Because he does what the others forget a lot while playing a standard straight rock beat : PLAY IT SIMPLY. (And I don't mean : play it like a newbie or what. Just keep it simple and let the others elevate the music, and take it higher when needed.)

The song kind of has an AC/DC vibe to it. 3 super talented musicians. I met Richie at a guitar clinic he did years ago. Great guy. And he sang along with doing a lot of playing. At that time I never knew how good a singer he was. He blew me away. Great guy, and a great band.

@badger519 No, if you go to a live gig, and are near the stage, a great band just creates this wall of sound, it's something to experience... No studio needed. The sound engineer does have to do the setup right of course / speakers / amps / levels.

I don't get the 350 dislikes.billy sheehan is one of the greatest bass players. Mike portnoy is incredible. Checkout the dream theater stuff plus liquid tension. Its a force to be reckoned with. Ya gotta have the head for it. Progresive rock is the greatest
