There is a crazy game ending similar to this from May 2, 2009 between KC and Minnesota. Long story short, it involves RA Dickey pitching in extra innings, but being forced to only throw two-seam fastballs because Joe Mauer (who had been out the first month of the season with a back injury) had never caught him before. There are multiple walks, a hit batter, and eventually Dickey gets out of the inning when Tony Pena Jr grounds out on a one-handed swing----yes, a one-handed swing. There's a video clip still on KZbin of it. He had come in as a late inning defensive replacement, but injured himself and was forced to swing with one hand completely off the bat. It was the craziest thing ever.

The weirdest relief appearance I have witnessed live was Mauricio Llovera pitching for the Phillies on August 7th 2021. Facing the Mets at home, the Phillies cruised to a 5-0 lead with a relay effort by the pitching staff as it was one of Ranger Suarez's early appearances as a starter. Ranger (2.2 innings), J.D. Hammer (2.1), Hector Neris (2) and Jose Alvarado (1) have kept the Mets off the board so far. In the 9th inning the Phillies send in Mauricio Llovera against the 5-6-7 batters of the Mets, Michael Comforto, Jonathan Villar, and James McCann. All three proceed to smack homeruns to right field, and Llovera gets the hook in favor of Ian Kennedy after just 11 pitches. Thankfully Kennedy managed to only surrender a single and a walk the rest of the way, striking out Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis in succession to save the game.
