I've said it before and I'll say it again: from Zak Starkey's debut in '96 to the Ox's death in '02, The Who hit a second peak as a live act that saw them outdo their younger selves time and again. This knockout performance is but a single nugget atop a mountain of proof.

Crazy Entwistle!! Whole thing is mind melting today. Best 2 parts were the Rodney Dangerfield intro, "My Wife..." and when he tosses the pick because it was slowing him down at 1:51. Classic Thunder!

And in no way am I taking anything away from Keith or how amazing he was, or how irreplaceable he was, it's just amazing how much Zac's been able to do. Keith was such a character, loved making people laugh, and had a very devious side (explosives, toilets, cars and pools (and TVs)), add that to his unique style of drumming, Zac can fill in, and in may ways fill his shoes, but never replace him.

In times every bassman had a sound with no brilliance at all, The Ox showed me how a bass should sound like. I am now 34 years on stage - and I was right making Ox my great influence. I love his sound hammering with the fingers of his right hand - and I own two Buzzard - basses, a Thunderbird and my own "Frankenbass" to have a sound like he had - with slightly smaller setup.

Roger is definitely propping up Johns vocal’s during this…..but Johns bass is at the top of his game. He was the GOAT bassist, in my non bass playing opinion, for what it’s worth.

Story I heard was that they needed a song to finish Who's Next and Pete asked John if he had something. John told him he had a song he had decided not to put on the solo album he had just done. This was it. So a song that was basically a filler became another great one on what many think is the greatest rock album ever recorded. I have always loved this song and it is nice the see the band really, giving it their all in this clip. They didn't always do that. A bit fast for the vocals, but the playing is just amazing.

While Keith Moon is irreplaceable, Zac really seems to channel him in his playing and provide the spark needed to help fill his shoes. As far as Entwistle, how do you replace him? He was so unique, often taking the role of lead guitar, on bass, plus his totally unique tone, it could take 20 years to find someone who could even start to fill those shoes. I'm glad that Pete and Roger are still out there, but with losing John, it's just not possible. Imagine if Keith and John were still around!

Deep thoughts by a man named Stink, errrr. Sting” The Who wouldn’t have been The Who without Joy Entwhistle “ no bleep Sherlock. My favorite of the songs John wrote for The Who. Off The Who’s Next album 1971. It’s been over two decades since John died and he is still terribly missed by Who fans all over the world. Since John died The Who has gone through more bass players than Spinal Tap went through drummers. I still laugh when I see John in that skeleton suit at the Isle of Wight concert. Which I assume was the inspiration for the similar suit Christopher Guest wore in Spinal Tap!!!!
