My dad about 5 years ago started getting into Scotch, Bourbon and Whisk(e)y (I'm convinced as some form of a midlife crisis) and as a result I've had to privilege to try a lot of higher end, as well as affordable/good, whisk(e)ys that I would have never had a chance to try otherwise. Every Christmas when we have family and friends over he brings out his prized possessions and lets everyone "Mooch" off his collection in an attempt to transpose his love for whisk(E)y to those he loves. Whisk(e)y, through my father passion, is very important to me as a result. I'm happy to have stumbled across your channel via rogue. Your channel reminds me of the Christmas parties and listening to my dad explain each and every bottle. Watching this episode embodies everything I've always wanted to do with my fathers collection. Thank you guys keep up the great work.

Great video! I absolutely agree with you on cost, personal taste and rarity. So glad to hear an obviously educated pro say publicly that a $2,000 bottle is not necessarily as good as a $40 bottle. And, for me, you don't need to worry about the length of the video. I enjoyed the entire thing. Thanks.

I've been watching your show for the past 2 weeks and I absolutely love it! This episode inspired me to experiment with a blend of my own. I had a bottle of Kilbeggan and a bottle of Glenfiddich 12, both nearly empty. So instead of finishing them separately on separate occasions, I decided to make a blend of 50/50 (the Kilbeggan was slightly more, so what was left of it remained in it's bottle). I was very pleasantly surprised! With this blend you basically get the answer to the question "What if Speyside was in Ireland?". To anyone who likes Irish and/or Speyside whiskies - try it!

Maybe this would be a good idea for the distillery. When you start blending, take a bit of what is the final batches and toss some in a barrel. Then, after say X amount of runs, bottle it as like Blendageddon Batch 1, 2, 3...etc. I think that would be awesome.

Important BLENDAGEDDON experiment: As you are teaching the class and you are pouring for the students, also pour into an empty clean glass (like one more student). At the end of each class tasting, pour this untouched dram into it's own collective container. This will be the 'untouched' control. Handle the untouched and the touched liquids the same. Now... in a special future BLENDAGEDDON episode, taste test and compare your two versions. See if there is a taste difference. I'm thinking if there is a taste difference, then you're tasting the students. Soylvent Green is Made out of People! Cheers!

I make a Legacy Bottle of my bottle downs from my favorites. I pour them all in a large mason jar with aged and charred oak and blend them. Sometimes I'll take a torch to a whiskey imbued piece of oak and caramelize the whiskey into the oak for a neat effect.

I got so inspired from this episode, that I made my own blend, which resulted in a really nice, complex whisky. I blended: Grant's Family Reserve Glen Moray 12 yo Balvenie DoubleWood 12 yo Ardbeg 10 Jack Daniels Single Barrel Aberlour 18 Glenlivet Founders Reserve Talisker Skye Nose: subtle smoked marzipan, vanilla and buttery caramel Taste: toffee, nuts, liquor ice and a slight berry element as well. Finish: peat, oak and some earth notes + leather. Cheers 🥃

I'm digging this experimental, slightly goofy approach to whisky you have going on. Fun to watch and sort of educational, because anyone can try this. I have a bottle of something similar going. I call it my house "evolution blend" - every time I have a whisky friend over we have a dram of this blend. We smell, taste and analyze - then ask: "What does this whisky need?" And than we add one more whisky to the house blend, and add the name to the label. We joke bout being able to taste who's been over last because your can tell by how the whisky has changed. Last time we might have had a dram to many and we added a good amount of Octomore. Now i fear we might have killed it :/
@WhiskeyVault7 жыл бұрын
Yes! I love that kind of experimentation. And yes, no question, Octomore will wipe out just about everything that comes before it.

Folks can do this over a long period. It is often called an Infinity Bottle. I have one going right now. The last 1-2 oz pour of my whiskies go in a bottle of Willett Family Estate that I finished off, then get recorded on the new label. It'll take longer than two days to get a blend, but I'll have something interesting soon enough! Great video. I'm late to the party, so I'm catching up, but loving it so far.

I have found that I tend to use Harmony in a lot of my blend again drams. Arberlour A'bunadh, Hibiki Harmony, Macallan Edition 3, Redbreast 15, The Spice Tree, and a splash of The Peat Monster. Let it sit for about 45 minutes, never disappoints.

In watching this it reminded me of the "perfume laced" Fettercairn you tried a few episodes ago and I thought that with it being so heavy on the floral notes that maybe adding some of the I think it was Balcones Brimstone or something else to kind of have a fire in the middle of a flower field effect. I also just this moment thought of the Wolfhound and maybe it with a little of the perfumed Fettercairn.

Not claiming anything similar by a long shot but I often tend to shift between single malts and the JW red, my goto blended whiskey. On one such evening, I found a new level of smoke in the red after I returned to it. It was something like you explained, the smoke was the base, and I was pleasantly surprised. Had possibly tasted Auchentoshan Heartwood, some Speyside, can't remember which one, and Ardbeg 10 before.

I love whiskey and have for a long time. Most of what I drink is relatively budget, but I would love to try some of these brands that you are reviewing. What I would love to see is a review of some of the better whiskeys that I have tried and even a comparison to a super cheap whiskey that I find pretty respectable. I am currently binge watching your channel and loving it, but haven't gotten all the way through, so if you have a video out there for some of these, I am sure I will find it, but if not, here are my suggestions. Colonel EH Taylor Small batch, Ardbeg 10yr, 3 Gingers, and (the cheap stuff) Cabin Still...

I was pretty surprised at how smooth the Blendageddon was. I sort of figured it would have too much going on for my noob brain to interpret beyond "yeah, that's definitely alcohol", but really it was pretty nice! Would definitely recommend anyone who happens to be lucky enough to have the chance to try it, to do it. It's an interesting experience even for a know-nothing like me, so someone while some whiskey experience would probably find it super interesting/complex.

Another comment called it an 'infinity bottle', Ralfy called it a 'Solera' bottle in one episode, I have a bottle that receives other bottle ends/unfinished bits it is surprisingly good when I have a glass. The peat is strong but oddly like you found although peat often dominates if you mix one or two whiskys, mixing many whiskies seems to allow the non-peated whiskies to gang up and fight back.
