Stormy had a strong, independent spirit. He was loved and encouraged by a really good Mom. I think Stuart was a great big brother....so loving and protective over his little brother. I believe Stuart was aware of Stormy's limitations. Thanks for sharing this video JW.

We had a puppa like that; made the decision to amputate his legs. He lived not just a long ten years; a good, pain free and well-loved 10+ years. If the same could have been done for #BraveHeartStormy but "ifs" don't help anyone. RIP Stormy.

I love the freedom that Stormy had in the trees and I can’t help but think that he may have made it had it not been for all the concrete he had to traverse. I saw several times that he was using his legs in some fashion and may have become stronger in that area had it not been for the abrasions caused by the concrete he was constantly dragging himself across. I realize we could “what if” the situation till the cows come home but I really thought he was going to survive. I really had to fight the strong urge to be angry at Stella thinking if she’d just carried Stormy over the concrete he wouldn’t have gotten the sores and could have overcome his handicap, but I know she had no way of knowing what that was doing to him and she really cared for him. Sigh...... Thank you for sharing his short story with us JW.🙏 Even though it had a sad ending it was a joy to watch him.

Poor lil guy was so cold but he had mom to keep him warm. Was amazing how he pushed up with his feet even though it was because they happened to be in the position. He appears to be getting weaker. Glad he did get something to eat even though he really didn't care for the food being fed to them. It was be hungry or eat. I think he was in pain. He might not have felt his feet but I'm sure he felt the sore on his hip and it's possible he felt pain further up his leg from his foot wound. Thank you for sharing his story. I know how painful it is for you to do.

Maybe he is not feeling well at this point. He was a little more clingy to mom and crying a lot. It also seemed like Stella was being more attentive to him, like she knows something is wrong. Poor baby 😞 he is such a sweetheart ❤️

He wore himself out trying so hard to live. Like others have said it does look like he's beginning to suffer, possibly from the cold and the wounds. Watching Stormy it's amazing how much you can learn to hate tarmac and concrete. No wonder he heads for the trees when he ought to be eating soya beans!

I am grateful to you for such a beautiful tribute to our stormy. I think k his family being seasons of the weather is cute. Stormy is an inspiration not just for animals but humans we as humans give up too easy watching these videos I’ve seen several monkeys with no arm or leg or some type of handicapped and they’re still happy and getting along

Animals are not affected by inspiration. They are not inspired, they are animals. Everything they do is instinctual or learned behavior. Speaking as if a monkey can be inspired by another monkey is insulting to human intelligence. An inspiration to humans? Perhaps, yes.

In addition, they reacted aggressively when the materials were taken away from them. Male bower birds create nests to entice tmates that are works of design. Each one is different, and the male fusses over the composition. If zou move one of the deecorations that he has placed around the nesthe will put it back in the same place. These are just two examples that show that animals have creative instincts and inspiration”.

They do share. Mothers literally eat sloppy so the baby can eat the droppings. Its her way of teaching. The droppings are clearly there to be eaten by the young and it happens in this video.

Stormy's Story is the story of every resilient living thing on earth. Despite every odds, and especially many humans desires to tried to get rid of creatures or humans with disabilities or illness, some claiming for their "own good" "avoid suffering", Stormy showed that was worth it stay alive & fight for his own survival. It's beautiful to watch this kind of stories, because should teach you the value of life doesn't depends in having so many material things but with the things you have and the time you have, you must do the best of it. Everything I see Stormy, I see a fighter, who enjoys his life no matter his obstacles. He has his family support, that is important in every society. Without their support the story would have been different. Nature sometimes seems cruel, but Nature always give a chance to enjoy something from life. It's sad that we as humans haven't evolve enough to feel empathy towards others, especially people with disabilities. COVID has shown a lot of people disregarding the life of many people like Stormy, and they rather watched them died than protected them. Again JW wonderful work with Stormy videos and other videos of Macaques monkeys in Honk Kong. Many blessings.

@JW My first thought on the 'almost' handstand was to shift the lower half of his body from behind to in front of him. I see his legs/feet are in front more often in this video. Normally rhesus are exceptional at caring not only for their own wounds but for those of family and troop members too and with the attention usually given to cleaning and debriding wounds that almost all seem to do well, added to their usually good ability to fight off infection and heal, why Stella is not seeming to tend to Stormy's wounds. She apparently grooms him and is an attentive mothers so it's hard to believe she has not noticed his buttocks and tail wounds as well as his feet. Maybe she is tending his tail and buttocks, since you note they are clean, but that's also an area he could self clean without a problem. It's obvious no one has tried to clean his feet and remove the dirt and dead skin, and it may be hard for him to tend to them, or if they are painful he could be protesting if they try and clean them. Motor paralysis does not always mean a lack of sensation or pain, although usually pain reception is diminished.

Stormy’s foot looks like it became gangrenous. Based on JW’s comment that Stormy died from complications stemming from his hip, I assume that there was no infection associated with his gangrenous toes. Hopefully the nerves to his feet were dead and not causing him any pain.

Once upon a time, far, far away. A baby boy was born in a kingdom called Golden hill. He was born sometime in spring, in the year 2021. He didn't know much about this world and he didn't know how hard his life was to be. All he knew was the love, warmth, and care, he got from his mommy. He was strong, healthy, and hairy. He was a monkey. His life changed in an instance, that was felt around the world. He didn't know we were watching, he didn't know we cared. He didn't know JW, but he must have been aware. Through the lens of JW's camera, is a story to be told. What must have been a nightmare, is how Stormy's life begins... to be continued.

End of November, JW has not revealed as of yet how. He has stated hip injury, malnutrition, and weakness may have been contributing factors. He is a couple months behind posting videos. So when he passed he did give us a warning. Those who cannot face his reality can choose not to continue to watch and the rest who want to know his story can.
