Can I just praise the Documentarian’s voice actress for this episode? She’s always done a good job being so stoic and objective but hearing the flood of emotion after her heartbreaking choice was so superb ❤️

I just want to applaud the way you're pulling off the "reveal" part of what is, in essence, a cosmic/lovecraftian horror story. I think most stories in that genre stick to tantalizing clues but forgo any kind of reveal entirely to maintain a deeper sense of mystery and to focus on character psychology...but also because it's really difficult to give "eldritch mysteries" a satisfying payoff. But here I feel like you're doing an awesome job walking a really tricky line: you're pulling back the curtain on *some* key aspects of mystery while making us feel the pain that comes with the "curse of terrible knowledge" trope through the characters. I don't know if I'm doing a great job explaining myself but as a loooong-time cosmic horror fan I'm really impressed with Ms Statz's storytelling craft. And I want to add on the praise for Hem Cleveland as the Documentarian, my god, what a performance in this episode.

That's Peter Joseph Lewis! He has such a deep voice, and a deep love for horror. He also voices many stories over on the NoSleep Podcast.

I love the voice performance of the Documentarian but others have said many good things about her already, so I'll instead express my admiration for the voice of her mother, Karin Heimdahl, whose delivery always seems to carry an everpresent sorrow and conveys the feeling of someone who is considering nearly every word with careful consideration. It's usually expected for a person in her position to be colder, crueler, or even fearful but she just sounds weary and the fear in her voice is more akin to the respect accorded to things that are beyond her ken. Her few moments of joy are brief, like she's carefully collecting what pieces of happiness she has. Voice acting is an art form and she demonstrates this wonderfully!

Well, I guess I was right. For the wrong reasons. It is all a sacrifice. And probably to something eldritch and horrible... but in this case, it is not done out of malice. Fascinating system.

god, i cant help but feel sympathetic towards The Documentarian. she was trying to figure out what the hell was going on and put a stop to all of the fucked up shit going on, only to be chained to a decision thatd either likely end in the destruction of everything or kill these people shes grown familiar with and seen the humanity within. when sending graham back to freestead before she knew anything, she was doing so out of a sense of justice. she wanted to put an end to the tragedy. and now, shes been essentially grabbed by the face and had her hands strapped to two buttons: sacrifice, or destroy the world. shes been given no actual room to decide for herself: her and her mother know that with how things are going, if The Documentarian doesnt make the decision the mother wants, if she tries to actually think it over, more people will suffer at the hands of the guardians. deaths will happen anyways, and nothing will pause to let her think. shes being completely crushed under the weight of something that not even her family fully understands, and shes clearly terrified and in absolute agony. The Documentarian has certainly done questionable things, being willing to risk others lives in order to seek a truth. but, even then, it was never a sacrifice. it would certainly be a lot more beneficial to her if they made it out alive, considering theyre the ones holding the damn cameras in the first place. this is the first time that, to her, she'll actually have blood on her hands. people will die directly because of her. The Documentarian has gone from a vague entity who served as a way to present the story to the audience to arguably the most sympathetic character out here. at this point, ive got no clue what she'll try to do - shes obviously gotten the cameras back somehow, otherwise shed have nothing of the others to report. maybe she'll get a plan once she thinks a bit more. maybe she'll suffer the same fate as her mother, growing complacent to sacrifice and giving up on finding an alternative solution. hell, i wouldnt even put it past her to sacrifice herself in some way at this point, the guilt of sending people to die and the drive to end the entire process in the first place leading her to attempt to fix it with her own hands. ive always loved the documentarian, especially in the first season after it dawned on me that the documentarian herself was a character within the story and not just a narration device. ive always loved her tenacity, and her VA is seriously talented. her devastation at the reality of it all shot through me like a guardian slicing my body open and stealing my heart. basically, The Documentarian is my best friend and im giving her a warm fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot chocolate because GOD she needs a break. i cant wait to see how she and the others progress throughout this, seriously fantastic stuff done here and i CANNOT wait for season 6 to drop
