They should allow you inside the mosque. Even in the biggest mosque in Indonesia, the Istiqlal , non moslem are allowed to enter and to appreciate the beauty of the mosque

it's not true at all. Mosques don't only function as a place of worship but also gathering for educational (Qur'an/Islam learning) purposes. The head of that Mosque should have never kicked you out. Please forgive his ignorance. Try other Mosques or the biggest mosques in South East Asia i.e. Istiqlal in Jakarta. They gladly inform you of anything you need to know about the mosque or Islam.
