Me too...I have a small rescue herd..I'm retired...I prefer them to people...I hate what America is doing to these animals...its barbaric...its about cattle rights...maybe a rethink is needed. I can't watch this as the beaurea of land management has broken previous promises to set aside land...ie reduces more and more of the land to allow grazing....its sick.

Ten years ago, my sister, nephew and I visited our aunt in AZ. We went to the Grand Canyon and when leaving we were able to see a small herd of horses running across the landscape. What a fitting sight.

Just Wow !!!! Those horses are beautiful. We got a little horse from a guy that saves them from going to be killed 🤨 he had only had a rope thing on his head. We had a friend that picked him up to train him. Awesome guy, he flat out knows what he’s doing. That little horse was so good. The boys were little when we got the horse, he let them little kids do everything with him.

Can’t agree with “horse owners usually know this.“ I see too many misshapen and unbalanced feet around nowadays due to poor shoeing. It is true that if you look at 50 mustangs their feet will all be worn off the same with the doso-palmer angle correct, the medial lateral correct, and the frog on the ground. Quality of farrier‘s over the years has declined. There are too many guys out there with shoeing tools but a lack of knowledge of both horses, and feet on horses. There are still good ones out there of course, but you see too many problems caused by poor shoeing that have to be “remedied” by adding clips, wedges or other devices on the shoe. There are of course practical applications for all those things, but it should not be caused by poor shoeing.

My favorite horseman is someone I can't even understand!: Martín Ochoteco, el Domador de Caballos, in Argentina. Even when available, the subtitles don't always make sense, and are distracting, so I've needed to watch multiple times, then... without sound. 😏 He hasn't posted anything to KZbin lately, but the older episodes are probably still available. That said, Ryan Rose is amazing, too. I imagine there's many good horse people around the globe (they love their 'unstructured' horse racing in Outer Mongolia, too. 😊

I was kid with parents in Montana seeing horses on hillside next to restaurant we were just leaving. Dad had horses at home so we were around horses all time. Locals were shocked we got horses to come too us across fencing. They were saying they were wild!

Master (they called me master) What an how are you doing that? This horse never been ridden? I showed her brush in my hand. I was just brushing other side where he had an itch. Great documentary. Credit to the program management and participants for their unselfish efforts. Human interaction with horses, is part of evolution. Its an ancient relationship, that has provided for the progress of human development. Horses are an intergral part of human existance.

I remember when I tried to purchase a horse during the Covid Quarantine, but was disappointed to see how expensive a decent horse costed. I decided to travel to North America with my brother to "purchase" a Mustang in the wild. We contacted some cowboys and got the job done. The biggest difficulty was shipping it back home. Great horse and It now has a beautiful foal! :)

@Awesomedogs47 Do some research, this is NOT the norm. The mustangs suffer great abuse from a lot of bad actors. The reason they remove them from the land has more to do with big cattle ranchers wanting the grazing land for their cattle. It's more about the money. While there may be a few people who genuinely care about the mustangs, most just view them as a money wasting nuisance.

The alternative is really simple. Get the ranchers livestock off the areas legally mandated for the horses. We shouldn't be subsidizing private land owners livestock feeding costs at the expense of wild horses and what is left of heritage /historical assets. There would be plenty of room then and also appoint a board of wild horse advocates to manage the ranges and adoptions if they deem them needed. Their habitat and natural predators do a pretty good job of keeping them in check. Mother Nature and our Creator seem to know what they are doing. Land legally mandated for our wild life should never be leased to private land owners to graze their animals. @@cshepard09

Gee, let's think about the mustangs that end up in the slaughterhouses. That's where some end up. We are not helping the mustangs but hurting them. Leave them wild, let nature handle their life. You are lining someone's pockets. The public will start realizing this is not good. When humans get involved it is money motivated. People educate yourself on this and all the other crap they do to these animals. What about the pregnant mares that are confined for their urine. Money all the way. Don't believe everything you see. There is so many bad actors and a lot of abuse going on. They put them on overcrowded dry lots where the weaker starve when they are all forced to fight for hay. Then some are bought by people looking to make a quick buck. As a prey animal being rounded up by a noisy helicopter, theysuffer trauma, that some times causes behavior issues that people aren't willing to work with & endup send them to auction where kill buyers snatch them up for shipment t to slaughter to Mexico for dog food.

I've always been in love with horses since i was a kid. There was a core memory with my grandfather when i rode a brown police horse. There were 2, it just happened that they walked past my grandpa house, and he asked the cop if i can ride it. The cop said yes, but the cop was the one who handle the rope. I live in area where there are not so many horses here. I've always in love with them, i've always want to have them. And there's also this good movie titled Spirit : Stallion of the Cimarron that is soooo good. It's my favorite movie because it's about horses. In the end i just want to have a piece of land for me to live with these horses and farm. Because farm life is the best life.

