gief feels like he's been walking to work in the rain this last year and capcom finally got him a car. at first we were sour and bitter thinking surely capcom got us a pile of trash that will break down after a few miles and leave us stranded in the rain just like before... .. but no! we pop the hood and we see the engine. we hear it purr and it makes us smile. .. we don't know the gas mileage yet, we don't know the top speed, and we can't tell you the 0-60... but it runs well and while there's a slight squeak when you hit the breaks, it keeps us shielded from the rain and gets us to work and back with no real issues. I'm definitely happy. not elated or overjoyed or brimming with bliss or anything. just happy. getting to work on time feels nice but you still gotta work a bit now that you're here.

​@@maxwellscott-bz8bf I dunno - he basically said most returning Zangief players wouldn't explicitly notice the changes, but a lot of them are reductions to hurtboxes and shit that really isn't flashy or noticeable, but still is very significant in helping Zangief win trades he would otherwise have lost before. Charged hp doesn't get punished by jabbing the fingers, crouching hk doesn't get hit before the foot even comes out, etc. There are a bunch just raw number increases too. Again, a 10% damage buff doesn't really register when you're playing, but it absolutely helps you win rounds that come down to the wire, and the meter increases allow Gief to throw out more Super 2 reversals against zoners (Headbutt's super gauge increase literally doubled). I think he's right that most people won't explicitly notice the buffs - not like he got too many more combo routes or punish options - but I think (and hope) they're more like a 7 or 8/10 than a 5, in the end. Guess we'll see.

@@jman561000 this is the wildest comment i've seen a good while, luke's driveless punish counter damage was literally in the top 3 - 4 in the cast. even if you were to go out of your way to not use any drive, you're looking at 3k+ damage from just any stray punish counter and that's more damage than most characters get in an unscaled 1 bar/2 bar super from just landing any hit - ESPECIALLY on a punish counter.

Only a couple do more, and even they do so in the corner, not midscreen. Luke had the best meterless miscreen punish counter combo dmg in the game besides Marisa. A patch a year, it feels so good and refreshing to see a game get stretched to it's limits in its meta, like before online patches with fighting games re releasing a game with updated changes every few years. Regardless I like this new direction they are taking, 1 major balance patch a year and the will to hold off on panic patching and just letting the game cook is awesome. People will complain about how "stale" the game is one this sentiment for some reason never was as prominent from fighting games of decades ago that didn't have the luxury of online updates, yet quite of few are hailed as some of the greatest and the broken unbalanced nature is what gives them their prestige but not modern fighting games, modern ones have to always be balanced out and patched because now gamers especially boomers are so short minded they can't play videogames without needing constant updates less they get bored! But they never got bored with their old games from their generation without any patches and updates.. really makes you think, 1992 is my era btw

I play Chun-li and I'd say, as annoying as those changes are, she arguably got buffed. Having a functional 5.HP to safely chip the gauge on block goes a long way compared to what she had prior. I just hate that I have to throw away the combo route I spent 50+ hours to learn and confirm into, just to spend the same amount of hours erasing it from my muscle memory and learning another route that's harder and trickier to execute.

Slight correction: he already had a drink level 0 safejump with L DP in the corner, and technically if you used level 3 and immediately did 214MP. Also the buff showcased in 5:40 is not the 5HP, but the L DP being one frame faster, allowing you link it to combo after a full 5HP juggle if high enough, whereas before you would have to cancel at the first (technically second) hit, which is good because most of the damage is on the third hit. The actual most important buff imo is to 2MP. Having a viable medium starter really ups his everything. Just one example, it means punish counters now link into sweep or even 2HP if they are close enough for a near max damage combo.

I just think all the shotos are really good, fun, and unique to watch (I played Ken season one to wait for Akuma, but I have learned Luke and Ryu recently). Also, I started playing AKI pre patch to get away from shotos (and to copy broski) and she is pretty ridiculous. A lot of effort but with--now--a lot of payoff. This game is the best fighting game out right now and this is coming from an NRS/ArcSys/Tekken diehard.

