Richie is clearly the creative driving force, but the stew of collaboration with Sheehan and Portnoy change the Kotzen formula just enough to be something a little different than his solo albums. But the songs are like 90% match to Kotzen solo songs and much less % for Portnoy. A bit more for Sheehan (Mr. Big) but still far less than Kotzen solo songs.

Nicely put. There's a depth of craft in this music that makes it music for musicians. Maybe the compositions are pretty straightforward, and maybe the lyrics are lyrics rather than literature, but this is a tribute to the glorious 20th century artform that is rock music, and it is full of enjoyable reference and nuance because they have the musicianship to speak that language. Check "Stars" for a mashup of Alice in Chains vocals and Radiohead guitar. Says me.

It's interesting to hear the staggering difference between an American and European production. Where European bands employ very polished sound producers that impacts negatively the original idea of rock and it's derivates, this sound is a typical presentation of raw power of unfiltered production where compressions and other tricks are kept to a minimum, and it results in very lively sound. It's funny - it wasn't like that in the 70's. There was a difference in musical approach but the sound was pretty much loaded with the natural energy. It all started to change in early 80's when European rock/metal bands tried to separate themselves from overly aggressive punk and went onto a different trajectory. I myself like such results sometimes but in the end, I will always prefer the raw sounding records like this. The atmosphere it creates is cutting through to your heart and it resonates so much better with the listener. Very good track.
