Similar to what you said regarding parentification, a concern that has always stood out to me is Bailey's role within the family. She is the oldest child (12 or 13 years older than their youngest) and the only daughter. There's been a lot of discussion regarding "oldest daughter syndrome" lately, where the oldest daughter is unfairly burdened with emotional labor and chores typically delegated to adults. They don't have any nannies that I'm aware of, and she doesn't go to school. With 5 younger brothers, and two parents overly focused on social media, I worry about how much is put on Bailey's shoulders when the camera isn't rolling.
@entransify2 ай бұрын
All of their kids are homeschooled, and there is proof of the curriculum used as being not great. Bailey did briefly attend public high school, but she was removed and theories about why. I honestly feel they set her up for failure. When I stopped watching their stuff, it felt like to me Bailey and Jacob both didn't want to be on camera.

Another point I’d like to add: Multiple Employees from the departments that handle & deal with CP content have come forward & said that EVERY single channel that does family vlogging is on the websites where these disgusting individuals share, buy, & sell images & videos of underage children. Knowing that fact alone would make me take down my entire family channel (IF I had one, I don’t, but no way could I continue putting my child’s face on the internet knowing what gross people were doing to the content I was uploading!) Also, several teens/young adults have come out & spoke about when their parents had a camera shoved in their face for their Family Vlogs/Channel & have all said it ruined their childhood. Anyone who does family content & shows their children’s faces is absolutely deplorable in my book.

Thank you so much for sharing the clip where Colleen is talking about demonetization. It’s truly concerning to hear a mother say that removing AD’s makes it “easier” for pedophiles to watch, like no the pedophile doesn’t care about a 1 min ad.. they are just happy they get to watch this kind of content provided so graciously by the parents of the children… I was also around in the earlier days of KZbin and can 100% confirm I used to see the time stamps in the comments, it horrified me and I immediately realized how dangerous family blogging can really be.

It was so telling that Jessica called out “gossip culture” for choosing whatever is “profitable”. Because, that former fan that commented has NOTHING to gain by setting that boundary and expression their upset. Their former fans aren’t profiting off of any of this. Jessica is the only one in that interaction profiting, and she’s angry that she’s no profiting as much as she used to.

And also her “if you have a problem, call me. If you don’t have my number, you don’t have a problem” is also so funny. Because SHE was in personal group chats with underage fans. I don’t like watching family bloggers as well, especially after Ruby Franke’s arrest. I personally think it puts the kids at risk. This reminded me of something I heard about back in March or April of last year. I heard about a new bill proposed in the French National Assembly to prevent parents from oversharing images of their kids online. I think it passed, but I'm not entirely sure. I think this law would be the first of its kind. According to an article I read, one of the clauses wants to make the parents responsible for the privacy rights of children who cannot consent to posting pictures and videos. In extreme cases, a judge can take away one of the parents' rights to post images/videos of their kids if it's deemed "harmful or excessive." So, if Colleen, The Ballinger Family, or any of these other family vloggers lived in France, they'd probably be in big trouble there.

Whatever Colleen's intentions were in her Miranda content, the "humor" hinges on the blurring of boundaries. When is it OK for an adult to expose you to sexualized content? Why is it funny to imply sa by a family member? Learning how to establish healthy boundaries is a critical part of developing into a healthy human being, and she's out here profiting on normalizing the violation of boundaries. For her to say she's "not a groomer" because her end goal wasn't to engage in physical sexual acts with her young fans is nonsense.

Also, I agree with you about the issues of religion and homeschooling. It works for some people! But a lot of hyper-religious parents claim public schools indocrinate kids (not true), so they homeschool to do their own indoctrination. I hated public school because I was bullied hard, and my lack of social skills and quirkiness didn't help, but no indocrintion happened. I was indoctrinated by church, though.

Even before I thought anything of family vloggers & watched them, the gymnastics & birth videos always made me feel SO uncomfy. Just personally, I can’t fathom doing that with my kids so I can’t help but judge when other people do. Idk, the birth thing is up to whoever gives birth, but the people who leave those videos fully graphic make me soooo uncomfy & I will fully judge when that is just an intro to a child as a character. If someone just wanted to post their video for them bc it made them feel strong & they wanted to share - truly more power to you. The issue for me lies when the child they just birthed is going to be an ongoing character in their roles as breadwinners of the family. I also wanna say that I did gymnastics, dance, ice skating, all the things when I was a kid but I feel like not posting that stuff is internet literacy 101. I don’t have much more to say about that, it feels like a given, and it feels like people who do that WANT their kids to be exploited bc they have to know better.