I'm not even going to watch this. Might like it. Might not. I had a mustang. His name was Bob. He was..as follows.He didn't like his head messed with. Every time I took him out, I had to "catch" him. I used to be a real cowboy on a real working ranch my parents were partners in. He was my favorite horse and I loved him so much. It broke my heart when I decided to find my own path outside of farm/ranching and couldn't bring him with me. I don't want to know what happened to him because I honestly think I was the only person who understood him. He was ground broke. Great roping horse. Could run through rock flats so fast you weren't sure if you were going to live and cut like a $20K well trained horse. He had a neck as thick as an oak, hooves of steel, stamina beyond extreme and a heart of gold. I just hope I get to ride him again in the afterlife. I was in my 20's then. I'm in my 50's now. I'm hoping he's waiting for me and forgive me for leaving him to lesser horsemen.

This is insane ... same thing going on in Australia. How about we removed track-homes , strip malls, defunct shopping centers, etc. ? Eagles and wild horses represent America, and besides, they deserve to roam freely, have families and be in their herd of choice: humans cause all the issues on this planet. These horses are descended from the best of the best Spanish horses from Spain. They were working cattle in Spain long before quarter horses became of age in America. All of the horses that came to America were recorded by their names,color, and gender. Take a listen to Ian Tyson's La Primera. Charlie Goodnight of the Goodnight Loving Trail was given a Mustang when his family arrived in Texas. That little Mustang taught him how to ride. They can pick up your heartbeat from just a few feet away. They know who you are. I was totaly devestated to learn that a rancher in Colorado was given a group of Mustangs for $10 a head. He turned around and sold them for slaughter for over $4,000. It made me sick. Thank God for wonderful horse Mustang trainers like Isidro Espinoza in northern Arizona who know how to train them.

Wild mustangs are one of the best symbols of the Western heritage. But when you put sentiment aside, they are actually a feral animal. They compete with other native animals, for forage, such as Mule Deer, Antelopes, etc. They also compete with cattle, sheep and domestic horses. Those range lands have a certain carrying capacity and it can’t be exceeded.

I was lucky to see a small heard running the hills in Nevada it was so cool! My Aunt also had one of these horses named Nevada, beautiful horse he was choclate brown with black hair and maybe a star on his forhead, its been so long ago. She gave him a great life and never did get to ride him! Atleast now they are rideable. Curious if they fix them? That is the key to population is to fix them so they can't over populate?! If you go thru all this, you misewell fix them at the same time, I'm sure all this costs tons of money, what millions?

I love animals, have always completely been in awe of horses, cows, dolphins, whales. . .I regret not going back to college to switch fields 20 years ago. I belong w/ the animals, not in an office.

Volunteering in some capacity may do your soul wonders. I have started volunteering at a cat shelter until I can adopt cats again next year...meanwhile, it's cleaning out litter boxes, wiping down all surfaces, and then petting the cats, the reward of it all.

So then I started house & pet sitting for friends, & then life brought changes again. But, my hope is that I will again to at least be able to keep my friends pets, if not finding another rescue to help. Animals are wonderful for our heart & souls. God's magnificent creations.

exactly they talk of all these domesticated horses which defeats the whole purpose of the wild horse, we have plenty of domesticated horses and they are destroying the wild horse, mostly for cattle. humans kill everything just a matter of time and there will be no more wild horses in America! just cattle to be slaughtered for burgers. Wild West my arse!!

Does freeze marking them hurt? Just 🧐 curious and is it less. Pain then branding? I live in Canada but am a city person so seeing a horse is better than celebrities lol

Freeze branding is painless for the horse. The horse just feels some coldness when the brand is applied, but it's no worse than grabbing a tray of ice cubes out of the freezer.

@@kristenweekleyandcatbelly680 It's much better for the horse, too, and lasts longer. The low temperature de-pigments the hair follicles, which makes them turn white. Then, that area of the body can be groomed and cleaned like any other part of the body, unlike a heat brand, because the hair follicles will continue to grow in white and won't re-pigment, unlike a heat brand that would scar and require medical attention.

I respectfully disagree with the assessment of the "millions of years ago" theory. I say theory, because that is what it is. It is NOT factual. I did really enjoy watching Steve, the "horse whisperer " and the prisoners working with the horses. Also, the vets assessment of the mustangs' legs and hooves, versus domestic horses. Great information. Thank you.
