Guy Wilkerson. Funny and smart. He disguises himself behind noise, bumbling and goofiness. Or maybe he was just lucky. 😂 One of my favorite comic relief characters.

Why was it so popular to make the sidekick dumber than a rock in these old westerns and why didn't the horses get shot when a group of outlaws chases a stagecoach?

At the time America had come out of the great depression. The dumb sidekick gave comic relief and keep the movie from being to serious. People needed to laugh and be entertained. To see that good guys always beat tbe bad guys. My mom and dad lived during the great depression. They used stuff till it was worn out. Nobody did home make overs just for something new. My parents kept every spare nail and screw just in case they might need it. This all seems crazy by current standards, I guess you had to be there. Not to mention WW2