My family were really close with our neighbours, and their youngest was 14 years older than me, so she would babysit us from a young age. I never had any "relationship" chats with her, but my younger sister did, and she is definitely a really close person in my life. I don't think JoJo having a close relationship with the Ballingers is necessarily a bad thing.
@RynDummerАй бұрын
I think it is kind of odd, but it’s not super inappropriate
@dylantd9189Ай бұрын
@@RynDummer I think it very much depends on the situation. I don't know how close JoJo's family was to Colleen, or whether JoJo would just be dropped off there randomly. Also I'm not sure how the relationship started .. like was it a longterm thing and they ended up bonding like sisters, or did it start out as a professional collaboration? I think Grooming is disgusting but there is a grey area. Since for something to be considered grooming there needs to be that "plan for sexual encounter". But how do you prove that? Also it's damaging to insinuate all adult to teenage relationships are inappropriate 🤷🏼. I just hope that JoJos parents were at least aware of the situation at hand and she had a safe space to talk to if she was feeling uncomfortable
@karaleigh_evaАй бұрын
I think an adult-teenager relationship crosses free boundary into inappropriate if the adult treats the teenage as if they’re a peer. This isn’t grooming, and I do agree that calling EVERHTHING that’s inappropriate grooming does more harm than good. But divulging your marital or emotional problems onto a teenager, talking about your sex life, gossiping, wanting to know about their sex lives - things like that are just plain wrong and I think show an immense level of immaturity from the adult in question.
@dylantd9189Ай бұрын
@@karaleigh_eva I think it can be hard. Like what if you have siblings? You stop once you become an adult? I don't think that applies to Colleen/JoJo cause I don't think they've known eachother that long. Yeah I think at most it should be a one way conversation. Be there to listen & give advice, but not to probe. I work with teenagers, and it can be hard. Because sometimes you want to use your experience to relate to the kids so they feel less alone. But you have to know what's appropriate to share. (I've never shared anything personal. The most I said was in response to some teen boys saying they felt pressured to get girlfriends/start dating, and I said I didn't have a GF in HS or most of my early adult life, and it's okay to wait until you're ready). Some might say that's inappropriate, but I try to put my feet in Coleen's shoes, as she likely had/has a closer relationship with JoJo than I do with these teens. Sometimes those boundaries are blurred if everyone (including the other adults in the situation) are feeling comfortable. Ultimately if JoJo & her family are fine with the situation I don't think we/the internet really should be judging tbh.

As someone who grew up in a large Mormon family with 6 kids, I will say that its not always bad to have a lot of kids. My oldest brother was rarely, if ever, left to act as a pseudo-parent for the rest of us, and my parents worked hard to make sure that we all felt like we had adequate time and attention. We are all super close because we spent a lot of time together. I do think there are things that maybe could have been better, but I am happy with how my life turned out.

The buddy system, commonly heard about in the Duggar family, is taking care of your baby sibling's every need, even though you may only be 6 years old yourself. It includes bathing, clothing, feeding, etc. It can be common in families where the parent doesn't have enough bandwidth to do all of this themself. I wish it was just holding their hand at Disneyland.

Ok but homeschooling is not like you describe, my kids get tons of interaction with kids in a more organic environment than school. And public school is the definition of indoctrination. The freedom homeschooling allows is so much greater than any public school could offer
@keeperofthe7keys19878 ай бұрын
So you’re saying the public school system isn’t indoctrinating children? But home schooling is? 😂😂😂😂😂
@wickywickyjoka8 ай бұрын
No. That is not how logic works. She only meant what she actually said. We don't determine what people mean by what they DIDN'T say. If I say I like apples, it does not mean I don't like oranges. If I say that a stable home creates well rounded citizens, I do not mean that an unstable home creates criminals. If I say that church is indoctrinating, it does not mean that I believe a cult promotes free thinking. What she said was, that keeping her in private setting at home "MAY HAVE" (that's important too. MAY does not mean DEFINITELY) created a lack of social experience necessary to navigate social situations. And that suppressing your child from contacting outside opinions MAY be an indication of indoctrination.
@hannibanani0295 ай бұрын
I'm not sure you have a good grasp on what indoctrination means. Public schools are physically incapable of indoctrinating children, because anything they teach can be criticized and/or refuted by the parents/family of the student. Indoctrination requires teaching without allowing criticism or questioning of what is being taught. Homeschooling, combined with limiting the scope of your children's social interactions outside of the family, can easily indoctrinate. It doesn't have to, as long as the parents are committed to their children learning about a wide range of beliefs and worldviews, but this frequently does not happen, thus the criticism in the video.
@entransify2 ай бұрын
I was in public school K-12 and was never indoctrinatinated by it. My only issues were being relentlessly bullied. I was, however, indoctrinated by church and i was quite sheltered as a result.
