Buffalo is a perfect example of why you never want to do the full rebuild. You start losing players before your team can mature. Add that no one wants ro come to a losing team in a small market. The jets picking up Neideryderr, nametsnikov, miller, demelo at the trade deadline from teams looking to rebuild has given us the depth to be a contender.

The Jets don't have depth. Let's be real. Simply by missing Samberg, the Jets blueline is in flux where they're reduced to experimenting with a third pair of Heinola and Stanley. Scheifle gets injured, and the answer is to put Namestnikov in as 1C. Until the Jets get some physicality in their top 2 lines and on the blue line, and until Chevy is willing to be ruthless to make hard, but necessary moves, the Jets won't be contenders. There's too much reliance on loyalty and friendships, and a resistance to simply make changes, like breaking up the first and third lines. And as for the Sabres, their issue is the fact that they didn't surround their young talent with enough veterans to support them during bad stretches. And it doesn't help when management runs guys out of town. Eichel had signed an extension to stay in Buffalo, and then tried to force him to get a surgery that would not be beneficial to his quality of life after hockey, which lead to him being traded. He would win a cup with Vegas the very next year. Sam Reinhart was traded away, and he went on to win a cup.

@@pomerlain8924 Eichel requested to be traded well before the injury. The injury just forced their hand. Horribly handled situation but I can at least understand the initial hesitancy. After that nope. And spot on with the veteran leadership but wanted to add one more word there too. Quality veteran leadership. With Ryan O’Reilly and Evander Kane both being examples of this issue here too. Where in O’Reilly’s first year in Buffalo, he drove right through a Tim Horton’s while drunk. And Mr. Gambler Kane is another problem as well. The problem with this, is both of these guys were the guys they brought in to lead their next franchise centre men, and judging by off ice behaviour… they weren’t it. Dahlin was handled slightly better but there have been rumours circulating around Buffalo with Eichel and his cocaine addiction, and he was captain for him in his first year in Buffalo. He was still surrounded by guys older than him that helped him adjust to the NHL. Every prospect after that has had other kids their age or slightly older to adjust to the NHL with.

There's no doubt that Cousins and Byram would be great. I don't think we have the trade chips. I guess Perfetti, Henoila, 2025 first. Still not enough to get both of them.

They'd have to throw in Ehlers or Pionk to sweeten that deal. And if that is what it takes, Chevy needs to be willing to do it. The Jets need to acquire guys that have term and who can actually move this team forward to take the next step. Not a rental who will sign elsewhere in the summer.

I mean you trade a first, Perfetti, heinola, and like a Pionk. And you get both, why not? Perfetti yes obviously he’s gonna be playmaking stud as he grows. But you gotta give to get. Heinola and Pionk won’t hurt too much when getting byram and giving up the first is something that was bound to happen. Getting cozens and byram makes this team incredible for now and the future, as much as I hate trading Perfetti.

The Jets need to stop getting rentals. They need to acquire players that can actually move this team forward come playoff time. The last trade deadline acquisition that actually made a difference was Stastny in 2018. We need to trade for somebody with term that actually shores up a weakness.

They're going to have to because they're not winning with those young players. They have all these youngsters, but not vets that can actually play with them and teach them. It's going to take dealing one or two of their young core away to get out of this spiral and get a direction.

Bowen Byram is not the guy. Would be very poor roster building to spend big assets on another small, offensive defenseman who would be on our 3rd pair LD. He won’t pair with JMo because he’s left shot and not good enough defensively.

Get Dahlin and Cozens for Perfetti, Heinola, Stanley and picks, prospects, etc... etc... Mortgage the future for the NOW. Just tell BUF that they can take any / all prospects have and picks the Jets have upcoming... maybe every pick from next year, etc... But, I still say the Jets need a RHD beast / top D to help Josh. Byram plays on the Right side, so that would be a very good option as well. Imagine him with Josh?

@@oozyalmond7079 Still the worst trade of all time lmao. Stanley is negative value. Appleton would go for like a 5th on his own. Gustafsson a 7th probably. So a negative asset, a 5th, a 7th, and a 4th for a top 4 defender who is still young and was a 4th overall pick. Even if the condition were met, that’s still the 32nd overall pick. This trade would get Kevyn Adams executed live at Keybank, while Cheveldayoff would get the keys to the city and a statue outside of CLC. They might even name the city after him if this happened.
