The song has been played at all The Waterboys live shows since 1985. MTV played the video constantly that same year to much acclaim. Fiona Apple’s cover on The Affair TV series in 2019 gave new life to the song. Her version has more bite than the original. It was covered by many other artists including Jennifer Warnes in 1992 and Mandy Moore in 2003. Sally Barker performed it on The Voice in 2014. It’s a well-loved classic throughout the UK, especially in Scotland where The Waterboys originated.