Blankas ex air ball should be unsafe lol, it's still wild imo. If the character is dead from that, and I doubt it, but if he is then he never should have been anything. Crazy that that move had advantage. There's gotta be some kind of risk somewhere. Just as I don't think any characters were ever that bad in this game, I don't think anyone got killed with the nerfs. The game imo is even more balanced now. Very fun playing Ryu and jp with a sprinkling of manon (who I think is going to be stronger now than implied here. But still grappler troubles, of course Edit - I best a random gief would notice that range ahaha. Jesus. )

Gief was a huge winner this patch what are you smoking lmao Objectively Guile was moderately nerfed but from a nuanced view, characters like JP was nerfed who gatekept him, so he might be a winner. In general, I don't see the characters moving around the tier list more than 2-3 spots. It's most notable for the top / high tiers, but you never know. Maybe AKI and Ryu will dominate. Gief for as flawed as he is, got such crazy buffs to his drive meter chip, recovery and flat damage that in the right hands I can see him being an obnoxiously strong force. The guy can burn you out of you block his pressure. SPD punish for Tap parry even stronger now if they try to avoid blocking.

I'm a Guile main, and I can definitely say that I really enjoy fighting against Ryu. Even more now than in Season 1 (F Ken still, and F Akuma now with his frackin gimmicks). I feel that Guile is even more cripple and predictable than before, due to all those changes. He was intended to be the space control guy at mid range... Well that's certainly gone with the last Shooty of Season 1... It was already a Herculean labor to aproach and move effectively because of the constant need to camp behind charge, or reset to neutral to access his then decent command buttons. Now the 1 hit (none cancellable like others might I add) pokes you had to grind have gotten extra nerfed. He would've remained somewhat viable if Capcom had made his crouching light kicks cancellable to compensate by giving some variety to his possible mix ups once you could finally Einstein a way to get in close. All the oponents do now is move away, and ground tank to force you to advance against any natural instinct tied to the philosophy of the character, which is not one of Guile's strong attributes by any measure. You're now either gonna end up whiffing a defacto slow mo crouching medium poke, get out boxed silly with his mediocre (even Lilly outscraps)/limited (still)/scaled (now) jabs, or they will very easily read a Boom because you have to "STOP" coming forward and pitch a tent to fire one off... Oh well... Season 3 Capcom!

Ed actually got nerfed from the drive reversal change. He can't punish drive reversal with s.MP anymore. Best he can get without using meter is the s.LK target combo. It make me believe they actually forgot about him because other characters can still get big damage out from blocking drive reversal while Ed has to work for it.

​@@terlyonall versions of Spin Knuckle should have been terrible from the onset. In the history of Spin Knuckle, it had never had effective anti-projectile properties until SF6. Capcom simply gave it back its original properties. It was quite shocking that back in season 1, she could simply use it on reaction against fireballs, while Chun's Hazanshu wasn't only slow and unsafe on block, its projectile invincibility frames were so late that using it on reaction against projectiles was almost impossible.

havent finished the video yet but i swear if i see someone down play the Manon buffs ill hunt them down cause as a Manon main myself giving me a single plus frame not attached to DR is big af on top of that giving combo routing changes and slapping the cherry on top by having our lvl3 scale with medals

You are overselling the plus frame. bHP still has stingy forward hitbox and enough pushback on block that opponents are not heavily punished to mash jab after, unless in corner or deep meaties. Her bad matchups also didn't get easier, i.e. Guile, Juri and Chun.

@@Aggrofool yeah she’s a grappler a scaling grappler I don’t especially them to make her match up spread better. but they did do was up her damage potential on hit, give better corner carry for cheaper, give going for oki better, and something that most grapplers had that manon Lacked was a “sit down and hold this” button without it being attached to drive rush. I do NOT expect them make Manon good because of how polarizing people feel about this character BUT this if wasn’t NOTHING it’s big of course with the that is more rewarding and forgiving when you do get the hit and you do sit your opponent down

As a DJ main the damage reduction was completely warranted, but removing combo routes is a dick move. Make me work harder for the damage, sure, but dont remove options for doing damage.

DJ more than deserved it. For one thing, it was a shock that a gimmick character like him who has a small fanbase was suddenly given tools to make him a meta character. He had no reason getting that ridiculous DR speed and range. His job was to fill a roster slot, not be top tier character. Now, he's at least back to where he should have been, where everyone else is.

Ed just arrived so to say. He got many invincibles, he is the fastest striker in the game. What buffs do you think he needs? Serious question for your insight.

@@EAprima His invincible moves are slow and can be baited by meaty lights. Fastest striker ? You tell me how and with what. Fastest moves are 4f and his 4f have no range. Regarding the buffs I think he needs, I'd say more range on his jabs, less scaling on his combos and a better cross up cause this one has no hitbox whatsoever.

@@EAprima He has the slowest reversal dp, and I have no idea what you mean by fastest striker. His kicks are some of the slowest normals and his fastest button is an average 4 frame jab.
