I love you Grandad, I think about you every single day. You used to sing me this and you were the best man I've ever met. You made me into the man I am today x

Luke Kelly was a force!!! Absolute legend and greatly missed by all those who loved him and the music. RIP to The Dubliners 💚 🇮🇪 ☘️

Such a powerful voice. The Dubliners music isn’t the same without him.

How many times must he, and they, have sung this song? And yet, he still gives it everything, and at the final chorus goes 'One last time'. IMHO, and being half Irish myself, that's what makes Irish music so great. You can sing the songs a thousand times, and yet they still work the thousand and onth time.

It is originally the song of your rivals Burnley, whom you just copied off. The lyrics of the song are the clue , about being anything but a rover, and not to be a rover.

I've been a wild rover for many's the year And I've spent all me money on whiskey and beer But now I'm returning with gold in great store And I never will play the wild rover no more And it's no, nay, never No, nay never no more Will I play the wild rover No never no more I went to an alehouse I used to frequent I told the landlady my money was spent I ask her for credit, she answered me nay Such a custom as yours I can have any day And it's no, nay, never No, nay never no more Will I play the wild rover No never no more I brought from me pocket ten sovereigns bright And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight She said:'I have whiskeys and wines of the best And the words that you told me were only in jest' And it's no, nay, never No, nay never no more Will I play the wild rover No never no more I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son And when they've caressed me, as oft times before I never will play the wild rover no more And it's no, nay, never No, nay never no more Will I play the wild rover No never no more And it's no, nay, never No, nay never no more Will I play the wild rover No never no more

That must be the worst Irish pub in the world. Good music, but the atmosphere there is a bit flat. Maybe it’s ladies night at the Scottish pub down the street.
