I wanted to do it ages ago, but it's been raining for last couple of weeks and I don't want to get my camera wet! But it was really nice this weekend, so I managed to get it done :-)

Hey Greg / Shredder, I love the turn your channel took. You seem very happy, and that's what counts. I got stung by nettles recently, and now I'm appreciating the lighter side of them. :)

Thanks, Steve. I'm really enjoying the new videos, it's a shame that not all of my older subscribers have enjoyed the change, but that was to be expected. But I'm having a great time with the new format and hopefully I'll build the audience back up. Thanks for still being here.

Looking forward to the series Shredder and good tip about the nettles I've been planting cottage plants like Lupins for the insects and I'm finding flowering Hebes are also good for your traditional garden as they attract bees and butterflies and they're evergreen Some nurseries and garden centres helpfully label plants that are good for bees and butterflies and that's what I look out for now

There's so much to learn about plants and flowers. It's quite a challenge.

Great. Starting out. You will find Chris Baines wildlife books really helpful and interesting. If you have somewhere to let our native ivy grow large it will be very useful to lots of insects butterflies and birds. Glad you're doing this, i'm enjoying watching.

I'll check out your recommendation. I liked Kate Bradbury's Wildlife Gardening book. I do have some ivy and vines growing in various places, I'm not sure whether it's native or not though, I'll need to try and identify them.
@vivianalyon37915 жыл бұрын
@@GregsWildlife The native ivy has all green leaves, it does'nt have variegated leaves, no cream coloured streaks on leaves. When large enough it has yellowy, green flowers, they then turn to black berries later on. Tadpoles in my garden pond are loving spinach. thanks for your help from last year as well.
@GregsWildlife5 жыл бұрын
I did an image search on my ivy and it looks like it is native common ivy. I also have black bryony growing as well. I'm loving learning about all the things!
@vivianalyon37915 жыл бұрын
@@GregsWildlife i cant find any information on which insects black bryony supports. Will do more research. it says the plant is posionous. Good you have native ivy.
@GregsWildlife5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about insects, but I believe birds will eat the berries in autumn. But, yes it is poisonous, apparently about 40 berries is a lethal dose for humans!

Get some Nasturtium seeds .. they grow really quick and well. May need a bit of trellis as they are climbing plants but Butterflies lay hundreds of eggs and when hatched the catapillars go wild for the leaves. This then attracts a lot of birds 👍🏻Nasturtium are self seeding too which means they will regrow every year.

Thanks for the advice! I'll look into that.

I am letting wild Poppy's and stinging nettles grow in parts of my garden,already have a pond for wild life/frogs. If we all do a small bit collectively it will make a big difference.

@GregsWildlife5 жыл бұрын
I do have a bird bath, I realised it was just out of shot when I was talking about the feeder. Also I do have a holly tree in the garden, but I do have my eye on a nice apple tree sapling that I want to plant. I just need to work out how to get it home in my car!
