John once said of Keith - "Keith Moon plays music to fall downstairs to." ROFLMAO! As a drummer, I can honestly say that's totally true :-) It's what made him so unique and great. Who are the 40 people who disliked this? They either have to be music snobs with no sense of humor or Justin Bieber fans... I loved this song as a kid and still do.

Keith always reminded me of Gene Krupa. Ofc I'm sure he was an influence! I loved Keith so much. So spooky that on the last lp before he died he was sitting on a chair that said "Not To Be Taken Away". Then he left. Awesome drummer but he couldn't keep time! Always had a click track or Pete's guitar as a guide. Hilarious, I adored him, the loon! ❤

Pete has always had the reputation of being hot tempered and unreasonable to work with,but it seems to me after all these years that he was the one who kept them all together until shortly after Keith passed away.He seems more than willing to adopt his playing here to give John the spot light and that is admirable.The result is very "weird" but unique,fantastic!
@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747

I believe, that as showcased in Behind Blue Eyes, Pete is this sensible genius who found emotional consolation for his childhood trauma in songwriting. Before I Can't Explain The Who was Roger's band, but as soon as the band manager, Kit Lambert, found that Pete was a talented songwriter he started to preassure him in coming with the band's new material. So in that regard there are two aspects to consider, one, that as soon as Pete found that John Entwistle could also write, he trusted him with filling the track lists when he felt artistically crushed (Cousin Kevin and Fiddle About being the best examples) and second, that he was the last memeber of the Who to make a solo album, because all of his focus was into writing songs for the band. He carried the band for two whole decades, that's why I'm ok with him keeping his best 80's for his solo albums while leaving the leftovers for the mediocre Face Dances and It's Hard albums.

Yes, John was the only member of The Who who had any formal musical training prior to joining the band. And as Pete pointed out in the Ox's Tale documentary tribute to John, John transferred his style of playing brass instruments to playing the electric bass the same way in terms of the fingering technique that John so eloquently exhibited.

When I was 10 years old I used to babysit for my neighbors. He was navy (this was CA near Moffett field) anyway, before I left one day, the dad found out i liked Pete Townsend and he asked me if Id ever heard any of his old stuff. Well, being 10, I said that I hadn't and on came Happy Jack. I was glued...transfixed and in love with a band I didnt know. Then he said "oh if you like that..." And on came Boris. I have yet, to this day, hear a song that literally altered my life as much as that song did. It made me the Odd One that I am today. Thank you so much Keith and Pete. I'll love y'all fureverrrr.

The off-beat shuffle drums after the first chorus line on the studio version are genius. This could only have been written by one of the best of bass players in close collaboration with one of the superlative drummers. Hence, Moon's sarcastic protestations. Horror lyrics and undulating octaves create the atmosphere. Also at 1:49 / 1:50 Boris shows his presence on John's shoulder :). Just FTW.

'Boris the johnson' ('sung-to-the-tune-of' of 'Boris the spider') [Note: "Johnson" is common 1850s-1990s slang for 'penis'.] Look, he's driving me up the wall Messed up hair, very small Now he's in over his head Hanging by a little thread Boris the johnson Boris the johnson Now he's plopped another deplore Heading for the Commons' door Doesn't care any degree Soon be gone now, bloody flea Boris the johnson Boris the johnson Creepy, crawly Creepy, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly In the garden having a ball Doesn't have a clue at all His hair is shed, all over the floor Doesn't show on the Commons floor Boris the johnson Boris the johnson Creepy, crawly Creepy, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly He's heading for a sticky end Don't think he will ever mend Never more will he crawl 'round He's headed to be uncrowned Boris the johnson Boris the johnson

Well, warden145, Roger is onstage but he's on the right side of the drums. The begining of this videos shows a person marked by a red light: that's Roger. He's there because he's not the focus on the music, just singing the backing vocals and let John get more attention. Aside that, the loud guy was Moon, the Loon picking up on John because reasons. Hahahahahaha

Alexeiyeah This, to me is a milestone because we hardly ever see John playing, only once or twice, and that was the live Version of Won't Get Fooled Again...... which was a good 9-10 minutes, which is pretty upsetting.......
