I put together a cassette in the 80’s and on the first side I had; Join Together,Let’s See Action, Too Much of Anything, Relay and Pure and Easy. Side 2 had Water, Postcard,Put the Money Down, Naked Eye and Long Live Rock. That would’ve been an incredible Who album!

This is a nice video, and many of these (like Pure and Easy and Naked Eye) are my favorites as well. Because the "Magic Bus- On Tour" album wasn't really an official Who release, I would also count "Disguises" as a non-album deep track, because it was originally released on an EP in UK in 1966, "Ready, Steady, Who." Many people use the term "deep cuts" for songs that were on albums but rarely or never played on the radio. In that area, there are many lesser-known Who songs that are among my favorites, such as "So Sad About Us," "Sunrise," "Silas Stingy," "Sea and Sand," "Dreaming From the Waist," and "The Music Must Change."

Your wish album of 1968 kind of exists already. It's disc four in The Who Sell Out box set. They titled it, "The Road to Tommy." It starts with Glow Girl and ends with Magic Bus, and has all those great singles, B-sides and outtakes from '68, or at least most of them. Faith in Something Bigger is the second track too. Melancholia is another one that's on it. It's definitely one of the highlights of the box set. Pure and Easy, Dogs, and Little Billy would all be in my top 20 or 30 Who songs, for sure.

"When I Was a Boy", an Entwistle song, is a favorite of mine. It was the B-side of "Let's See Action" in 1971. It eventually showed up on one of the "Rarities" albums. Keith does some drum fills that are very interesting and different from his usual playing.

I’m a pretty big Who fan and I’m glad you brought up Odds and Sods. It’s actually been forever since I’ve listened to it, and it’s high time I did. But I do remember Pure and Easy, an excellent track. “ Getting in Tune “ and Going Mobile are two deep tracks that I’ve always enjoyed. Plus, I have a soft spot for “ Trick of the Light. “ Then there’s “ Eyesight to the Blind “, a short but powerful little gem.

All these tunes you mentioned here are the greatest Who tracks. Always loved the non album material. I predicted almost all the tracks you chose. Pure and Easy was also on Who Came First... Pete's first solo album but not nearly as good as the Who version. Great picks!!

Another steller and much appreciated video, Tom. Being a big Who fan, I reluctantly picked up a copy of Odds and Sods in the late 70's, not expecting much, but ending up being blown away by the quality of the songs within. Jump ahead 20 years to the release of the expanded cd version and they did it again, doubling the length of the original lp with another set of astounding songs seeing the light of day for the first time.

Hi Tom. As a Who fan of almost 60 years, I really enjoyed the video. I believe that Pure and Easy was left off of Who's Next because it was the centre piece of the Lifehouse project, which was eventually abandoned by Townshend, on the advice of Glynn Johns, who engineered/produced the album. Townshend didn't want to include his main project centre piece on what became an album of random and some remaining songs of the project.

Hi Tom. Was never a major Who fan. I have "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy," "Who's Next" and "Odds and Sods." I used to have "Tommy," but the cover started falling apart and, I think I played it too much because I really didn't care to hear it anymore, so I gave it away. I like the stuff on "Odds and Sods" very much. And you mentioned "Call Me Lightning," I also like that song a lot! I like the B-side to "I'm a Boy," a song called "In the City." Like the A-side too. I don't listen to them near as much as I used to. Some artist's music has really aged well with me (Kinks, Elvis Costello and Golden Earring have aged very, very well); but I don't find The Who to be one of them. Enjoyed the video Tom, and I agree with your choices; particularly the things from "Odds and Sods."

I don't know how much this qualifies but my favourite Who song by a massive distance has always been "A Legal Matter" which was featured on the only Who LP that was in my Dad's collection "Meaty, Beaty, Big And Bouncy" (1971) and he also had the single "Squeeze Box" . "I don't Even Know Myself" from the reissue of "Who's Next". I also like Richard Thompson's live cover of "A Legal Matter" as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I knew all the tracks you mentioned. Odds And Sods eventually came out in an expanded deluxe edition with more outtakes, every one a banger, except Now I'm A Farmer from the original issue, and the two previosly unreleased High Numbers tracks, both of which were soulless Motown covers, Leaving Here (Eddie Holland) and Baby Don't You Do It (Marvin Gaye), plus their version of Summertime Blues. An earlier live version of their version of a song just called Man With Money (no THE in the title) from early 1966 was already available on their BBC Sessions CD. I picked up the version you mentioned which has a low volume, plus an earlier live version still, which according to details below was from Ready Steady Go in late 1965. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4WcmXyIeLF8ldE They sounded as though they were just getting the feel of the song then, only to be crippled by it's uneven sound quality. The Everly Brothers' original was first out on the B side of their 1965 hit, Love Is Strange. Both sides were then included on their next album. But this is a better sound quality 1966 live version by The Who. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ7bZoeda5manbs

I have to correct you on “Pure and Easy”, the song was actually released in 1972 for the first time on Pete’s first solo Album, Who Came First, while it’s both he band composition version and just Pete’s initial version, it was released before Odds and Sods, also, no way I would take off “My Wife” from Who’s Next, that’s a great song and one of Entwistle’s best songs on a Who album. “Going Mobile” could have been removed to accommodate “Pure and Easy”.

Apart from the awesome musical qualities they featured some celestial harmonies by Pete, Roger and sometimes Keith who enjoyed a number 1 Hit in Sweden 1966 as lead singer with the Who on "Bucket T) ❤ 2 great and philosophical Pete Townshend Songs are " Guitar and Pen" and "Don't let go the coat" on otherwise mediocre albums😊
