It was back breaking Arleen. I think I read it raises the canal by 200 feet in 2 1/2 miles. I wasn’t feeling it that day. I ended up with a chest infection. All good now though. Have a lovely Sunday ♥️

Hi Guys, three attempts to moor up doesn't seem that big a problem. Until it's me trying to moor up. :-) same goes for the byewashes. They don't appear to be too difficult until I am trying to steer past them into a lock. :-) I am still adapting to life on the water and our narrow boat. At 16:15, that could possibly be a Tern flying over. I used to work over by Top Lock and would see them diving for fish in a morning on the towpath along that section of lochs.

Oh. Will have to have a re look. There are some incredible birds along the canal. We used the Merlin app to hear a common grasshopper warbler. Never heard of it before but it did sound just like a grasshopper. Hope you guys are good. ♥️

Happy Saturday! 😊 I really can't imagine facing that many locks solo without volunteers or friendly helpers. Saul would have had a time of it on his own. 🥰 Well, the weather could have been better for Crick. When it was nice it seemed very nice but the rain was incredible. A deluge. It's a good thing Dexter wasn't there because you would have had to deal with his muddy feet. 🌧 I'm sure everyone had a great time anyway. It's the only thing you can do under the circumstances! Lots of familiar faces in the videos I've seen so far and some lovely boats as well. I loved the color on The Snug. I hope Paul's eye is continuing to improve. ❤ Take care. ❤

Happy Saturday Dorothy. I really didn’t want to do that flight as I was feeling shocking. Thankfully, we had an amazing group of friends to help. I think Saul was very appreciative, it is a nightmare for solo boaters. It was a mixed bag at Crick and you just didn’t know what to wear for the best. We thought it was the kindest thing leaving Dexter with his grandparents. He would have struggled. There were some incredible boats this year. Paul’s eye is slowly improving and has an appointment to check on his eye this month. Look after yourself and take care ♥️

Thanks Norman. We love her. Initially, we seemed to be using a lot of diesel, which defeats the object of an electric boat. We have since had some remedial work done and she is performing much better. It is difficult to compare both boats as we didn’t cook with electric on the last boat and all our appliances were 12V. We also have an additional freezer on board. But she is going well now. Thanks for following our adventures. Have a lovely week ♥️

Hello Paul, Anthony and Dexter-Dog. That’s great news that Dexter is eating again and seems to have perked up. I’m sorry that Anthony has a cold, which can’t be nice. Anthony’s one-liner (bit of banter) to Paul made me smile “Every Day is a Bright Sunny Day” In the context of the conversation it was funny. What a day you all had navigating the Wigan Locks. I never realised Wigan was so high above sea level. I often visited Wigan (many years ago). Anthony made an interesting comment about the lenght of the boat should you ever get another new one. This made me think, Are there any other things that you both would change about the boat had you had your time again? Would you consider discussing that on one of your Live Shows. What a day going up all those locks with Saul (on his boat) and 4 wonderful friends acting as crew. What a great job everyone did. Those locks must be a nightmare for a single boater. Regarding the bow rope in the water, it was nicely spotted by Anthony. I was worried with Paul walking on the gunnels for the full length of the boat and in a lock. Are you not able to walk thru the boat from the stern to the bow? When Anthony said Paul and Dexter went for a toilet break together, I was thinking of Paul squatting next to Dexter on the grass. I’m warped at times!!!!! A fantastic cruise day. I really enjoyed the Vlog. Thank you very much. All the best. Spoolbox.

I wondered why you got a 60’er as doesn’t that only just fit into some of the locks? When we were researching it (pre Covid) it suggested 57/58’ due to some of the locks, I THINK it was only in the north, south has bigger locks. That’s from memory a few years ago so I stand to be corrected. How exhausting, everyone will sleep well tonight especially the ladies, I’m afraid I’d have waited until the volunteers were working, that many locks really is a lot of work, but you know that better than me. Imagine if it started to bucket down on about lock 12. This was a brilliant vlog thanks heaps guys. Hope your eye is improving more and more each day and hope Dex is well, sweet darling. Love to the three of you and now a well earned drink. 💕

We used to have a 57’ boat and it is a go anywhere size. As live aboards, the extra room is great but we, given the time again, would probably go back to 57/58’. They definitely got a good nights sleep. It would have been better with the volunteers but to be honest, the number of friends we had was probably more help. Yeah, we were thankful the rain held off. Paul’s eye is slowly improving. My cold is all better now. Dexter really is a beautiful boy. Have a lovely weekend ❤️

Hi guys, you mentioned you would maybe go for a 58ft long boat if you had your time again. Why not larger, why not 70ft for the extra space? Just curious as hopefully looking to get a boat in the next year or so.

Hey Rob. The extra space with a bigger boat would be amazing, but the restrictions on the canals would be greater. We have found with our 60’ boat that we have struggled in some locks and a 57-58’ boat is pretty much go anywhere boat. Hope you have a good week and good luck with your boat search ♥️
