The Who - Summertime Blues [Live at Leeds] - Bass Cover

Ciao a tutti! Ho aperto questo canale per proporvi delle bass cover di vari pezzi della storia del rock e delle varie diramazioni cercando di riprodurli nel miglior modo possibile e cercando di emulare le sonorità dei bassi utilizzati nelle registrazioni.
Questa è la cover di Summertime Blues fatta dalla storica rock band The Who nel Live at Leeds del 1970, pezzo originario di Eddie Cochran pubblicato nel 1958.
Ho cercato di riprodurre al meglio le sonorità del Fender Precision "Frankenstein" Bass di John Entwistle in questo live. Il suo basso era un assemblaggio fatto con vari resti di Precision e Precision Slab dell'epoca dalla sonorità veramente unica e particolare. Era amplificato da testata valvolare e cassa Hiwatt, con la massima presenza dei treble. Le corde utilizzate erano delle Rotosound Swing Bass standard gauge.

Good stuff! I love Live at Leeds. I love all the songs on the original release but it's weird (given all the awesome original material by the Who) how much I love the covers on this album: Summertime Blues, Shakin All Over and Young Man Blues. By far, my favourite versions of both Summertime and Shakin. I have and love the rerelease with the extra material. But, I must confess, I just can't get into Tattoo or Fortune Teller....

Very, very Impressive! Couple of questions: did you choose not to include John's open/low E "mistake" in the intro because it sounds a little "off"? Also - when you are doing the high semi-chromatic downward glissando thing on the G string (before the 2nd and 3rd verses) are you fully depressing the G string onto the frets or running your finger down the G string without fully depressing it? (I have always had a hard time getting it to sound right). A very nice job on the bass during the guitar solo (I have always had a bit of trouble with it as the timing is a little bit spastic). To me, John's bass tone at Leeds University is the ultimate bass tone (when he is using the pick and using palm muting). Someday when I strike it rich I want to buy a couple of HiWatt CP-103's (if that is even possible) and a Fender Precision Bass.

Thank you Jeffrey! You know, I've always played Summertime Blues with John's low E mistake but for this cover I decided to remove it and play it as correct as possible without live mistakes. About the G slide at 1:02 I do exactly what you see in the video: press the G string around the end of the fretboard and with the right hand picking really fast slide down with the left hand. The left hand must not embrace the neck (you'll have friction and this won't help the slide), you have to press the string only. The only thing to learn very well is the fast picking. When I play it my right hand is rigid with the pick very close to the string. I hope I've been helpful (sorry for my bad english!). I agree with you about John's bass tone and also about the Hiwatt! Man I've always dreamt of getting an Hiwatt...
