V2 was the peak of the Carti community, after WLR the floodgates where open and Carti became mainstream. V2 was something special. As hard as it is to believe, Carti’s fanbase was more of a cult then than it is now. I’ll paraphrase a quote from one of the tracks on Destroy Lonelys ILCK to highlight how crazy V2 was, “niggas dying for tryna get down”. V2 was when the Carti fanbase had the most hunger for his music and was also a period when Carti was the most illusive and mysterious and fans were doing ANYTHING to get a hand on his music e.g. going on hella expensive group buys to buy music, doing and saying crazy stuff on IG live to get people to send HQ music of leaks, harassing every Carti affiliate including his then longtime gf and current baby mama Iggy Azalea, following every single affiliate including those at the lower totem poll to find out about WLR, predicting songs that would be on the project, making KZbin videos and Carti type beats, like V2 was the era this community truly peaked. Before the TikTok and mainstream fans hopped on board. That’s why V2 was special, V2 was the purest form of Carti fans because he was still fairly underground and anti-mainstream with the way he handled himself and the way he experimented with his music. TLDR; V2 is the era in which all Carti fans at the time knew after his next album Carti was about to go mainstream, the insane hype generated an almost excessive amount of fan discourse and interaction over his next project which, as predicted, was his biggest and best. It was also the era when Carti was solidifying his Opium label, further adding to the anticipation of what he planned to do next. All of this dominoed into him trending across every single online medium due to the cult like nature of his fans. Whenever Carti posted it trended on IG and Twitter as fans waited in anticipation for his next move.

The original WLR is just Die Lit 2. The fact that Carti didn’t drop even a single track from this era is what makes Carti different from the entire game, he wants to push boundaries and be at the front of the genre

IMO, i'm glad we got the version of WLR that we got. While the songs from previous iterations like Cancun, Whole Lotta Red and Skeletons are good, i think the experimentation in the official release is a lot more interesting and enjoyable because to me, old WLR just sounded like a straight sequel to Die Lit. WLR sounds like it's own thing.

so many people hated on WLR v2 snippets / songs back then. it saddens me because during this era when he created his private finsta opium_opiumoo, & he made a post captioned “anxiety holdin me bakk”. Carti was much more present in his preformances during this time too, he wouldn’t hide in the smoke or stand far from the crowd on stage. He’d actually show his face and rap the lyrics rather than standing in smoke and screaming. don’t get me wrong i still fw how he preforms but i miss those moments. His outfits were peakkkk broooo,he would be seen in chrome mixed with nike / jordan’s or you’d catch him in all rick with the low top drkshdws. Last time he walked in a show was for Virgil’s off white show in Paris. Richie Souf & pierre’s beats on WLR > F1lthys wlr imo. But on the downside, i don’t think carti would have inspired others or created the sorta wave he did with the released version of WLR. I really feel like during the v2 era, he was truly pushing his voice to a different limit. He was taking his time with the project, whereas The released WLR still was experimental, he whipped it up in only a few months prior to its release. I feel like the hype he was building “i’m tryna drop my shit in the next 60 days” or “Locked in 48 hours >” or “I jus made 10 vibes” was all thrown away and replaced by an album he made in only a few months. I was being very patient during this era, because the snippets i heard, i enjoyed. I liked where he was taking his voice a lot. Art takes time, and he did that. But it was all for nothing. trenches & xtc are my grails, & everytime a new leak surfaces from the v2 era..it brings back that feeling of junior year of high school, waiting in anticipation every thursday at school in hopes that he would finally share his art with the world. I feel like he gatekept this era on purpose.
