There are dozens and dozens of The Who songs that I love, but for some reason, this one has always been my favorite. It's like Keith went all-out for John on this song. But then, Keith goes all-out on every song. So great!!

No one could really argue here, Moon was one of the best drummers, Daltrey one of the best vocalists, Townshend one of the best guitarists and writers, and Entwhistle THE best bassist - EVER. They could have been statues on stage and been huge - except they were also among the best PERFORMERS ever. Now that's a band!

Love this song... what a truly great live band they were! People complain about Moonie's drumming, including Pete on occasion... but to me his explosive, totally dynamic style of drumming - and his natural showmanship - were a perfect fit for The Who.

Well like they say...The Who had a lead singer, a lead guitarist, a lead bassist AND a lead drummer. THAT imho is what makes them the greatest rock band EVER.
@jimalexander687
@jimalexander687 Жыл бұрын
As a musician for forty-five years, I can state emphatically that a band is a unit with each part dependent upon each other part. And yes, while there were more than a few really great bands (most if not all of whom were from this era, The Who was unique in that The Who wasn't actually a band in the accepted understanding of that term, but rather a compilation of four soloists, each doing his own thing, which were incredibly able to do together what not one, or two, or even three of them could have done apart from the others. When even a single component of The Who was missing, they were no longer The Who, and that which made them unique was gone forever.

@@inoutdoor4211Roger actually has the highest, softest voice of anyone in the band besides Pete. He just very rarely sings in it as he mostly chose to sing in his rougher, rock voice. How Many Friends is a perfect example, as is much their early material and his solo career. Pete would usually sing the super high notes though, and John would contribute to the higher pitched harmonies.

Even Keith at his worst has 10 times more stamina then any rock drummer on the planet! As Buzz Osbourne from the Melvins said and i quote... "Pete was also writing songs for arguably the best rhythm section out there being John Entwistle and Keith Moon, John was nothing less than a master Bass player and Moon was an absolute monster behind the kit, they all played with a ferocity that's yet to be matched" - Buzz Osbourne guitarist and singer of the Melvins

So I’ve basically burned enough music from the who into my mind now to know that Pete knows how sing, play guitar, piano, and harmonica. Roger knows how to play harmonica, that thing that you put in your mouth that looks like a key with a thick string in the middle, guitar, and sings. Keith plays drums and also sings.and John plays bass guitar, harmonica, the French horn, and again, knows how to sing. WOW, now if people who read this can do me a favor, if you search up on urban dictionary talent, you will see these four GODS as the first result. Thank you, and have a good day.

Few things related to music bother me more than Townshend dumping on Moon and/or Entwistle as he's done many times since their deaths. While there is no taking away the brilliance of Pete's composition, and his songs would've been great with any group of musicians, it was The Who (thanks to Moon and Entwistle) which made them absolutely unique and unforgetable. Try imagining even simple songs like "I Can't Explain" with a normal drummer. The Kids Are Alright, I Can See For Miles, Won't Get Fooled Again, Bargain, The Real Me. Practically any and every Who song first recorded during Moon's lifetime. It's like trying to imagine Come Together, Rain and most Beatles songs without Ringo. Or Rock and Roll without Bonham's rhythm. Naturally, we think of those beats when we hear those songs, but only because they developed them. Most people hearing those melodies would not have imagined drums the way they were actually played. The drummer drives any band. Zeppelin with Moon would not been Zeppelin. The Who with another drummer wouldn't be and never was The Who. Moon's unique (albeit sloppy) drumming added a dimension to those songs that would not have been there with another drummer. And whether or not he was the best bassist, John was certainly unique. As a bassist working with a drummer who rarely laid down a beat (and when he did was often erratic), he had to develop a completely new way of playing bass. Though many try to imitate him (myself included), no one is like him. And even those who can copy him, are only playing that way because of the style he developed.

The Ox was a damn good singer, From a low guttural basso profundo to a falsetto and back.

You edited out the most interesting part, when Pete loses his mind over a roadie moving his stuff around and Pete pushes his Hiwatt heads over onto the guy and tears a strip off of him. Editing it out doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

@@themannamedstan7401 "Tears a strip off him" = Loses his temper and Gets angry at him and berates him when the song ends. It's all on the full DVD/Blu Ray clip of the song.

In the days when you listened to a whole album, and tracks like “my wife” grew on you.

That's why I prefer LPs over CDs and digital. Many less popular songs grew on me by listening to albums all the way through.

Absolutely I didn’t care for this song for a few years and then it grew on me to one of my favorite Who songs. Brilliant song by The Ox
