To be fair, the Edmonton Oilers were the same for a long period of time too. Devan Dubnyk became a Vezina-nominated goalie after leaving Edmonton. Jeff Petry was nominated for the Norris after leaving Edmonton. Hall won the Hart after leaving Edmonton. Justin Schultz became a steady top-4 after leaving the Oilers. Cam Talbot's worst years were with the Oilers, but a serviceable 1B goalie elsewhere. Ryan Strome hitting his strides after Edmonton. Anthony Stolarz as a good backup goalie after Edmonton. Dylan Holloway seemingly to be a good top-6 after the Oilers.

The Sabres are a couple years from having depth and are learning on the go this year. Although they are losing the games are relatively close and a tough year could lead to a great player in the draft, somebody with size and intensity. I say Carter Bear a great addition or Radom Mkrta to fill that gap

My main issue with the sabres, which has something to do with our coaching and players: We just can't put the puck in the net when it matters. Every shot is right at the goalies chest, only a few players are concerned with rebounds and tips which results in a lack of it. And we don't get dirty when the puck is in dangerous areas. I know we have strength and skill to get dirty, but we play too passively when you actually sit down and watch the team play.
@TomNemmer11 күн бұрын
I disagree. This team can’t even hit the goalie in the chest. They miss the entire net more than any team in the league!

Hockey fans know that your team can't trade away the guys who aren't talented. No other team wants them on their roster. Buffalo has no problem finding talent, in fact it's about all our GM's do well. Now it comes down to filling out the rest of the team (since not every player can be that star) Usually these guys are the players who don't make headlines but get to the playoffs with their hard work and dedication. They also often times score a key goal or make a great play. That is why teams like Tampa Bay were/are so good for so long. They always had the depth and the performance of that depth to keep winning. Let's look at why these players left Buffalo: ROR- cried in the press about not be happy with loosing (is anyone EVER happy about loosing?) Moved him while he was still worth something in return. In return we got some stinkers BUT we also got Tage Thompson. Who will end up in the HOF at some point in the future. And where is Ryan now? Eichel - became a cancer in the room, as well as demanding a risky surgical procedure. The teams best bet was to trade him, as he was not an asset but a liability. Also had a pretty good haul coming back for him. Ullmark - Shear dollars and cents, Buffalo didn't want to pay him the $5 + million dollars that Boston offered him. EVERYONE knew he was talented, but that was a bean counter decision. Mountour - was a trade and probably not a good one. Sabres may have needed to get more, but teams who are loosing sell off talent. That's what happens in Hockey. Reinhart - was a trade deal that has not yet returned but may be a good one. Devon Levi will be an NHL caliber goalie and a 1st. rounder as well. Not saying all these deals were any great work, but they are what you have to do sometimes in rebuilding a team to be competitive. Now the Sabres are the youngest team in the NHL, AGAIN. They need to balance out the scales and grab up some veteran talent to even things out.

…which is exactly what GMKA did this summer. Zucker has been great. McCleod shows well on FO’s. Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel have brought some grit to the L4. Is it enough? No. But, these were good moves, just not the big top 6 scorer fans are clamoring for.

Who would have thought that a single player wasn't the problem. People really thought getting rid of Eichel would solve their problems and don't bother to realize their problems go back further than Eichel has even been in the NHL 😂😂😂
@xrsroofingsolutionscanada21514 күн бұрын
Richelle being moved was needed. Eichel was struggling being a captain and nothing they provided him worked out. The return was also good in Thompson. Problem now is they need seen to be lacking a leadership group whom drags their team into battle and have a hold on the teammates and brings confidence even during losses.
@greg337708 күн бұрын
Kevyn Adams is part of the problem, they are way under the cap, they should have picked up some veteran locker room leadership decent hard nosed players, with some talent but that play with some grit and sandpaper. I'm sorry but Lindy Ruff doesn't show enough fire, I'm tired of the nice guy approach, I think you need a coach with some fire and brimstone to get these guys off their lazy a8s's !
@paullastnamehere329513 күн бұрын
Its bad management. The players they like, regardless of how good they are, get the fat contracts. They are not willing to spend the money on the really good players. As the team regresses and the good players get frustrated, the cycle continues. Tage Thompson getting a nice contract brought hope that things would change and then they bought out Skinners contract and gave Owen Power a ridiculous contract. The cycle continues 😮💨🙁

The management somehow always trades away good pieces. They get some chemistry and they immediately dismantle it. They have the absolute number 1 worst judgement in all of major sports, they are cursed.

Sadly, most of these guys were gone before the current GM even got hired... on top of that, Eichel was hurt early in Adams time. ROR was before Adams... Krueger was horrid and after he was fired Eichel went into a pout. I still call this the curse of the Murray.
@davenewman20099 күн бұрын
We scout well. Not just obvious guys like Eichel, Reinhart, etc. Joy see plenty of depth guys leave here and play long careers in meangful roles elsewhere. It's development, a losing culture, and a lack of accountability from the top down where this organization goes off the tracks. It's the easiest team in the league to work for. Until that changes we'll always be a bottom feeder.

Sorry but mostly Sabres fans are really naive. I say that as a fan myself. They are constantly coming up with rationalizations as to why the team stinks. The reality is they stink because of decisions made by the owner. It’s always top down. Owner decides the GM/coach, then they decide subsequent moves. Creates a revolving door of talent, staff, decision makers. Culture is losing.

This pure ineptitude, mediocrity, and tone deafness. I would say this is worse than the "New" Browns comeback in '99. There is no care, grit or responsibility anywhere on the "team". They're weak, fragile minded minor league players at their best. Too many rushed players out of Rochester only to blossom once they get the hell out of Buffalo. To put icing on the cake the arena lease is up in two years if they don't do anything major about it well...no more BUFFALO Sabres. This isn't Hockey Heaven anymore it's Hockey Hell and it will stay that way until drastic changes are made to the mindset, managerial position and possibly ownership control.
@bjarczyk13 күн бұрын
The lessons of the hell the Cleveland Browns went through is you have to stick to a plan. You can't keep changing coaches and GM's and giving up on rebuild after rebuild. The Sabres need to make some trades but the lesson is they need to stick to the plan. Why do Sabres fans act so shocked when former players become good and win cups? We haven't learned the key lessons.
