on each leg warmer.

You can magic circle with circular needles and you don’t have to stretch the project like that. It’s a little bit of a pain in my opinion, but it keeps your stitches even instead of stretched
