Some of the big companies that sell food, in stores replaced the staff with self serve machines and a lot of people lost their jobs. The part time and full time jobs kept the families going and it was mostly women that worked on the check outs. They when they worked on the jobs would help people to pack the shopping, help with old people, people that could not see very well, people in wheel chairs, lift the food bags into the customers trolly if they could not lift in their self and yes actually talk to the customers.
